I bought the first book last night, and started reading it.
I've been on Atkins off and on for two years, and find the process of moving into the other phases after induction confusing and tedious.
What I've read about PP suggests to me that it's a more balanced, more simple, and a healthier way of life.
I found this webside by just googling it. It looks great!

Hi, Earthgirl! This is a great place. What I like about the first Protein Power book is that it not only told me what to do, but also why. I've been burdened with one of those "inquiring minds" and I love this program. It's simple, but we talk about it endlessly. You're welcome to jump in and ask questions. You'll find many of them answered alread if you look at the forum directory.:)

Hi Earthgirl!!! WELCOME!!!!! :D
I think until PP...I viewed every other "low carb" way of eating as....just a fad....but BECAUSE of the PP and PPLP...and as Gitfiddle mentioned...the "why" was answered! The Eades along with this board (mostly) showed exactly WHY I should accept this plan and brought it all home very crystal clear to me. ~subsquently, after "listening" to the helpful members of this board, I then reread these two books/ and the rest of their series...and saw that the information WAS clearly written. This board just helped me digest it!!
I don't think I can ever go back to what I WAS doing to myself perviously...mainly because I know the "whys" now!!!
Welcome aboard!!! :D

This definitely is a healthier way to eat than Atkins. Enjoy your fruits and veggies. ;)

I'd like to amend that to: "This is a healthier way to eat than Atkins is (when practiced by people who never even read the book.)"
That said, welcome aboard.

It's funny how people say that PPLP is "easy". Basically you need a degree in biophysics to understand most of the darn stuff! In this way it probably attracts more intelligent types (modestly not including myself:redface:), which explains the great postings we get on this forum.

I think PPLP is a good book.
If you want a very dry, science-y book on lowcarb (and who doesn't? :p ) that is heavy on the biochemistry, try Life Without Bread. I really had to push myself to finish it.

PPLP is a great book - it changed my life....
Thanks for the reference, I'll give it a try.

I loved Life Without Bread. The chapter on energy is pretty technical, but apart from thet I didn't find it a difficult read. It doesn't give as much detailed dietary guidance as PP/PPLP but I found the data that Dr Lutz had collected over the years fascinating, and I like the emphasis on health first of all, with weight loss as a lower priority. I found it interesting to see information on how long different things take to respond to a reduction in carbs, and the range of responses (they don't give that for every effect, but for some).

I think Barry Groves' Eat Fat, Get Thin covers much of the same stuff as Life Without Bread, but it easier to read.

Maybe I prefer books by engineers to books by doctors. To each their own.
An even more technical one is the Ketogenic Diet by Lyle McDonald. He also makes you track calories (Gah!,) but his book is more for bodybuilders. Very interesting read though.

Oops, sorry, Dan - I deleted my post to avoid taking over Earthgirl's thread - it looks as if you were replying while I was deleting.

You have altered the flow of time! You must be a witch!

No, I've just watched too much Star Trek ;). Well, maybe a bit of witchcraft too - I did once attend a course on herbalism :D, which most of my friends referred to as my "witchcraft classes."
Right, now I'm going to make a determined effort to let Earthgirl have her thread back!
