Hi everyone,

I briefly joined these forums over a year ago, and then as I do so often once I join groups kind of "forget" to log back in for days, weeks, months.... you get the idea. So no shock if you don't remember me - I only had a dozen or so posts.

So a tiny bit about me - I'm 43, female, with a number of chronic health problems, PCOS not being the least of them. (In fact, it's probably the root of all the others.) I've been heavy ever since I was a baby. Once upon a time, I got on a high protein/ low carb diet, was starting to make good progress and then for a variety of reasons, I fell off the proverbial wagon. Over time all the weight came back. I'm sure you've all heard this a thousand times.

Since then I've made a number of other attempts, but each one has lasted less time than the one before. One could say the wagon has gone so far off on the horizon at this point I can barely even see it, let alone get back on! (I'm sure you've all heard THIS a thousand times too.)

Well, as it happens I was recently diagnosed with a severe gluten allergy, roughly the same thing as Celiac disease. In fact, my sister that I live with and I both have the same problem and didn't know it for 40+ years. Little did we both realize that too was playing a HUGE part in all of my/ our health problems.

It now seems like a brilliant flash of the obvious  that I need to get back on a low carb lifestyle and stay there. When you literally can't eat pizza, doughnuts, bread, pasta, and all those wonderful bad things I crave, it does become a bit easier to avoid temptation. Little did I understand that when I did this years ago I was on the right track in many more ways than I even realized.

So I want to say hello again, that I'm "officially" rejoining the online community and asking in advance for encouragement and support because I really am a sugar and carb addict.

Thanks all!:)
Karen

Welcome back Karen!

I have a really good friend that had a similar experience to yours with the gluten allergy. She constantly struggled with her weight, bloating, digestion problems, fatigue.... Then found out she is allergic to wheat, cut out all wheat products and her health completely turned around! :D Dropped 50lbs without even trying to, no more digestion and bowel problems etc, etc.

Hopefully knowing about your allergy will provide a great motivator to stay on track. It seems to be easier to stick to if you have something other than just weight loss to focus on, at least it certainly is for me.

Hi Jilly,

Thank you! I wasn't really having digestive ills -- my symptoms were almost all neurological - bad headaches, exhaustion, tremors, muscle cramps, etc etc.

Wish I could say that cutting out all wheat products has made me drop weight as it seems to for a lot of people, but I have a whole OTHER set of issues too. But maybe conquering one set of issues will help with the other one.

Thank you for the welcome back.:) I will try to check in there as often as possible. I'm giving myself a few days to get back into the swing of things eating wise.

Hi Karen,

Welcome. I too, followed low carb a few years ago and fell off the wagon. But like you, I have recommitted myself and am moving forward. Congratulations on finding your way back! :)
