I posted this at the end of my last thread, but I think it may have gotten lost there...
Well, I have a bit more to report. My weight is now down to between 155 and 160 (I'd like to get down to between 140 and 145; so I'm pleased). I went back on the Zocor (20mg) and after a month went back to the doctor. He wanted to do another blood test; so I asked for the Lipoprotein Fractionation test from Quest. He had some issues with Quest's insurance coverage; so I used another lab that sent it off to Liposcience. I'm hoping it is the same test. Anyway, I just got the results back from the doctor and I'm a bit confused.
My fasting lipid profile numbers have changed:
Cholesterol: 178 (was 382)
Triglycerides: 68 (was 72)
HDL: 57 (was 67)
LDL: 107 (was 247)
To that report he added this comment:
"LPL [his handwriting is bad, perhaps it is LDL] particle number 1151 which is in the low-moderate range. I would suggest adjusting the Simvastatin [generic Zocor] dose." He enclosed a new script for Zocor 40mg.
I'm not sure that this makes sense. Did I get the correct information out of the test? Is it the right test? Does it only give one number?
My ratios seem good now, and I'd rather not up my Zocor dosage.
Any comments would be appreciated.
Thanks--
Al
