Seek freedom and become captive of your desires. Seek discipline and find your liberty.

Frank Herbert
Good morning and Happy Monday! How was your weekend? Is your quest for discipline changing the way you follow this woe? Has our September theme made a difference?

Where shall we go in October?

Gosh! I'm asking a lot of questions today! ;)

I'm having my coffee and on my way to visit friends today.

I have to admit I haven't really been adhering to the discipline challenge... :o In the past few days though I've been getting gearing up to start afresh in October. In the next few days I will be continuing to prepare; rereading some of my books, getting some cooked meat into the freezer, going over my fitday journal from earlier on etc, etc. I will also start weighing portions more consistently and gradually bringing them back down to a more reasonable size. Portion size has always been an issue for me. I need to regain control over that.

My DS2 received her copy of PPLP and apparently is burning through it. We've been e-mailing almost daily and on the phone a couple times a week. She's jumping right in, I'm very pleased to report.

I'm starting a couple of new paintings today, I haven't painted in months. :( I cleaned out the studio yesterday and prepared my canvasses so I'm ready to go!

Is time just FLYING BY for anyone else?

My food is planned. I'm on target. I have noticed since I had the skin reduction that if i gain weight, it's around my ribcage instead of my waist and hips. I started measuring and will use that to help remind me to stay closer to ON plan. I have been allowing more carbs, at a maintenance level, and haven't gained, but I should really lose more weight before I move to maintenance levels. It's just that sometimes I am cheap and feel I need/want to eat what's in the house (I am a born and bread coupon cutting, budget calculating, penny-picking-up cheapskate!). For example, my SIL gave us a box of "just add water" wild rice soup from Tastfully Simple. so this weekend I made it and ate it. Cream based rice soup, probably not on plan :o but it was cheap and easy.

I am on plan today though...and food is planned for the week.

Fighting a weird headache today. It actually showed up Friday night while sleeping. I think it might be related to the weather change because normally advil and sleep are enough to knock it out.

Hi, ya'll,

Carol, I don't know where to go in Oct, I just know I want to keep on posting with the wonderful support.
In answer to your earlier question, I have another 1.5 years to complete my MSN as I am working full time and taking one class in school at a time.

Ammy, go good to "see" ya. You are an inspspiration. Every time I see your post, I say to myself, "I can do this".

Jilly 27, you can do it! Isn't it great to have a new month to start over?

Goose, hi!

Today, I feel horrible. Sinus headache since yesterday, post nasal drip, sore throat, stuffy nose; no fever, chills, so it is probably viral. I went to work, but drank lots of fluid. I am at home resting tonight.

On plan, today:
B- eggs, hood low carb milk, coffee.
L-veggies, atkins shake, kroger lc yogurt
D-canned chicken soup, few club crackers, sf ocean spray diet cranberry juice.

Pro: 60, Carb: 45.

Have a great day, all.

I have to admit I haven't really been adhering to the discipline challenge... :o In the past few days though I've been getting gearing up to start afresh in October. So...do you want to make the October challenge something like PLANNING? That is a practical way to start on discipline anyway. Exciting about your sister(s).

My food is planned. I'm on target. Good for you, Amy! Measuring sounds like it would be a simple, effective way to keep track.

Would a PLANNING challenge help you? So sorry to hear you're ill, Claudette! We've got that going around here too.

Planning/preparation is certainly an important component of keeping up this WOE, at least for me it is. I could see planning being a good October challenge. Focus our discussions/reporting on what we will be doing in the next few days as opposed to reporting what we've done? That sort of thing?

What do the rest of you think?

Stayed on plan yesterday. I had to fight eating before bed which is not something I've had to fight for awhile, but I had 2 sf popsicles and all was well.

I have a plan today.
We're going to the opera tonight (won tickets) and have to be there by 6pm so I have to squeeze in supper. I haven't had a burger in awhile so that's what I have planned. simple and easy. My breakfast and lunch are the same as usual.

Planning would be good for me! I'm so bad at planning my food. Doing my hypnosis as often as I can, and something's shifting in my head - weight is down slightly this morning, and I was mostly on plan today - bacon and mushrooms for breakfast, salmon salad for lunch, with honey dressing (small amount), few cherry toms and lots of lettuce (I threw all the new potatoes in the bin - it was preboxed from the canteen), 85g cashew nuts for a snack (that's the bad planning, not great on the carbs but better than a Twix:-) and cheesy chicken breast for dinner, with two squares of 85% chocolate (actually six, but it's Green and Black's and they divide up the bars differently:-) Let's see what tomorrow brings - I'm off to Leeds for a meeting and have not planned any food at all. Will attempt to make the very best choices I can.

Opera last night: Orpheus and Eurydice. Eurydice dies and Orpheus is so forelorn that Cupid allows him to enter hell to get her, but he can't look at or explain to her why he can't look at her until they are out of hell. She is confused and chooses to stay in hell rather than go with a husband who won't look or touch her. He is distracted/distraut and turns to look at her and she "dies" again. Cupid sees how sad he is and decides to bring her back to life.
It has now become my favorite opera I've ever seen. Great music, fantastic singing, and beautiful dancing...but nothing extremely long and drawn out like can happen at operas.
OH...and Orpheus, the lead, is a contra-tenor, which means he sings so high that it sounds like a woman singing. His backup was a woman as they sound so similar. That was very different!

I have a plan again today.
I didn't have a burger last night, i had a caesar salad and a sandwich. It wasn't a lot of bread, but what was there was so good I couldn't put it aside :o.

Amy, I haven't seen that one. I'll have to look up the music.

Goose, I wouldn't make you walk. How about just a small glossy poster with you smiling as you hold up your food plan? :D

Another carpenter in the house today. This one's my uncle. He's a great carpenter, but as the Geezer has discovered, it's HIS way or the highway! Help!

I made a big pot of vegetable beef soup for supper. It can cook all afternoon and needs minimal side dishes. I love it!

In spite of a busy and long day I am roasting some beef and ham as we "speak". I need to have more stuff available for lunches and snacks. I like to roast up various meats, slice them up and put it into baggies in the freezer so I can take out a few days worth at a time. :)

I ate that. And more. And more.

The stress of being a poster boy was too much to handle :P

Took a half day to burn some vacation time. I never prepare myself for the dangers of access to diet soda that I haven't paid for. Lunch was pizza toppings (not bad so far). Then I had 5 cans of diet soda. The mind boggles.

Dinner I had the above and the remains of some cheesy hot dogs that weren't going to last more than a couple days. Then while not hungry I had a piece of chocolate, then peanut butter on a tortilla, then a grilled cheese tortilla.

Off the rails. Higher hopes for the rest of the week.

Ooops! That's why NEAN is a good idea. Once I rationalize something a little too edgy, I'm likely to be zooming down the slide. Happens frequently enough to keep me humble! :o:p

Too many leftovers lately. Dinner I ended up switching to a brat and a couple hot dogs.

Friday

S - Beef jerky
D - Meatsa pizza
Pizza is awesome. I need to track down the link to the youtube video so I can share it. Basically it's a pizza casserole but it's very tasty (the guy even put brats in it, mind blown).

Hi, y'all,

Finally feeling better. Saw the doc yesterday, said it was "viral" (I thought so, but wanted a 2nd opinion). Still treating symtomatically.

Carol, yes, planing challenge would be great.
Ammy, ooh, I have never seen that opera, but I do love opera. Have fun camping this weekend.
Eleanor, hope you did allright in Leeds.
Hi, Goose, Monty, Jilly27!

I have cooked homemade soups all week, like you said, Carol, they can cook low and slow and help a sore throat.

For the last 2 days, the scale has had me in a new set of numbers!
I am holding my breath, but if it is down again tomarrow, I willl gladly post the results

Well, back to work again,

Have a great Friday, all.

Okay, guys, the next thread will start the PLANNING program! :) You can take it as far as you need to. Posting quantities would be good if you're having trouble in that direction. Protein and carb counts if it would help you stabilize a runaway program.

Monty, you are such a clever detective! :jawDrop: If you would behave, I wouldn't have to do stuff like that.

Claudette, glad you're feeling better.

Spruce, nice recovery from the tortilla fest, ;) Thanks for the link.

Amy, you'll be gone before you read this, but have fun camping.

Carol, you seem to be coping with retirement pretty well. :D

Monty, nice planning!

I still have plenty of ham and a little roast beef left, and tonight I picked up a rotisserie chicken so lunches are done for the next few days. Tomorrow night DH is out for dinner so that's a good opportunity for me to have liver. (he hates it) I have a large bag of liver, from grass fed beef, that my friend with the little farm down the road gave me. They don't like liver so she gave about 15 lbs of it to me. Score! I think I'll take pork chops out for dinner Sunday.

So today being October 1st I am getting back to being more careful with my intake and recording in fitday again.

Prot: 124g ECC: 18g Fat: 107g

Saturday (as it's planned at the moment);

Prot: 144g ECC: 24g Fat: 98g

Have a good weekend everyone. (I have to work tomorrow :()

Weekend is going pretty well. Especially for a weekend!

I did start Slow Burn today. Several of the exercises I need to adjust the weights to hit muscle failure within the 60-90 second time frame (extra weight on some, less on others).

I like it so far. I need to get more comfortable with it so I can focus more on technique and pushing myself farther instead of getting distracted by the counting (both metronome beats & reps).

I didn't have a metronome but found an online one (http://www.metronomeonline.com/) so it keeps a nice beat per second rhythm for me. The book suggests doing it once a week minimum but leaves open the option of doing it more often to build muscle faster or early on to get more comfortable going through all the exercises. I'll probably try it again Thursday.

Even with things not being ideal (weights) I can still feel it quite a bit in my upper body.

Hi, y'all,

Busy weekend, but on plan.

:DStill in the new set of numbers, however, overdid the salt yesterday,so the scale was up 2.5 lbs today . I know how to correct that!

Carol, glad you are coping with retirement.
Eleanor, get to feeling better..
Monty, Goose, hang in there.
Jilly27, glad you are back on track!

planned:
L-ham steak, mixed veggies w/ cheese, sf jello
S-oz. low salt cheese
D-pre-birthday dinner (mine is tomarrow):) but tonight is better to celebrate as all are working late tomarrow.
Mexican food restaurant, my favorite.

Have a great day, all.
