Happy August, everyone :). Hopefully we'll see a whole lot more M&S going on! Even better yet, maybe some of our MIAs will find their way "home" again ;).

wii- still the best for me, I'm getting stronger, I didn't work out much on my birthday but i didn't get home until after 10, yesterday and this morning did a combination of strength, yoga and balance/aerobic. It is funny how tired and great you can feel at the same time
Happy Belated Birthday, Martha :D!!!! I am so thrilled to hear you're getting stronger ! Nothing like that strength training, huh ? The workout combo sounds great - you are rocking, girl!

Howdy, Shadow! Yesterday, when I was scrubbing baseboards, I actually remembered to tuck in my tummy and squat. It wasn't exactly exercise, but I think it would rank as activity! :)

...not to try to best some of the better teacher's pets, but you were right.:D It was really such a fast change, when you are like me, (a stick in the mud, pretty inflexible and weak.) The muscles I used daily were strong, tight, the others, embarrassingly weak. I could walk or cycle pretty much as far as I needed to go ;). I know some reviewers speak about it isn't like a real trainer but, it keeps time well, and models the "form" and guesses on your lack there of, by how your weight distributes. It was less expensive than a year's membership at a gym and I don't have to be tied to a schedule, I can't keep. I think it will have great carryover for cycling in the fall, if we ever get fall.

Martha, we all start somewhere! :) Better a form of exercise that you'll do often rather than an expensive membership that doesn't work with your schedule. Like you, I love the feeling of being tired and knowing I just challenged myself.

Howdy, Shadow!
Hi, Carol :D!

Yesterday, when I was scrubbing baseboards, I actually remembered to tuck in my tummy and squat.
Well done, Grasshopper ! Makes it feel like a whole new exercise, doesn't it ?

It wasn't exactly exercise, but I think it would rank as activity! :)
It definitely counts !

...not to try to best some of the better teacher's pets, but you were right.
!!!!!! It's okay, Martha, I love it when people vie to be at the top of the pet list :D!

It was really such a fast change, when you are like me, (a stick in the mud, pretty inflexible and weak.) The muscles I used daily were strong, tight, the others, embarrassingly weak. I could walk or cycle pretty much as far as I needed to go ;).
Sadly, we all tend to be that way so you're definitely not alone :). That's why it is so utterly important to cross-train and not do the same exercises over and over and over again. Or even the same type of exercise, for that matter.

Forget the reviews - if it works for YOU, that's all that counts !!! You could pick the best exercise in the world or the best trainer or the best gym or the best whatever - but if you don't do it because it doesn't fit into your schedule, what good does it do? None! So you take what works for you and work it, girl :D! Well done!!!!!

I thought I'd drop and and say hello even though I'm still struggling with the weather, and not exercising yet. I did manage to lose a few lbs last week so I'm still mostly on message.

By the way, I hold you entirely responsible for the fact that I'm seriously contemplating bidding for a vintage treadle sewing machine, and I've even managed to sweet talk my husband into driving me right across the country and back to collect it if I get it :eek:

I'm here Dearest. no need to unleash the dogs to find me.
yesterday was an away game with a reunion of old friends (really old):( at the resort-like home of one of them. no formal workout but with hills, pool, river and 80' pier much movement was done.
Today UB/LB workout completed- have gone back to using the bands with isometrics for the change in routine you advocate.

I was going to say that last week was a bit of a bust for me exercise wise, but I think I needed a break. Sometimes you just need to rest a bit extra. I was hoping to get back at it today and ride to work then go to the gym on the way home, but I woke up with my back out. :( I left work early (as in after an hour) and will try to get in to see my massage therapist sometime today. It usually works itself out fairly quickly (a day or two), but a massage would certainly help it along.

My sister is away for 10 days so I'll be going to the gym on my own. I'll probably wait till Thursday as tomorrow night is biking.

How cool is that :D?!?!?!?! I think you'll have to do a LOT of squats and tubing work to deserve THAT reward  :p!

Absolutely! The rest is sometimes the most important part of the process ! I am thrilled you listened to your body !

I am so sorry to hear that, Jilly :(! Fingers crossed you can get it back to normal soon! Obviously it wasn't ready for you to jump back into the workout routine :p!

 I am wrestling with a real heart over head thing here. If I have to factor that into the price it probably isn't going to happen

I just don't know what to do. You can just bet that the same model will come to my attention in better condition straightaway if I were to get this one, and could well work out cheaper given the petrol and (even a budget) overnight stay somewhere. But this one looks so sad and in need of TLC that I want to rescue it . The decals at the front show quite a bit of wear, so someone has clearly used it a lot and probably loved it, maybe earned their living with it, and now it is abandoned  Truth be told I wish I'd never spotted it, but I've got a horrid feeling that we all know where this is going. Just think of the leg exercise treadling it :D:D

Needle- go for it- turn off the "mind gremlin" that tries to steal the excitement and fun.
Shadow my love- today is a 2 mile bike ride with some hiit in there. Guests want to hit the boardwalk and the big White Marlin Open is in action so much walking will be done.

Shadow, I had a nice workout today. My transverse abs are getting tighter from doing the squats, so I'm happy. I also noticed that the gym owner fixed the tension selector on the gliding rower, so I'll be back on that one this week.
Carol - Rather than hijack Eleanor's thread I thought I would copy this part into this thread. Hope you don't mind :). Anyway, I am beyond thrilled at those results :D :D :D!!!!!!!!!!!!! And just like Eleanor, I'm impressed you know what they are :p! As for that rower, it sounds like a great thing to be able to add it in again !

NW - I wholeheartedly agree with Monty - GO FOR IT !!!! I am one who lets the practical side win 99% of the time and it definitely takes some enjoyment and fun out of life. You saw this, it spoke to you, so it's karma :D!!!! And Monty and I will be cheering for you the whole way there and back!

I thought I would have today off work, rest the back a bit more, but ended up being called in. They were desperate so I put in a half day. I'm am feeling a bit better though so I think I will do my ride tonight. Riding generally doesn't bother my back so I think warming it up could do some good. And its only15 miles. If things are feeling ok tomorrow I'll go do a gentle upper body workout. :)

maybe some "pottering" in the backyard later
back up to 95-97 so the pottering will probably not happen

Dear One, just checkin in
not much M&S planned except to help the company pack up for Monday departure:D:):D. there is to be a weekend of parties for goodbyes to the company as well as an off to college party for grandson2.
Did I mention the company was leaving on Monday??

Our high pressure weather system over SE England began to break down a couple of days ago, and we have much more comfortable conditions, and RAIN. It has been really weird because apart from this little corner of the country it has been raining quite a lot, whereas we have fried into crisps (chips - only mentioned as an example, not for eating :D).

I decided that the treadle machine was too big a gamble, given the travel costs and the fact that it needed parts which I couldn't easily locate, but in the end the decision would have been out of my hands because she went for more than I would have bid. I just hope for love and not for spares . Being fickle I transferred my affection to a real beauty, hidden in cobwebs, that I spotted yesterday, and I just bought her for not much more than my limit for the other one. She is much closer to here (no overnighting needed) but in a really manky treadle, so I now need to look for a manky machine in a good cabinet

You will pleased to know, even if my knees wondered what the heck was going on, that I have begun to do my penance by doing 10 squats. I couldn't get as low as I was doing before, but I am sure that with practice ...

Not half as glad as me. I am behind with housework and a whole load of other stuff, let alone sewing. Oh, and exercise :D:D

'Manky' is something not in good condition and/or dirty. Generally not something you would want in your living space. In this case a beautiful machine, made in 1918, has been housed in a cabinet that looks more 1950s and left in the garage when someone moved out, so the whole thing is covered in cobwebs which the seller did not even clean off for the ebay photo  For added excitement the woodwork may have woodworm (borers?) which will definitely not be welcome in my living space. I will be sad to find a manky machine, but if that is what it takes to keep the price for a decent cabinet down, so be it. I can always try giving it a bit of TLC.

It is coming up for 7.00am as I am writing this, and it is raining some more (lovely sound :):) ) so I am not sure whether I will get to walk to the shops later with DH or not, but I am really looking forward to getting about more while it is comfortable.
