Hey! I'm first this month! :D

Gym today. I did everything at half the usual pace, just to keep my muscles guessing. ;)

yay, Carol! I had a late day due to numerous meetings and stuff, but finally turned on the dvd for the "Bonus Abs!!!" video. My legs and mid section are no longer functional, I can't even turn over on my side! The good news is that I was able to do much more of this workout than I have yet this winter, but I still am hating these workouts!

oh yeah... I know my goals are probably different than some others' around here, but it's really encouraging to see everyone post and to have a place to post up about my workouts, it feels like a nice cozy family!

Haven't been doing enough exercise in a while... :o

I am playing a fair bit of pickleball (4-5 times a week) but need to start back at the proper resistance training. I have company arriving tomorrow staying til Sunday so realistically it won't happen before Monday. I'll have no excuses after that...

I have been consistantly doing my physical therapy at the gym, but it was starting to get too easy and only take 15min (less rest time in between), so last night I went and I did a good thorough workout...and OUCH! :o

But it. felt. great!

The slower you go, the less momentum, indeed ! I wasn't sure if you were initially doing a strength routine or an endurance routine. That would make a difference in the whether you needed to increase the weights or not, even given a tempo change :).

For example, if you're doing strength training and currently use 30# for bicep curls, I see keeping it the same - or going a bit lighter - for a slower count. But if you're doing endurance training and only using something like 20 or 24# then I can see needing to go heavier for a slower count. Make sense? Or am I blathering again ?

Make sense? Or am I blathering again ?Total sense, my friend. I'm going for strength rather than endurance. Whenever I put speed and weight together, it seems that I end up pulling something. I work on form and keep the weight manageable at the speed I'm using. Is that too conservative? If I have extra strength left, I put on a few more reps.

Woke up with a sore throat, turned into an almost full cold. Not bad enough to skip a workout, although it was TEMPTING!! I know I missed yesterday, so I couldn't miss today. I had a LONG day, driving around, I got measured for both my racing team kit and a bridesmaid dress, then I went to the horse farm I used to work at and I rode a pony :) I haven't ridden in over a month, so I rode a really easy and smooth guy, but he's very different than the big, fancy horse that I was leasing before. I'll still be sore tomorrow. After that, I went home and basically told myself that I was NOT going to workout, but that I was just putting on my bike clothes and "sitting" on my bike and doing the pedaling and cardio exercises I had to do today, but I wasn't going to workout. Somehow, this fooled my brain into believing I wasn't really going to workout, even though I was, and I did. I don't know if this tactic would work for anyone else, but I thought I'd share.

I had a bit of a scare last week (that I am not about to give details of on a public forum) so my exercise came to a rapid end. I am OK now, so onwards and upwards, at least with the resistance tube as I am now housebound because of the white frozen stuff which arrived on Saturday afternoon. As we knew it was coming DH and I walked down to the shops during the morning, and I felt quite good.

Gym today. Life got in the way last weekend, so my knees were starting to feel rickety again. All is better now, though. I can sometimes feel a little "squish" in one or the other, but no pain or residual soreness. I don't know if it's harmful or if it is a sign of lubrication. It only happens once in a long while.

Worked out again Saturday. Not too much. I am walking laps sideways. It's KILLING my butt and thighs. Wish I would have been doing this during all my PT, but then again, I might not have had the strength.

Felt a lot better today, not 100%. Got on the bike for an hour of slightly increased intensity, then later on did a core workout. @Claudette, you're not starting, you're continuing :) Sometimes it's good to take a break.

Today I had a really amazing day of working out. I got a lot accomplished for work, so at 2 I called my horseback riding instructor and she said to come over at 3. I filmed her ride a sale horse. It was COLD. My feet froze, so I did 30 squats and 20 reverse lunges in the tack room to try to thaw out before I rode Kapitaine. It didn't happen, but I rode him anyways for 30 min. When I got home, I had a little chicken (yum) and then got on my bike for 1 hour, working my cadence, while I read stuff for work. Then I did not 1, not 2, but 3 core workouts from my dvd!! 2 focused more on the legs, 1 was all abs. Holy cow. I've never been able to do that before, I felt a lot stronger! Cold is officially kicked!

So I'm cut loose.
I feel a bit limited as I shouldn't do anything that uses my back :jawDrop:...but I just need to try new things.

Hi Shadow!

I have been moving and shaking since Thursday -

Walked about 2 miles on Thursday, Friday I did stairs (and had no problem, except aching muscles)
Friday I also walked, but less than Thursday - severe muscle aches, in places I forgot I had muscles - I really haven't been moving.

Today I plan on skipping the walking, but will do an "episode" of Gilad.

Thank goodness it has warmed up slightly, and I managed to walk to the shops with DH. I was going nuts with being stuck indoors, and (for London) so flippin' cold, even indoors at the back of the house, that I have been hibernating upstairs. I'll hang my head in shame and admit that I haven't done any resistance :o

I love Gilad! I even have my granddaughter moving along with me.
What is great is I tivo his show and can play whenever I want and fast forward through commercials or even skip through parts and add parts of another.

Dh gave me a bicycle for Christmas, I've ridden that once - and couldn't move legs for 2 days after, also.

My son is trying to get me to join the gym, I'm thinking about it.

Anyway, today, my moving, due to very strong wind chill and low temps, has been limited to bending, lifting, stairs, and a little dumbbell work on my triceps.

That would be an awesome idea - if you'd actually go :slywink:. You need to be honest with yourself. If there's no way you'd go, save his money, and continue to work out at home. If you would go, however, it would be an awesome way to add variety - along with some great resistance opportunities . (I'm sure you know where MY vote is :p!)

Starting today, my workouts are going to be a lot more difficult as we ramp up towards racing season. I am worried that I won't be ready for my first race in April. I am worried that I didn't have a hard enough schedule last month.

Sam, let your coach do the worrying for you :). That's what they're there for ;). Surely you picked this coach because they were qualified - so you just get out there and exercise and it will all come together as it should come race season

well, I haven't been moving much, except the stairs every day

but, after work today I am planning on doing a Gilad with my granddaughter and then if she still has energy, maybe WiiFit -

she likes to laugh when I get on after her and it says uh-oh

we usually do either the running path or the bicycle path - how can I get on a real bicycle and ride after not doing so for close to 35 years, but I can't "ride" a bicycle on a video game??

Gym today, with HIIT. :)

I had an idea to go over my lower legs with the electric massager last night because they were so stiff. It worked, because I slept through the night. I can't figure out just why my muscles and tendons want to get into that state, but if I can loosen them up without chemicals, I'm going to do it!

Incidentally, Life is going to be in my way tomorrow, Shadow. I've been asked to work all day (for pay!). After that, a three hour music practice, followed by a church service and I won't have enough energy left to be gym fodder! I'll catch up on Thursday. :slywink:

The occasional Amy is going to the gym on an occasional basis :o

I went Saturday and Sunday, and hope to go tonight and tomorrow.
I'm still only doing about 15min on the eliptical all backwards (which is harder), then walking sideways around the lap track.

I haven't built up strength yet, but when I do, I will mix it up so that my muscles don't compensate because I'm doing the same thing each time.

Oh, I went on Friday and did my PT instead of the eliptical/walking.

Last night's workout was not that tough, this is my "rest" week (every 3rd week is a rest week I think?). I did 1.5 hours on the trainer including sprinting and varying time sustained reps of 75% of threshold. Today I stayed off the bike (even tho it was GORGEOUS outside) and did a 55 min. core and body strength workout. It was difficult to walk up the stairs after the workout, so I think it really worked.

Got a late start because I went on an errand with the Geezer, but I booted myself down to the gym after the boys had lunch, but before mine. I felt good, had a good workout and my knees seem happy today. I forgot to mention HIIT, too.

Sometimes the first few rotations on the stationary bike are pretty stiff, but not this time. It might be the absence of "weather", except we've got a storm approaching and that's usually the worse kind of weather. Go figure!

We the people worked out a rotation system. The aforementioned are carrying the load, Jan- Feb...we (aka slackards) are working up to the lowest rung of movers and shakers from the little known movers and shakey...to describe what happens when we re enter the weight lifting/pilates too suddenly, speaking for myself. I need to correct a blithe remark I made earlier... I think I said something ridiculous like, "Who doesn't have 10 min for pilates??" Newsflash.... It's not the 10 minutes, it's the pilates. Holy resistance, batman..it takes days to recover. I'm back with the wii fit crowd, for now..bring on the penguins.

Last night's bike ride in my living room was supposed to be an hour, but my coach had a 1.5 hour routine laid out for me in excel, so that's what I did. High resistance one leg drills and 6 min reps of moderate intensity. Today is yet another rest day, but it's kind of icky outside. WIsh I could go skiing instead of to school, but I have a meeting.

went walking with dh this morning (before coffee, no less ), but only went around once (about 1 1/2 miles).
Will be taking it easy the rest of the day.

The dog's name is Oi - pronounced Oy - joint pick of my daughter, who was into a type of ska music where they shout oi, oi, oi and my love of
Oy, an animal character (called a billybumbler - sort of like a talking racoony dog) in Stephen King's Dark Tower series.
Unfortunately, we had to put him to sleep this past year. He was 13.
We were just talking about him this morning, what a good boy he was. He would always try to exercise with me, although the kisses during crunches were a little much:D

I love that picture of him, too, and even though it actually took me aback to see it when I recently came back, I decided to keep it, at least for now.
