Hi all,
Just popping in to say hi. I did lowcarbing for a while about a year ago, then went off and gained back 15 of the 30 pounds I lost. During that time, I became a vegetarian so I thought that doing the South Beach Diet would be more veggie friendly, but I wasn't enjoying the plan at all - guess I prefer being able to eat regular dairy products and more good fats than grains and low fat stuff :p.
Anyway, when I mentioned on another board that I was doing my own vegetarian-style LC plan, someone suggested that it sounded a lot like PP. So I pulled out my PP books (during my time on LC I had done PP for a short while) and decided I wanted to try to stick to the protein levels the books suggest, since my carb levels are already around what the Intervention plan suggests. I also love the idea of sticking to more natural and less processed foods (although I can't give up my dairy and sweetener!) That's another thing with lowcarbing - I tend to eat more "natural," even making my own LC bread and other things, while on SBD I was eating a lot more processed "low fat" foods.
Anyway, I'm feeling wonderful and even though I had a very weird week plan-wise (a few days SBD, then a few days totally off any plan, then PP) I managed to lose a pound, which, after having been gaining 1/2 pound per week steadily for the past month on SBD, is nice to see. I don't have a lot left to lose (about 9 pounds to get back to where I was when I quit LCing) and I think I got off the LC lifestyle mainly because I was getting a lot of pressure from "loved ones" about how "unhealthy" I was eating (though I was eating mainly natural foods and not a lot of bad saturated fats at all). It's ironic that I did try a plan where I was eating a little grains (like 1-2 servings a day) and I just didn't enjoy it. So this time I not only want to lose the extra weight but I also want to make lowcarbing work for the rest of my life, though not at the 30-40 carb level I'm doing right now. I'll probably end up adding mainly fruit and legume (since as a vegetarian, they are a good source of protein for me) and very rarely some grains.
Anyway, sorry for the long intro! I'm happy to see there's a vegetarian PP section on this board since vegetarians get overlooked so much (i.e., the uninitiated seem to think that lowcarb = fatty meats all day )
