Is Tricor a statin?

I don't take it any more, I took myself off of it. My lipids are great. Anyway, my mother's doc put her on it for elevated triglycerides. (She does NOT do low carb.) She goes to great pains to exercise her brain for two hours each morning so as not to get cognitive decline with age but I just read an article that showcased a study reporting that statins increase the risk of Alzheimers.

Tricor is not a statin. It's a fibrate. It said so in the first sentence under the first heading in your link. A quick google for tricor statin (the link above), yielded a top link suggesting not using tricor with statins (ergo, it's not a statin). The second link contained, in the brief, the following text:

... he put him on Tricor (this is not a statin)...

I am trying to present this in a "teach a man to fish" kind of way instead of a "hey buddy, do your own legwork" kind of way, but it always seem to come out the wrong way. Sorry if your feelings are hurt. But if you can browse the web, you can google for near about anything with generally simply keyword searches.

You didn't hurt my feelings but I think you're out of line. I googled it and read three articles before I posted. Yes, I read that it said it is a fibrate. I have no idea what a fibrate is. For all I know, it's a statin. That didn't trigger me to search deeper for that. And your other statements are from your googling "tricor and statins," which I did not google. I googled "tricor."

I posted on this PP forum because I figured someone might know the answer. If you don't want to answer, just don't answer. You don't have to teach me how to do an internet search in that way. You could just say "Hey, I found it by googling 'tricor and statins.' Next time, I might do a better search. Then again, I might not. But I did google and I did read three articles.

Then again, I otherwise appreciate your post because I got the answer!
