Can anyone tell me how many calories are in 1g of fat, and how many in 1g of carbohydrate? (I know the PP plan does not use old-school calorie thinking-I just wanna know!)
Curious!

There are about 9 kcal in 1g of fat, and about 4 kcal in 1g carb.
While it's true that PP doesn't emphasise calories, and there seems to be a metabolic advantage in eating plenty of protein and keeping your carbs down, the Drs Eades do say that you won't lose weight unless you're eating fewer calories than you're using - they don't say that as long as you keep your carbs down you can eat until you're stuffed and still lose weight.

Spaceace, I don't think you can compare "apples to oranges" so to speak. It really depends on what you are eating.
For example, lets take apples and oranges :D
Here is the breakdown for an apple:
95%
Carbs
3%
Fats
2%
Protein
Here is the breakdown for an orange:
91%
Carbs
2%
Fats
7%
Protein
Every food we eat is different. You can eat one gram of pure sugar or you can eat one gram of beef, both maybe high in calories, but what the sugar does to your metabolism is quite different than what the beef would do.
This may not be the answer you are looking for, but you are right, we don't worry about calories, especially in the beginning stages.

Well you have confused me Billie!:p
I guess you are ignoring the water content for some reason ... but even then the mind boggles somewhat to see an orange that has 7% protein or either apples or oranges with significant amounts of fat.
The way I see it would be;
Apples - 14% carbs (of which 2 % is fibre) protein 0.3% fat 0.1% - the rest is water which has no calories!
Oranges - 10 - 12% carbs (of which 2 % is fibre) protein 1% fat 0.1% - the rest water.

I think Billie is ignoring water to express the macronutrients in percent of calories - e.g. 95% of calories from CHO, 3% of calories from PRO, 2% of calories from Fat -- this is a common way to look at foods
you are expressing in terms of overall weight - like 2% milk does :D

Malcom you Aussie you!!! Don't want to confuse, I was just saying you can't compare apples and oranges, and very difficult to compare a g of fat, a gram of carbs.
Thanks Lisa, I think I speak in tongues sometimes, glad you understood! :crybaby:
