In the last couple years since gaining weight I have noticed a small patch of 15-20 small freckles on my lower left abdomen. I thought it was something called "acanthosis nigricans" but that is a totally dark velvety patch of skin. Does anyone else (male or female) have this? Is it related to insulin resistance? Years ago (probably 15) I was diagnosed with polycystic ovarian syndrome.:(

Steflou, what you have is not acathosis nigricans. It is indeed slightly darker than skin tone, velvety skin, usually in skin folds. It is definitely related to insulin resistance. I've had it for years, but it has almost disappeared since I've been on Protein Power.

If I had been aware of the PCOS implications, I would likely have been able to avoid "graduating" into diabetes. Low carb is beneficial to all aspects of PCOS. It's the only thing I know that helps. Have you found the websites that deal with that condition? They're very helpful.

Freckles are not related to PCOS that I know of, but our skin changes as we age. Check with your doctor next time you see him.

Carol, did you mean to say the freckles are related to insulin resistance or the other term (don't have it in front of me). Thanks, Steflou:cry:
