I've seen papers recommending an Omega-6 to Omega-3 ratio of anywhere from 10:1 to 1.5:1.

Today I saw a paper indicating that the maximum safe dose of omega 3 was .3g/kg. So what should I be taking? Half that? A third?

i guess that depends on how many omega-6 you are consuming, how much omega-3 you get in your diet already ...

personally, I supplement with about 1.5 tsp Carlson's fish oil + 2 fish oil caps (Trader Joe's) - but haven't done the math for what that totals out to either in EPA + DHA or total omega-3s as supplements.

I don't use vegetable oils but am not careful to get low omega-6 meat sources - I've never worked out my own avg omega-6 vs. omega-3 consumption.

I'm working up the nerve to eat a sardine.

I was working out my ratios on nutritiondata.com and my omega 3 is actually higher than omega 6 right now.

I was hoping to find a recommendation based on weight.

for myself, I wouldn't worry about absolutes then if my ratio is OK - I don't want to supplement into an over-omega-3 state - I don't want to overly suppress the inflammatory state when it is appropriate after all

but that's just me.

Wow! I'd be interested to know how you achieved that!

Just not using vegetable oils or eating processed food seems to do it.

Well I don't eat much processed food or vegetable oil apart from small amounts of olive oil, but what about meat, cheese, butter, cream, eggs etc - all of which have much more omega 6 than omega 3 - how much fish oil are you taking?

How long have you been doing this?

I've been using a tbsp of cod liver oil a day for months and months and I'm still over the top in terms of n6:n3.

are you talking bloodwork values? I think VikingDan was talking just daily food counts.

Yeah. I have no idea what my blood is like...other than reddish...

I'm still intrigued as to how you do it - would you care to post some typical menus?
