Its good to see you all again. I am almost too ashamed to come back, but well, I need the support, and the recipes. I can do this, I know I can! What always seems to get me off track is the mental issues i have over the finances, I have been poor all my life, and I naturally tend to shop for the cheapest foods. it just has so gone against all my life training to buy good protein, and to avoid the starchy foods. Last time I gave up was because in the grocery store the prices of food had gone up and I was frustrated and said to myself, "well, I can buy a whole bag of potatoes for that" and I put the meat back and got the potatoes, it was downhill from there and I gained back all I lost.
Anyway, I am back, and wondering why I quit, and how to best deal with this mental attitude I have that I cant afford PP eating. Truth is I cant afford to keep gaining, i am 59 now, and weigh 274, I can hardly move or do anything, I have things I want to do, life to live, and I cant do it at this weight.

Lucille! It's so good to "see" you again! I hope this time will be the charm. Never, never be reluctant to be here with us! I understand the financial strain; you probably have more company now that our economy down here is suffering a setback. We'll all put our heads together and explore ways to live PP on a budget.
I live with people who still eat junk food, so I'm spending more than I would if it was a carb-free house. How many people do you have to feed?

I live alone so its probably easier than if I had family to feed. a lot of my overeating I think is from loneliness.
I started PP when I lived alone, and financially, thought like you did.
But really, you reduce the AMOUNT of food you eat, so it IS financially okay to eat this way.
Plus, I'm an avid sale/coupon watcher! I don't plan the meat I'm going to eat the next week until I check out the Sunday ads and they tell me what is on sale!
OH, and welcome back!

thanks! I just made one of your recipes Ammy, with cauliflour chicken and sausage in a casserole, its deeeeelicious!
and yes, I realise there will be a lot of foods i no longer buy, plus I eat less on this WOE. I will keep that in mind next time i shop.
Mmm, it was a good find, wasn't it!!

I did some cooking today, made a delicious quiche with broccoli bacon and cheese, also made a hamburger casserole, threw in some chopped up sausage, cauliflower and peas and mushrooms and onion, its also delicious. I kept it light on the peas.
I have enough food cooked now to get me through the weekend I think.
I forgot how well I do on PP. not hungry at all, very satisfied, and this all feels like comfort food. its amazing how cauliflower nicely replaces potatoes...I am so glad I am back on PP eating.
oh ya, i made the one minute chocolate cake, that was nice.
next time I will make a raspberry sauce to go over it.

Your menu sounds great! I especially like the cauliflower concoctions as a main dish with meat or as a side dish without. We eat well!

Lucille, I too am back again and yes it is an incredible place to be, not only for all the support and ideas, but because it is always a sign to me that I am taking care of myself, what a joy that is!
Your food prepared sounds wonderful and robust, enjoy every healthy bite!

I think this woe can be more expensive too, Lucille. I also find it more labor intensive than any other way I have eaten. (Most things have to be cooked from scratch, to avoid hidden carbs)
But, if we aren't careful we can risk our health eating the cheaper "carby" way. Can we afford to make ourselves sick , or is it cheaper in the long run to eat healthy and stay lean and well? (That's another way to soothe your feelings that it is costing to much for your proteins. ) You just can't afford not to eat this way !!
Anyway, welcome back-- I too was successful a few years back--got off track and regained all I had lost--now have lost it again and I am determined to stay here this time. My bp and sense of well being are affected when I go the other route.
I think eggs are such a great source of low cost protein, that maybe several dishes with them as the main ingredient could possible help out the budget--If you enjoy and can tolerate them , that is.
Anyway, best of luck and so glad to see you back with us. Come jump in our challenge section too !!

I'm back again too. Had gotten down to 163 pounds and now have gotten back up to
the most I have weighed in my life - 188 - and suffering from daily acid reflux. I too am now on my own and just recently been widowed and retired. I need to address this weight issue once and for all - I AM RESPONSIBLE FOR ME! It would be nice to lower or get rid of blood pressure meds - and less Lipitor would be nice too- but one step at a time - less weight equals better health and a longer life , especially since I have always said I would live beyond 90 and hopefully with all my faculties intact. I'd hate to have been telling a lie all these years LOL!

Hello and welcome to you too, Chubbette. One of the great benefits I have gotten from this woe is to get off of 2 bp meds. I still take one, but keep hoping one of these days I will get to do away with it too. So it does happen and it is certainly a wonderful goal to set .
