I guess I'll start the weekly thread here - I beat you to it Shadow! :D
I'm just about to head home to do my TotalGym exercises. I've decided for several reasons to start alternating upper and lower body workouts for my first two days of exercise, then do both upper body and lower body on my third day for the week. This allows me to do the much quicker lower body stuff on Wed or Thurs when we have other things going on and not as much time.
So really hard upper body workout tonight.

Hi Mary, and welcome to the board again!! How do you like it so far?
I've always been curious about the TotalGym. I've seen only one in my life besides the one advertised on TV. At one time, I was very tempted to get one... maybe I should look around eBay again uh!
For now, it's the YMCA and since Billie and I are going together, it will be easier for both of us to stick with it.
This forum will have very interesting discussions in the future regarding the health benefits of resistance training.
Welcome again!

My weekly plan is 5 days of exercise, one of which is Slow Burn. There is a significant element of resistance-type work in the way I do yoga, too, but not to the intensity of Slow Burn. I know if it depended on my making it to a gym it would never happen, so I do the "at home" version. I'm not sure if my "workouts" are heavy duty enough to be in this forum, but I'm sure we'll start to see how things settle out soon enough.
Today I am doing 50 minutes of cardio and an ab bootcamp I do on cardio days.

:) I don't think that only 'heavy duty' workouts qualify to be discussed here. Although this forum is for those that are not new to exercising and would like to discuss exercise more in depth (remember, mainly health benefits), it is also for those who would like to go more into that as well or have more detailed discussions. Naturally, practice brings more knowledge and people may start using specific terminology, such as specific exercise names, reps, load, etc., when they talk about their workouts. Rather than being intimidating, this forum is design to educate people. There is nothing intimidating about exercise whereas there is quite a lot to learn to make sure that what we do help us in our goals as oppose to harm us in the process.
For example, there is evidence of the benefits of Yoga in several aspects of health that can be discussed here, just as there is piling evidence of the benefits of resistance strength training for those with Typ 2 Diabetes. Together with discussing particular goals and ways of exercising, this forum also intends to discuss the information out there that can help with our education.

Janet - Yes, you belong here. Hopefully you will be able to put up some of the wonderfullly informative posts on yoga that you've done in the past!
Mary - Well gosh, I got sidetracked everywhere else before getting here :p .
But I'm here!
Mitra, I have no idea what yoga does. I have not had time to join the class at the Y because they are at night and I'm too busy in the evenings but if I could do it at home, I would like to see if there could be benefits to my RSD.
Are there some really good resources. I see alot of DVD's but am reluctant to purchase them with out knowing if they are any good.

Hi Gabe! It's good to be back. I can't wait to read some of your scientific posts again. That's what I've always loved about the board - I could get info on the science behind this WOE from people who really know what they're talking about!
I LOVE my TotalGym. I needed something to motivate me, that I would enjoy, and I wanted to do resistance training. But I've never been good with free weights, and other gym machines I've tried didn't click. A friend had a TG, so I tried it out, and I thought it would work. It does take some getting used to, because if you aren't balanced on the board right, you can hurt yourself, but I like that too, because it forces me to really concentrate on my form.
I actually spent the big bucks to buy one of the higher end models. I figured if this was going to be my exercise of choice, I might as well splurge! :D It has more accessories, so you can do more exercises. There are over 100 different exercises you can do, so it should keep me from getting bored for a while! I also like that you stretch during the exercises as well as working the muscles. There are days when I just lay on the board and let my weight stretch out my arms or legs.
I know what you mean about being able to stick to it. Having my hubby commit to doing this with me has really helped keep both of us motivated. From what Billie's been saying, you're really getting her in shape! ;)
If you're interested in what exercises you can do with the TG, here's a good reference: http://www.totalgym.com/learn/exercises.html

Say guys - do we want to have a weekly thread here to discuss the health issues and science of exercise, and to discuss general motivation, but also have a daily thread for posting our exercise? Or do we want to do the daily postings in the M&S Forum? I just need to know where to post my exercise! <grin>

Mary, thanks for the info and your insight on the TotalGym!
You can post your daily exercise here if you like. The M&S's area is more for people who have just started to do more physical activity and intensity is not yet an issue. Since you are more experienced and exercise is already incorporated into your life, you might want to post that here. In the past, for some reason, people who weren't too much into exercise felt intimidated by some posts. Our goal is that those who would like to start moving more but don't know exactly how or where to start would check the M&Ss area and get into it while they visit this forum from time to time as well to know more about the science behind exercise in relation to health benefits. Chances are that some people will get so enthusiastic about trying a more structured way of exercising and they will share their experience, questions and/or tips here too.
Of course, this forum is also appropriate to discuss the science behind exercise and its benefits on health in general. For example, we could start by discussing the first thread posted in this forum (Exercise is not optional!) and see what other discussions generate from it.
So, post away!:)

Sunday was legs, abs/core, chest, triceps.
Monday was cardio - high step, floor & 4-limbed.
The rest of my days are on the separate daily threads ;).
