I started this diet a week ago and even though I only have about 10 pounds to lose I am restricting my diet to 30 carbs or less. I've already lost 6 pounds so I think I'm going to reach my goal weight soon.

My question is when I should switch over to phase two of the plan to avoid losing too much weight? What if I continue losing weight on phase two? Should I then switch over to the maintenance phase? I'm not sure how much time I need to stay in each phase?

Thanks so much!

Welcome:)

Six pounds is quite a lot in a week but don't worry about losing too much. You can start to increase your carbs a bit of maybe look at calories. Many of us would rarely get much above 30g of carbs and as far as I know no one has wasted away yet!;) Your weight loss will likely slow as you approach your ideal weight anyway.

A good idea would be to post a few of your menus - that way we can get a better idea of ways to help you.

And remember low carb is not just about weight loss. The health benefits of eating this way should be appreciated as well!

Hi,
Do give you an idea of what i have over the past 4 weeks maybe this would help? (hope so!:) 1st week-7lbs, 2nd week-1lb, 3 week-4lbs and 4th week-4lbs. As Malcolm has said (and he kindle reminded me also) its not just the lbs you are losing but also the health benefits that do come with it and the unwanted fat around your organs.(i am on the 6wc) I needed to remind myself as to 'WHY' i was doing this.
When i have finished the 6wc i will then post my menus and im sure there are many people that will help with my weight loss and my new healthy eating that will last a life time!!

Thank you for your comments and feedback! I appreciate it. I'm so excited to be on this diet as I've always known that eating carbs makes me want to eat even more. It's been an endless cycle so I'm feeling so hopeful.

Here's a sample menu of my day. If you have any insight to share I would appreciate it!!

Breakfast: (9)

Cheddar Cheese (1 c)
Dressing (1 c)
1/4 cup berries (2)

Dinner (11)

Looks like you're doing great! Your weight loss will slow as you approach your ideal weight. One of the things I'm looking forward to is adding in more fresh fruit as I transition to eating more carbs; I really don't miss the pastries, doughnuts, and other carby foods I used to eat.

My 2 cents would be your menu (although it doesn't contain quantities of things like cheese) looks pretty low calorie, I would add more fat before I added many more carbs. So throw that coffee creamer away ... ugh! ... use real cream! If you eat fish regularly (instead of meat where the right cuts come with good fats) - I've nothing against fish mind you, far from it, but perhaps cooked in butter, or a creamy sauce ... Nuts, well most of them, are also good low carb fare.
