I was on my way in to work in the morning, and the DJ started talking about a local fitness center and how it was having a summer membership special. 3 months for $120. I thought, well that's nice, but a bit expensive. Then they started talking about how the radio station was going to have a "half-price" sale on the memberships, and I thought "Hmmm... that's almost worth it." Then they had the owner get online and talk about the special and he said, "You guys said half-price, so I thought you were going to sell these for $60, but instead, you're selling them for $25!"

At that point I started listening really closely. Apparently the radio station has this half-price thing every Thursday, with a different local business participating each week. You have to go online to the radio's website at exactly 10am to purchase the special. They only had 50 of these fitness center memberships available, and they were all gone within 5 minutes, but I managed to get one of them!

I'm excited about this, because:
It includes a free body composition/fitness analysis every 3 months
You get a personalized training schedule where they discuss your goals and design a program for you to meet those goals
They offer a bunch of group classes at no extra cost so I can try pilates or yoga or go to a couple aerobics classes or power cycling classes or whatever for free
Since at the moment I don't have the extra weight bar stuff for my Total Gym, it's hard to get a good lower body workout and so for the summer I can use the fitness center to really push my lower body fitness to the next level
They might be able to give me some tips on how to increase my stamina more quickly despite my asthma
I found out over lunch that a friend also bought one of these, so I might actually have a workout partner if she and I can get our schedules to meshI don't know if I'll continue with the membership after the 3 months, since it's quite a bit more expensive at regular price, but at $25 I couldn't pass up this deal! Even if I don't get a lot of use out of it, I think it was worth it just for the body assessment stuff! :D

What a great deal...

Learn all you can in that 3 months then if you don't renew you can still use all the good stuff you learnt

Heehee. That's my plan, Ruth. :D It's cheap enough that I may even be able to afford a session or two with a personal trainer during that time. We'll see.

Girl Power! I love it when there are lots of other gals lifting weights in the weight room. And many are 50+. I've been working with a trainer for a few years now and I highly recommend working with one. I thought I would just try it a few times, but we became good friends and I realized that many times I just won't go to the gym. But if I have an appointment or am meeting a buddy, then I do go.

I also do a better and more focused workout at the gym than at home.

Have fun!

Cool! That's (obviously) an absolutely incredible deal, wish I'd been able to get that! It sounds like it's the same gym I go to (not the same location, but the same chain), from the usual price and your description, and I've been really happy with it.

Gyms can charge almost anything on a membership because they bank on the fact you'll hardly ever go.
