Well, I'll help you out, Shadow. I've done my Tae Bo tape this morning, haven't decided if I'll follow this afternoon with upper or lower body resistance.

Sandy - You have just made me entire month :D!!!! And not just because of the workout ;)! You've been missed and it's awesome to see you back! Glad to see you're still rockin' at those workouts !

Thanks, Shadow. I did do my upper body routine this afternoon. Luckily it wasn't too hot yet. In fact it didn't get nearly as hot today as it has been.

Did Tae Bo this morning, and leg exercises this afternoon - in front of a fan! But I shouldn't complain, we're not anywhere near as hot as some have it.

I did some serious scrubbing today. It took at least an hour and I kept my abs tight when I had to crouch. I know that's more activity than exercise, but it's gonna hurt tomorrow!

Great job, Sandy :D!!! I actually have a fan in my exercise room that stays there year round - you just never know ;).

But I shouldn't complain, we're not anywhere near as hot as some have it.
I'm with ya on that - but that doesn't mean we have to enjoy the heat we DO have :p :slywink:! We just should whine openly, I guess !

And you're peeking out, because you dropped one of your free weights behind the recliner and want to make certain it's still safe to continue lifting weights, right?

Ok, I think I have your back. I have my balance board cued up for penguin balance and the bow flex, on the lightest weight available to concentrate on my form. I'll check in, when I'm finished. Sometimes, I used to do a lap for Karole, so, maybe she won't notice if I do it for you....

I went to the gym today. I go to the Y and man was it annoying having to fight through the parental crowd waiting for their kids to get bussed back.

I did 30min on the treadmill, then did arm weights, ab crunches, and the ab/adductor machines. Not a lot of the last three, but I'm warming into it again.

Had a lazy day yesterday. I did a few leg exercises that don't require any equipment - just work against the weight of my legs. I did those while in the kitchen waiting for things to cook. Also did a few "Laplace in place" thingies (from the 6 Week Cure book).

So back on track this morning. Have already done Tae Bo plus upper body resistance.

Shadow, dear, I'm in painterly mode with a half-done project tonight. I'm making a rational decision to cancel tomorrow's appointments to work on the yards of trim (that's my job :p). If I don't get to the gym, I'll make it on Tuesday and that's a promise.

I feel so much better since I started resistance again! Tight abs and better posture!

Hmmm - I think simply hunkering over and painting is going to make you pretty stiff :suspicious:. You may not have the time or inclination to hit the gym, but I think a good round of stretching will be do when it's all said and done ;).

If I don't get to the gym, I'll make it on Tuesday and that's a promise.
I'm holding you to it! I'd rather you hit the gym when you have the time - not when your mind is home finishing the trim work, anyway . Of course, I say that with the intention of you only missing ONE day to do the work!

Sorry guys, Arthiritis hit hard here with winter. On Celebrex now, seems to be helping, Can't take more Fish oil than I already do, Poop Issues lol :p.

So.... I just did 1 mile. My goal is to get back to 5 miles by the end of the month.

I think there will be considerable stretching, but not the good kind. :suspicious: But it's gonna look so fresh and pretty!

Ginger, it's good to see you again! :) So sorry about the rough winter. I have touchy knees myself and I do more leg presses at the gym than squats. At least it's not full body weight!

Great report, Needle :D! Hopefully the heat hasn't gotten too horrendous .....
I found it extremely hard to cope with. Couldn't sleep properly and didn't feel like eating much either. Still, it has gone for now, thank goodness.

Yesterday there was a decent breeze and so I walked down to the shops again with DH. Wasn't very happy by the time we got back, but hey, I did it :) And today is the start of another try at 5 days in a row, with upper body done at around 2.30 because The Problem reappeared this morning, and I had to wait until it went out.

Well, somewhat distracted by the rioting and looting that has flared up here over the past few days, I didn't get to thinking of doing my squats until mid afternoon, only to have The Problem arrive home with DH hot on his heels. (We could both see and smell smoke from some of the fires on Monday evening). I was relieved to see them as folks were being sent home from businesses so they could get home before anything kicked off again last evening. The men were not so pleased as they had been due to go to football, but the match was postponed so they had to settle for an evening at home with me :D

This morning I have done the squats from Tuesday and upper body for today. So I'm on track, just that one element got delayed.

Okay, so over the weekend I got some upper body work: Saturday (shopping) and Sunday (dinner and a movie) just getting in and out of the car. (Hey, my physical therapist told me that transferring does work my triceps and core muscles).

Monday - Wednesday - Well, I felt like cr**; didn't work out at all.

Feel much better this morning (even though I woke up at 3:00 a.m.) so have already done Tae Bo. Have some office work I need to do now, so will follow up with more a bit later.

Havent managed to much, am doing 1 mile before leaving home for the day.
Mum is in big hospital. Not great, Not life threating, but, really not great.

I have been controlling my stress by walking mutiple times around the hospital and it's gardens. It's a major city hospital, but, I really do not know how much walking I'm doing.

Mostly cross and stewing whilst I walk, so I do not appear angry when with Mum.

Things are not going particularly well and could be handled much better.

I didn't have much time between work and movie (saw advanced screening of Fright Night) so I didn't even change clothes. But I walked on the treadmill. It was better than nothing.

Tonight I have much more time so I'm going home to have supper and change, then going in for a REAL workout (I hope :o)

Gym this morning! Mostly resistance with very mild cardio to avoid annoying my knees. I did 30 leg presses and ten minutes on the arc trainer with normal elevation and they seem to be okay with that. My pulse only got up to 115 though. Upper body was normal weights.

Mum, still in big city hospital, Infeccious disease people have taken charge of her case. This should have never happened. 8 yrs ago she was put on antibiotics for the rest of her life, post surgury very very BAD infection. well some idiot took her off said pills, and the result is a huge painfull 16x9x8 abcess of something bad enough to get IDP involved. and she has been this bad since about April, her new carer isn't too good at her job. So.... I'm still very angry.

I've taken to punching a pillow in a chair as hard as I possibily can. Stomping with the walk program steps. and singing [badly very badly oy] to any loud thumpy music I can find on You tube.etc

OK, as an experiment, I was trying to do my squats over a low chair, so I wouldn't fall backwards like I do whenever I try.

Get low enough to touch my bum to the chair and up again, and when my legs fail [as they often do] I land on the chair. No harm no fowl lol

just checking in...i hurt myself almost 2 weeks ago. ED visit last Tues. long story short(er) suspected a blood clot..so far, no. ARghh, I can't wait until I'm back in the shape that I don't do stupid things (or recover more gracefully, when I do.) It's difficult to describe, but i missed a step and caught it with my shin. At this moment if I stand more than a few minutes, it throbs (yeah I know, don't do that ;) ) Recheck tomorrow. I know, I'm probably the only person in the world that has an injury from singing in a chorus- most, ok some, of the other times I've done something brilliant (like that) I was in work out clothes.

Martha - You are in an elite group of people that can injure themselves no matter how routine the situation ;). I say "elite" because I am in the group too, ya know :p! Just think of the benefits of sitting on the edge of the chair with the feet propped up while doing bicep curls or overhead triceps extensions :D. Not only does sitting to lift upper body weights concentrate more on the muscle being worked (when you stand to lift you use your core - hopefully! - and other muscles to assist, ya know) but you'll also work on your sense of balance - and pull the core back into play trying to not roll off the chair. To really test the balance and core, you can always sit on a stability/swiss ball with your feet propped up  What a winning combo, huh  ?

I will do bench press, and incline flies, concentration and hammer curls with dumb bells, tricep kick backs and dips, shoulder press and shoulder raises with dumb bells. Upper back pull downs and rows. I am working on assisted pull ups with the FULL assist. Some day when I am 90 maybe I can do an unassisted one.

Ammy, there is a book called PAIN FREE by Pete Egoscue. There are floor e-cises where you lay on the floor and have your legs on a table or chair or anything that keeps them at a 90* angle for an hour or more. One leg at a time and then two legs at a time. It works better than a chiropractor for me. Check it out of library or get it on amazon. I have given 6 or 7 away and they are never returned. They always stop back pain.

That in and of itself could be a great graphic for a t-shirt.

That's the part about having too much time (now,) to sit around and do the analysis. It looks like there isn't a clear cut winner.
So...kinda like low carb...choose what works for you.
In my case, it looks much better after the antibiotic, and/ or 3 more days of healing. It isn't bright red anymore the surface temp has decreased, so I'm ready to start my own science experiment, 1 more time. Now to Amazon to find that ball:lol:

Hi, Shadow and all,
Sorry to be MIA, but am still hanging in there.

Regarding my back injury, I saw a spinal rehab MD expert this week.
Wow, wish I had gone to her earlier.
She really relieved my fears about my spinal damage, gave me a new exericse program which is working and new topical pain prepreation that has helped me more than any meds.

Of, course, she mentioned the ligher I was, the better it was for my back.
She suggested counting calories!
Hope to be a few lbs lighter when I see her next month, then I can tell her about PP.

Since Wednesday, have been doing the RX exercises.
Also, Callentics for abd/waist/ tush, 30 minutes each day.

I might try the treadclimber again, but only very slow.
I don't want to go backwards .

Needlewoman, sorry to hear about your phlebitis. Take care and rest.

I think they've always said it can be done in increments. After all, 1 mile at a time (or any fraction of the total) is always better than none :). The time you want to focus on doing it all together (or in bigger portions) is when you're wanting to improve your endurance, IMHO.

Oh dear - I wouldn't think it feeling heavy and on fire is good regardless of where the sensation is . If the feeling persists, I do think you should have it checked out (and just so you know, I avoid doctors until the bitter end of something but sometimes an ounce of prevention....)

Thanks for the good wishes, ladies.

The good thing about having had the problem before is that I catch it early and know what to do. I'm nearly back to normal now but I'm still keeping my leg up as much as possible to be sure.

Talked to my PT...he said NO exercise until the pain is under control :D:D:D:D:D

But I had to get in one more day a the gym so I went and held some handweights for a few reps and walked sideways a few times...I was maybe there six minutes.
And man-o-man did I hurt last night and this morning.

I'm sorry you had to learn the lesson to begin with, but I'm glad you were wise enough to remember ;). Some of us have to "learn" several times before we really "get" it :o !

I think you're a bit too happy about that, Amy :suspicious:!!!!

Having been there-done that, I would say you might not want to repeat said session ;).....

Gym this morning. Started with the bicycle again, since last time it took the annoying kink out of my glutes. (who knew?;)) Didn't get to the arc trainer because of time constraints, but I did all the lifting and leg presses.

hey, wait?? oh no, we belong to that other club the one with the cool, "betcha never heard of anyone getting injured doing this," t shirt.
SHEESH I was afraid I was gonna have to club hop, or make a different t shirt.
Quick post, I'm so excited, I've (re) discovered compression stockings and they are great. I feel like I can do anything. ok...yes I'm still not off restriction but I feel like I could get back into my old routine, very fast. Here's hoping for the lift of ban of anything not work related...Tuesday.

Well, just 'cause it worked once doesn't say it'll work twice ...

Well done :D! I'd rather see that than all cardio - but I'm sure that's no big surprise :p!

It's a temporary thing, my dear, and if you keep acting so giddy over the release from exercise, I might take it back :p  !

Nah - I'm far too set in my ways (and have too many years of klutz-dom under my belt) to change now :p!

Great thinking :thumbups:!

As long as you're just feeling that way and not doing it .
