Anyone out there :suspicious:???????

Yep, I'm out here! :p
I was away last week doing a course for work, so didn't drop by the forums. I didn't do a workout while I was gone, "the gym" at my hotel was smaller than my walk-in closet! (I could have done a body weight routine in my room of course, but there wasn't much spare time and I didn't feel like it )
I did get to the gym for an upper body w/o Friday after work (I was away Mon-Thur) and a 40 mile bike ride yesterday. This morning I'm meeting DS to do lower body and will ride this afternoon with DH.
I will be going to work pretty early everyday next week but will try to ride in at least twice. I'm borrowing a bike to try out next week, a carbon frame road bike, so I want to spend some time on it. I will be using it for my charity ride in three weeks so I need to get accustomed to it. (It belongs to the owner of the bike shop I deal with) I will probably be getting a new one for myself, but it won't be here in time for the charity ride, so I'll borrow instead.
Tomorrow night is K&B.

Yes, I'm here! I spent several hours excavating closets and packing up donations to give us more room. Not sure that counts, but the bags were heavy!
Also moved furniture. The carpenter is coming in tomorrow to extend the teeny closet in our master bedroom. Think "old house" and you'll understand why it's such a great thing! :D
Gym tomorrow.

I'm here, but not much exercise happening, I'm afraid. We have visitors, scaffolding with missing builders, computers that keep falling over, and wiring that keeps tripping the circuit breakers. And my back is getting distinctly sulky from too much standing. I think I need another holiday.

I am a firm believer that a week or "rest" can be quite rejuvenating for those who lift heavy or exercise strenuously .

Good heavens !!!!!!!!!!!! I'm sure you'll be THRILLED to get back to the "ho-hum" of daily exercise after all that  :p!
Hang in there, Mitra - hopefully it will all be over soon!

Hello! Had a weekend of walking a fair bit with the family - up a very steep hill to the common whilst visiting a relative on Saturday, and around (believe it or not) a deserted hoverport on Sunday picking blackberries - involving running after a two year old, steep hills and steps. Got up very early today to get to work (I live in Kent and work in Wales during the week, 4.5 hour journey), and felt so tired after work I decided not to go to the gym. I did however do lots of brisk walking all around large London stations, up lots of stairs, and lost a meeting room at work (huge building and I'm new) so I walked up and down a lot of flights of stairs looking for it. In heels no less!
Feeling a bit better now and will definitely go back to the gym tomorrow...

Yesterday morning at the gym went well but my bike ride ended up a bit short, the skies opened and we had no rain gear with us. (I don't mind being wet, but it was too dang cold to keep going)
I'm not sure what will happen with riding to work this week... I hadn't realized just how dark it is at 5:30am these days! We're losing light fast. The bike I'm borrowing probably won't have any lights on it so I may have to just ride in the evenings.

You haven't lost me yet :D Although it is not as bad as it was in July, I am still struggling with heat and humidity.
Anyway, I've walked to the shops and back this morning, and despite it being summer and me not exercising as much lately, it was a heck of a lot easier than it was at this time last year

Jilly, don't you hate it when the light goes? :frown: I had my car lights on this morning at seven, partly due to the fog coming in from the lake.
Shadow, I had a very nice workout yesterday. Upper body followed up by arc trainer at a good pace. Arthritis is active too, but that's probably because of the weather front on it's way in. ;)

Awesome on all that walking! I'm sure your feet didn't appreciate it, though ;). Maybe you should pack along some sneakers/tennis shoes/flat shoes for the future :p.

Today, I did two sets of squats. I think of them as deep-knee-bends usually. They go very smoothly. I was actually going to try a plank, but was distracted by mandolin practice and never got to it. :o

Shadow - it was only up and down the stairs at work in heels:-) I take my deck shoes for the commute and change at work:-)
Went to Curves last night. They do protein shake mix! But none on sale at the one I go to, I'll ask where I can get it. I burned apparently over 700 calories. And there's a new machine - does stuff to the core muscles and the waist. Very tough! But I felt it working:-) That should do the trick for my middle aged middle...
Shadow, dear one... a few days away & separation anxiety overtook me :D
have been working out daily using wts, bands, isometrics for resistance and bike and elliptical for some HIIT (some).
have reread Sisson's book to remind me of the premise and some specific activities to use- this is what I started to do back in June prior to "the cough" :( and the "company" :peeved::peeved:.
am taking DW to the airport for a flight to CT to visit her daughter for a few days- this will give me uninterupted time to gain some "primal" motivation :)

Well I was wimp Monday night and skipped K&B. (I was just too dang tired :o)
I did pick up that bike from the shop and rode about 20 miles last night. Nice bike, I'm much quicker on it than my commuter bike. I'm meeting DS after work to do an upper body workout in the park for a change of pace. (and she has no one to look after her son so the gym is out) Tonight is my last group ride. :( I will keep riding quite a bit anyway, of course. I definitely won't ride to work in the dark this week though, no lights on the bike I have right now.
Ciao,

It reminds me that I need to do some lute practice, but now you've used the mandolin excuse, I'm sure Shadow will be on the look out for excuses involving any kind of plucked strings, so I suppose I'll need to exercise as well . For now, keeping up with my visitors, and keeping everyone fed is about all I can manage. They're taking us out for lunch today, so there won't be too much cooking.

It isn't warm and humid now, in fact it is chilly enough to need a cardigan. I can't take advantage of it because I've injured myself :(
My leg is swollen again, but not in the usual place. I think I clobbered my shin when climbing into our camper van last week, and the swelling is from that. I'm currently nearly flat on my back with my legs propped up higher than the rest of me, and there is precious little that I can do like this without even thinking about exercise
Eleanor,
what kind of exercise are you doing at Curves, and what are these coloured spots? They sound intriguing.
Eleanor
08-27-2010, 02:08 PM
Well, Curves is really odd. I like it a lot, and I'm a bit evangelical about it at the moment:-) It's women only, for a start, and the three I know about are run by women. It's a franchise (three in my Mum's area are run by the same woman). It's a circuit. In the room (there's one large room) there are lots of things like weight machines arranged in a circle, alternating with a kind of board thing. What you do is, thirty seconds on each weight machine, and thirty seconds of recovery where you can do anything on the board from marching to jogging to star jumps (carefully so you don't hit the person on the weight machine next to you:-)
The weight machines aren't the kind where you can change the settings, but you can go faster and move them more. And there's an electronic card that you can put into each machine. You calibrate it with the help of one of the staff, and then it knows how hard you are working to start with, and it tells you to go faster if you're too slow. At the end of the workout you put it into a computer and it gives you a lovely picture of a body with spots, which are green if you worked hard enough, and amber if you were a bit slow, and red if you're very slow. It does make you work much harder.
There is a website where you can see all of the machines - www.curves.co.uk.

Claudette - How is that Zumba going this week :)?
I hope the others of you who came a time or two this week are simply out there exercising or enjoying the weekend. We've dwindled in size so the few of you who are left cannot disappear into oblivion or I'll be oh so lonely :crybaby: and oh so aggravated at all of you  !

Well I'm not that reliable for reporting lately, but as I'm sure you know Shadow, I am moving! Quite a bit. Working lots with doing the bosses job and riding lots on the borrowed bike. :D
Did two outside workouts with DS this week, and it was great to be outside! We did upper body on Wednesday and I didn't really think at the time that I had done enough, but was sore yesterday and today so it must have been better than I thought. Tonight we did an intense workout based on a Marksdailyapple routine (his new WOW, workout of the week) and it was tough!!! :jawDrop: Sprints, grok crawls, lunges etc. We, I ;), added some squats and butt stuff at the end, of course. Then we played tennis for 45 minutes. It was a really great outing with my sister.
Tomorrow is a 40 mile bike ride with some big hills in it.

I had a very good workout at the gym this morning. This week I messed up my lower back. The chiro worked it yesterday and I had some terrible spasms last night. Our muscle doctor friend came over to consult with the Geezer on another subject and I asked him if it was okay that I had worked out. He ended up treating my lower back on the living room floor! :D That's great, because his practice is so popular you can't get in on a whim.
