ARE YOU READY TO GET BACK TO THE BASICS?

Okay, close your eyes and take a deep breath. Think “simplify”. The objective is to get a solid program together.

Protein: Figure or re-figure your protein requirements and make sure you take in your minimum, at least.

Carbs: Keep your intake in the 30-40 ecc range, or at the level that works the best for you.

Additional helps to consider:

Aim for seven hours of sleep a night.
Increase your water consumption.
Start or add a new form of exercise.
Try removing grains or dairy from your diet.
Check out Dr. Mike's suggestions for supplements.
Take time each day to meditate.
Post your food plan in the daily challenge thread.
Go one step further and post an update at the end of the day!
Avoid complications.

If you haven’t got a clear idea of Protein Power, you can go to the Getting Started part of the forum, click on Protein Power at a Glance, PP Articles to Download, and open PP In a Nutshell. Better yet, read the book.

Feel free to ask questions!

Who's in?

Hi, Carol, I said since we will be gone most of October I wouldn't be able to do an October challenge but if I choose carefully I can do some things--just can't report in on a daily basis.

1. I will meditate each day.
2. I will eat only low carb foods while at the trailrides.
3. I will get at least 64 oz. water daily.

That will have to be my challenge for the month. I can do those no matter where I am. Then in November I can do something more .

I'm glad to have a challenge going again !!

I'm in. I'll do just the basic stuff though. I just bought another book and am reading it. I'm about to measure myself so I'll know how much protein I need. And I'll try my best to come everyday and write down what I eat.:DAs for the water, I have been trying to do that anyway, and for the most part am doing good there, but I will try to keep it up.

Shelia, the whole challenge is about basic protein and carbs. The rest of the list is made up of suggestions that might help with your personal program. No "must do's". :) We're starting from scratch. I'm really glad you're going to be with us!

I'm in. I haven't been posting in the daily challenge threads lately. (Of course, right now it's b-o-r-i-n-g! "Oh, and I had three protein shakes today.")

I'd really like to get into the meditation habit. There's nothing stopping me, I just don't seem to get it done. So maybe I'll challenge myself to do that at least several times a week, in addition to the basic PP eating.

I'm with you on the "boring"! ;) You can still count the protein and carbs while doing 6WC, in fact it might make it more interesting!

Carol,

I am going to make a concerted effort to post every day. I have almost got myself into a routine now.
It's been harder this time around to go to classes at night and get everything else done. I aim for 8 hours of sleep, so that makes it even more difficult.

Agnes, choose sleep over posting when necessary! The main thing is to count your protein and carbs. Although I love it when you're around more! :)

Hello all! I'm more than in! So in that the list mentioned in the first post is -nearly- the list I posted on my diary today. This sounds exciting.

I've already tackled figuring out the Vitamins, Minerals and Supplements necessary today and will try and work out where I can buy them from online tomorrow.
I must find my copy of PPL but I fear I have lent it a couple of months ago hence I am at a loss as to where else I can find the correct Protein calculation formulas instead. Any ideas?

I'll be there, Carol - although I hope you'll excuse a little absense beginning next Thursday through the weekend. Going on a short trip to Las Vegas....!:D

So in that the list mentioned in the first post is -nearly- the list I posted on my diary today. That's because you're a very well-educated lady, MisAma. Just remember the list is extracurricular. Protein and carbs are all that's required--for this month.

No problem, Kathee. Just plan on reporting when you get home. ;) That will help to keep you on track. Remember to save enough money to get back!

I like the idea of an October challenge. I'm pretty good about keeping track of my protein and carbs, use Fitday everyday, so I will have to focus on another aspect I think. I am having a problem with a lack of motivation to exercise, I need to sort that out. I will work on developing some new fitness goals. :)

Aww thank you very much!!! That made me blush.

Apparently not educated enough not to freak out looking at the numbers like I did this morning so here's one more to my list:

Only get on the Wii scales ONCE a week!:(:(

Things I already do:

Carbs within 30-40 range
8-ish hours of sleep
100-ish oz water
Some supplements (multivitamin, cod liver oil)
Post daily in challenge thread
Post update in challenge thread
Avoid complications (as best I can)

Things I don't currently do:

Exercise (yea yea, it's on my list)
Remove grains from diet
Other supplements (beyond two above)
Meditate
I should exercise but not sure I'm willing to make it my October challenge. I'm waiting to start until I get my blood work back and see what affect (if any) the cod liver oil had on my HDL).

Before my most recent trip up I was making good progress on the scales so I'm not planning on ditching grains quite yet. Probably experiment with it the next time I hit a stall.

I've taken some of the other supplements (even bought the Eades' pack once) and other than one of the B vitamins making my urine glow I noticed no difference. Can't afford it anymore anyway.

Meditate. This is the one I'm interested in. Anyone out there got some tips for a beginner?

I also need to recalcuate my protein numbers to make sure I'm hitting them though most days I'm pretty confident I am.

Anyone out there got some tips for a beginner?Goose, I'd guess there are as many forms of meditation as there are people on the planet, but here's a basic one: Sit in a comfortable chair in a quiet room and relax. Close your eyes and focus on your breathing. Breathe deeply and slowly, filling your lungs with your diaphragm and abdominal muscles. Your chest and shoulders don't need to move much at all. Ten minutes of that will make you a new man.

Thanks, Carol! Not to worry, I've never been much of a gambler. Now, shopping is another matter...;)

I am in for this! I will post a bit later as to what my personal challenge will look like.
