Well, this is the last full week of the month. How did you do? I think from the lack of participation here that there are quite a few that need to pick up the pace a bit for June !

I finished the 3 1/2 month rotation I was on so will embark on a new rotation in June - but a shorter one, this time ;). Not sure what it will be but I can guarantee *I* will be moving and shaking this week AND next month.

Will you????????

I need to up my exercise again - haven't done a video/tape/dvd all week

DH & I did walk already today and I did all that planting yesterday - doesn't sound like a work-out, but I am still sore

I did it!:D My recumbent bike, my old/new best friend. I've ridden the neighborhoods, re acquainted myself with the oh that's what I should have done stuff. (bike) Trail rides, here I come.

btw, decided to save my pass for the gym (zumba) until I'm going to be in town. I'm away in June about equal to the time I'm in normal life. Vegas, the 3rd through the 7th, Montreal heading southish, the 18th through the 28th. Being away, I am afraid that I will make a bad decision about whether it's right for me or not.

I've actually done pretty good for the month.
Just the past week that wasn't so hot ...
but this week I'm on fire :D

I've moved, I've shaked and right now I'm shook just about out.

DH & I went walking and went around three times, instead of 2 and in only a little more than the time we usually do 2 in :D:D

then, I went to my sis' and cleaned for an hour and a half - I'm talking the heavy duty, not sitting, no break kind, with multiple trips up and down the 3 flights to bring out garbage.

Talked her into throwing out 3 big recycling bags of books. :D

I did a couple of hours walking at a flea market today. I was surprised at how long my leg muscles held my knees together! I could feel them all working to pull me along. I'll feel it tomorrow, but I'm happy that I was walking without lurching!

Martha, will you be in hotels? If so, you can usually find a guest computer in the lobby or business area that will enable you to check in. We'll miss you! Good job on renewing your acquaintance with the recumbent bike!

Thanks for the reminder, I need to bring my login and passwords, It's like speed dial/auto dial and our collective memories for phone numbers. Before, if I didn't bring my laptop I looked at that blank log in screen like I had never seen one:o. The last several times I traveled, I had my trusty laptop. This time I'm planning to go light, er um, replace it with cameras, mini tripod and lens.

As for the recumbent, I've never "felt" the same using a gym recumbent as the real thing. Maybe the gym/fitness centers should call theirs "kinda like a bent, but not really," It's like saying the treadmill is just like taking a walk; at least they have the decency to call it by another noun;).

Just completed my Over 50 dvd (total body workout) for 45 big ones. Feels good to get back into the swing again---at least until the next trail ride! (But I do get in exercise there for sure besides riding there is always the "mucking out" type exercise to do and the storage area for the "muck" is quite a ways to push that wheel barrow. So its all good.

See you all later.

On Sunday I painted the soffets on the garage. BEST arm workout I've ever had.

I couldn't even LIFT my arm by the end.

3hrs of down, up, side to side...

OUCH!!

And, I had to climb the ladder, arm workout, down the ladder, move the ladder, climb the ladder, arm workout, down the ladder, move the ladder...you get the picture.

It was a GOOD workout!

Better than the bike ride I took on Saturday, and the crazy deep cleaning of the house I did on Sunday.

However, I can also tell you I have no restrictions. And honestly, the only thing that hurts is to walk. I can do lower body workouts, ride bike, do cardio, etc, and I'm fine for the most part. But trying to walk more than 10 steps and I am on fire and a hurting unit !

...and totally different from seeing the world from the back of a bent. I'm thrilled to ride b/c residual pain is on the right side of my back, but with minor seat adjustment it was great. Hoping that goes away pretty quickly too, but it's great to be able to jump back into move and shake.

Shadow so sorry about the hurting when walking. Do you know what caused the pain to start up?? I must have missed that part . Hope you get over it quickly. No fun not to be able to walk.

I got a new 10 Min. Solution DVD for an anniversary present. Thats what I wanted so DH got it for me today. It sculpts, tones and reshapes everything using figure 8 bands. I like the 10 min. segments with my big exercise ball so hopefully this will be as good. At least it will be different.

Thanks, Karole :)! The best they can figure is that when I added walking on to my usual routine, it was just too much. I was already doing my 5x a week then started walking 3 - 5 times a week (a 45 min hike on a gravel trail) in addition to that. Plus my walk to work everyday (which is another 30 - 35 minutes). Anyway.... just a bit of overkill, I think :o.

if you saw just how many books my sister has ... you would understand. We are both avid readers. I have a house with a basement and a den, have books in practically every room, from myself, my oldest ds & my dd. One or 2 of dh ;) . My sis has more - and in a 3 room apartment.

I used to joke that between us, we could open a bookstore - but it really isn't a joke - we actually could. She usually passes her books on, to me, to some other people, but accumulates them faster than she passes them on.
She had either read all the books we put into recycling or they were duplicates that someone passed on to her. Plus, by putting them in clear bags, if anyone passing wants one - they can help themselves.

AND, I got a lot of weight work carrying them downstairs :D

I love to read too, but I usually use the library for the fiction and buy non fiction that I want to read over and over. (Like PP , PPLP, GC,BC. I had to have those for sure. ) I still have too many books around as my book case is overflowing into my bedroom. How did that happen. Friends have given me several and also the kids.

Shadow, I think this past year is the first time in my life that I have stopped a routine of exercise and then was able to get myself right back into to it. I can't tell you how many times I have begun to exercise on a regular basis then got sick, took a vacation, or etc only to find I had no interest in starting back up once the interruption was over. (Sometimes it took many months to decide to start exercising again):eek:

You must be doing something right cuz now I find myself looking forward to restarting the routine once I return from a break. This is amazing to me. Thanks so much for helping me get back into the groove.:)

I tried out my new dvd with the resistance cords today. I did 10 min. upper body and 10 min. lower body. Good work out for a start. I was a little awkward trying to follow the moves but that is normal for me when I start something new like this. I think I will really like having another option to work out with. I'll have a nice little library before long of exercise dvd's.

Well, I finally asked the doc for an MRI because it was NOT getting better. So now that I actually have a diagnosis, I'm hoping to soon get some relief ;). The test result was that I have some osteoarthritis, bursitis in both hips, tendonitis in both hamstrings, and tendonitis in my gluteus minimus (don't know if that's both sides or just the right side). Anyway.... suffice it to say I ache all over . What really hurts when I try to walk is the hams and hip flexors. I start out pretty good but end up looking a lot like Quasimodo :o.

Anyway, now we're doing totally different therapy. I think what they were doing was on the wrong parts and the heat application was actually making things worse when it came to the tendonitis ....

I know just what you mean :o. Fortunately, I've trained myself to get rid of all the books I do not want to collect the whole series on. But sadly, there are a lot of authors I collect .... And some I no longer collect (they got too "dark" over time or too "depressing" to read) but I really enjoyed their earlier books. Then there's the ones I might like if I re-read them and give them another shot. And then.... Okay, maybe I haven't nipped the problem in the bud as much as I think I have !!!!

I used to go to the library too . Not sure why I quit but that was a much neater (and cheaper) way to go about my habit! Luckily I no longer buy new books but by from Powells. They may be used but there've been VERY few books I've ever noticed any "milage" on.

Agreed, Carol. Does it ever bother your knees?Yes and no. On the two occasions I tried my mountain bike, the pedaling was fine but the disembarking made me worry about what I'd have to do if I had a sudden stop and jumped off. Pain. I've yet to get it out this summer. I haven't been thinking about it with the gym working so well for me. With my leg muscles in killer shape I'd like to try it again.

How are your knees on hills?

Well, you always knew I was a mess, didn't you ;)? Actually, I requested the MRI results be sent to PT (what a concept, huh ) and it appears there's more wrong than I was told. Anyway... now the proctoring orthopod got involved so not only do I get the new PT, I get OT (Graveston method) thrown in for good measure.

Hi, Shadow. Hope you get better soon. And so glad you got the MRI done before the Pt you were doing made things worse !!
Thank you, Karole :)!

I went to my line dancing class tonight. An hour and 15 min. Had a lot of fun and laughs as most of us messed up a lot this evening --even the old timers were having problems. Must be in the water or something.
Oh but what fun :D! And hey, it's far more fun to mess up as a group than individually, right ? Way to go on combining fitness and fun !

Did 2 more segments of my new exercise dvd. I did 10 min. on buns and thighs and 10 min. on the abdomin. It is a good work out--challenging for me but not something impossible for a person my age. I think I will like it even better when I get used to the routine.

Awesome, Karole :D! I know you'll soon get that routine down to a science !

1.25 mile walk...in comfy heels...

since we're traveling to Iowa today, I needed to move, and the only thing I could squeeze in was a walk to the library.

Shadow we have a wee trip to Ky planned for the weekend so I won't be logging in while we are there and I don't know about the exercise.
We will be pretty rushed I'm afraid.

Anyway, today I helped wash the car and did all the inside cleaning , plus even spiffed up the trunk. Took me 2 hours of non stop doing. So I am counting on you giving me extra credit for tomorrows dearth of exercise!! huh???? :tear::confused::tear: (What did you say--- I couldn't quite catch that)

(Did it rhyme with whoa?????:suspicious::suspicious: Well at least we have a clean car.:crybaby:

Karole, ya nut!

I did the bike, arc trainer and treadmill, plus a couple of leg machines. Feeling strong.

Haven't "specifically" moved and shaked for the last 2 days, but have had enough movement that I've woken up sore the last 2 mornings:rolleyes:

stood for about 2 hours Wednesday afternoon, 3 hours Thursday afternoon (and pre-week-end cleaning and laundry), and 4 hours of standing/walking Friday followed by hours of playing cops/bad guys, monster tag, and other games with Annie.

As dh left for fishing this morning, he did remind me - don't forget we have to walk today - so, I will be doing some of that :D

please, spare the whip :D

More bicycle today. We've changed vehicles since the previous iteration of trail hunting for 'bents. The one down side is their length 7' 5" and 7' 9", respectively. So, we need to determine if they will fit in either, or if we need to (re)purchase hitch mounted bike rack. Oh well, so worth it :)
