I'm just curious as to what has been "average" for women. No offense to the guys, men are lucky to lose faster than women.

I'm about 5'6 and 195 (and turned 40 in October) but I don't look it much as it is "well distributed", I know I need to take it off, but like many people I am somewhat impatient and need some support.

I'd be happy with steady loss not necessarily dramatic. I usallly start to stall the second week into a plan and get frustrated. trying NOT to do that this time...

thank you

Just to add my $0.02, stalling is when you keep calories constant with exercise and you don't loose over a 4-8 week period. Not loosing more weight on the second week of PP is because water loss has occurred on the first week for the dramatic decline of scale readings. If you ate carbs again you would see the scale reading around where it was last week. it's just water, not fat or muscle. You cannot loose 6-10 lbs of fat in 1-2 weeks by this way of eating. It's water.

I lost 60+ pounds in three years. Could have done it sooner but I didn't cut ECC down to 40 due to another health issue. And I was on and off a lot. I think you can count on an average loss of 1 pound a week, which means 3 lbs. some weeks and none the other. Come join us in the challenge section for daily support.

I'm just curious as to what has been "average" for women. Welcome in, Alexandra! Actually, there's no two women ever in the same circumstances, so I don't think the question has a pat answer. I've been on a low carb diet at least three times with different goals and different results. There seems to be a first-time success that isn't necessarily replicated in subsequent diets, even with similar food plans.

We've got the support if you can summon up the patience! :) You also need to absorb the basics. Have you read any of the PP books? There's lots of reading to do on this board, too. Come and stay with us for a while!

As Carol, and Brigit-Carol have said, there really isn't one simple answer. Even for the same person, results vary depending on age, health etc.

I lost about 25 lbs over six months. I'm 5' 2" and went from 145 to 120 in that time. I have been down a bit lower, but I generally maintain in the 115-120 range. I was 42 when I started, and I'd never done any kind of diet before.

As everyone says, we each have a diffeent story and a different profile. I started losing after my bilateral knee replacements in 2005. Lost 50 regained 20. I started at 250. In 2007, I took myself in hand, cut carbs, kept calories under 1500, and lost to 170. It was a slog. Frustrating, slow. By 9/2008 I had regained 20 (eating carbs.) So I started again in October but only cut carbs to less than 30 ECC, not calories. Nothing hapened except I began to gain weight. I am now back on less than 1500 cal/day and the weight has started to come off again. I am now at 11 pounds from my original weight loss. I am 75 and NOT a vigorous exerciser. It takes me a long time to learn anything about my own body. I have no health problems that keep me from losing. I am on no medications that prevent losing. I simply have stubborn fat.

So take your time. Listen to what your body tells you as you experiment along the way. Good luck.

I'm 5'6", started out at 197 at age 51 and lost ~45 lbs in a year and then took ~6 mos to lose the last 15. The entire time I ate 1750-2000 calories, the same as I do in maintenance. So it was like I was never on a "diet" as I never went hungry. In the previous ~35 years I was a yo-yo dieter on every imaginable diet and gained it all back, but this maintenance level of food throughout the losing process (vLC & 65-75% fat calories), this is my first ever success. I was recovering from ACL replacement surgery in one knee, so the first year I didn't do any exercise other than physiotherapy.

I am new here. I am less than 5'2'' and am 62 years old. I went low carb over a year ago. I lost 10 pounds very slowly over 9 months. Then last fall I went vlc and lost 20 pounds over 4 months. Lately I have been back sliding and want to get back on track. I am trying to ween myself from sweets all over again and way too many nuts. I don't exercise at all but keep pretty busy all day. I'm glad I found you all.

Thanks gitfiddle and Karole for your welcome. I will check out the Challenge, gitfiddle.

Karole, I consider vlc or very low carb to be around 5 or 6 carbs.
