Up and at 'em, gang! We're hitting mid-month pretty soon so it's really time to "knuckle under" and get to work on your January goals ! Hope to hear some more great reports from all of you this week :D!

Hello all, I've got a lot to do (mainly revising for my exams in phonetics and phonology) so just to report on my today's workout:

Sunday - 10 mins stationary bike + 12 mins Just Upper Body (Karen Voight dvd)

I will check in on Tuesday, hopefully with some new reports. Have a great week, everyone!

Hi, Adina, it looks like it is only us here so far today--(maybe the shadow will give us extra credit for that????)

I did my Over fifty dvd and it is a good total body workout. I did extra while she was talking or explaining the next exercise so I got in 30 full min.

We are going to go play golf this p.m. --it is totally crazy, as the temp is only 41 but it is so nice and sunny and no wind so why not. I'll do like anyone else doing things outside in this weather--dress for it.

Then we have got to go to the grocery store and stock up as they are predicting a lot of icky weather for the most of next week. I can hardly wait !! But at least I'll be well prepared and able to eat delicious low carb fare. Won't suffer on that front one bit. Bye for now.

Hi, all,

Today, was 45 minute hike at the state park on my favorite 2 mile trail.
Hadn't gotten to walk since last weekend, boy those inclines really did a number on my hamstrings!

Well, got to go. We are getting our spare room ready for our 23 yr. old to come back home to live to go to college and work. So much stuff to go through.

We are going to have a great week.

I completely ran out of time today, but I didn't use hand weights and did an upper body workout. Something, which is better than nothing.

Me too, Jackie! :)

I'm dodging demerits by announcing that my bag is packed for tonight after work and I've arranged for the descending blizzard not to hit until I get safely home. (At least, that's what I told DH! :paranoid: The weatherman had better back me up!)

Karole

Lol, Carol and good luck with that weatherman !! They can sure be tricky at times.

I did 30 min. on the elliptical this morning and so I have that done and out of the way. We'll see what else the day brings.

Not to worry! The new blizzard eta is 10PM. I did upper body tonight plus some treadmill, but nothing fancy. There was a dude on my exercise bike tonight (there's only one!), so I mixed it up by starting with the walk.

I stayed at the gym instead of driving home in all the snow that had been and continued to fall.
Did 35min on the recumbant and REALLY enjoyed my book!

Also did my PT today.

I could feel muscles this am that i haven't felt for awhile!!!! Thanks to the new videos I did yesterday. I was wondering how good they would be as they were all I could find and the series name is " Skinny B#$%@" But amazingly enough they were awesome, I can't wait to have time to do the boot camp Its an hour long and I just don't have time in time in the mornings!

Today was 35 minutes of elliptical. Tonight will be 1 1/2 hours of dance.

Shadow

Carol - So glad you were able to get that workout in :D! Way to go mixing it up!

Amy - Great job on that bike !

Jackie - Wow, the title is a bit surprising but if it works, then a rose by any other name, right ? Wonderful report on all that M&Sing!

Dean, Sharon, Karen - you guys still here??????

Hi, y'all,

Yesterday, in am , 20 minutes Body Flex aerobic/breathing tape, in the pm, 40 minutes at the hiking trail at the state park. Yes, Shadow, I did do stretches, but oh, those out of shape muscles!

Well, off to do a quick Callanetics abd/waist tape.

Later,

Lower bod today. I did a very thorough job, IMHO. I rode the bike to pace for the entire mp3 cut of Johnny Be Good! Okay, I loosened the tension a little, but it was really fast! Fifteen mins on the bike, twenty on the treadmill. Adductors, abductors, hamstrings and leg press.

The leg press hasn't been bothering me since I got some advice from my chiro. He said to press my navel up against my backbone and hold on very firmly, not forgetting to breathe. It's a bit of a trick, but it works!

Lots of laughs tonight. I love those people!

Another 35min on the recumbant bike...but I rode an extra 3 miles!!

Shadow

Claudette - Trust me, I have worked out 5 days a week (sometimes more) for over a decade and these old muscles STILL get sore . I don't think I've had hamstrings that have felt good since 1963 :p! Way to go on those workouts :D!

Carol - Awesome job!!! Good choice on the tension - that can really muck the knees up . I am so glad the advice the chiro gave you worked on the leg press! And yes, people think resistance is just flinging weights around, when in actual fact it takes much more thought and finese than cardio ever will.

Amy - Fantastic !

Hi, I did get in an hour of line dancing last night but the day was so hectic I didn't get any other type of exercise done . I'll go do something for today and report in later.

Karole - Way to go on that dancing last night :D! As for today, you know, you really ARE allowed to have a rest day now and again ;).

Huh?? Rest day???? Is this the real live Shadow talking to me--For sure???? Lol

Well , I did 30 min. on the elliptical today. Shadow, I think I'm afraid to take a day off and get out of the loop for fear I won't get back to it.) I guess you can call me compulsive.

Hi guys! Today was my rest day, but I couldn't not check in! Shadow, I paid for the "Johnny Be Good" with a good old leg cramp at 3 A.M. It was worth it, though, and I'll probably do it again!

Jackie

Today will be shivering to keep warm, our school buses are not running, but the schools are still open so we teachers have to be there. Yep too cold for school. -51 with the wind this morning!!!!

I will also be curling this evening (the great Canadian game) a game usually last about 1 1/2 hours. I am sure I will find muscles I forgot I had.

Shadow
01-15-2009, 09:42 AM
Karole - Believe me, I understand that feeling! Even all the years I've exercised I'm afraid to take a break in case I never start up again :o. But at least I'm not as compulsive about it as I used to be. I think what might ease the anxiety some is to still be as active on your rest day as possible :). For example, I don't count walking, shoveling snow, cleaning house, etc as a workout - but I do count it as active resting. Maybe splitting hairs but it keeps me from being too obsessed about it all ;).

Carol - Hopefully with practice that leg cramp will soon be a thing of the past !

Jackie - Wow - stay warm out there!!!! The curling sounds like a great way to spend the evening. Some activity, some fun, hopefully some body heat being generated!

Hi, Adina, it looks like it is only us here so far today--(maybe the shadow will give us extra credit for that????)
I hoped, for once, it could work but not in this life, I'm afraid...;)

I can't believe it's already Thursday! Hoped to drop by earlier but it finally didn't work. However, dear Shadow et al, I did my M&S almost every day!
Monday - Tae Bo (Wu + Get Moving) +/- 15 mins
Tuesday - nothing :o
Wednesday - Shortcuts dvd lower body (+/- 30 mins)
Thursday - Tae Bo (Wu + Core & Abs) +/- 15 mins

A very short midterm holidays for me, so good to have time just for reading, watching period dramas on dvd, and, well, maybe some exercise too?

Shadow
01-15-2009, 12:55 PM
Adina - Glad you could finally pop in :)! Even if you made it smaller, I saw the "almost" in that sentence ;). And I'm hoping that "maybe" turns into a definite yes !

OK, Shadow sent me an e-mail so I guess I need to check in.

Monday: Nothing :(
Tuesday: 20 minutes arc trainer HIIT
20 minutes stationary bike
Wednesday: Nothing :(
Today: 1 hour session with a personal trainer (mostly weights)
20 minutes stationary bike

I'm struggling a bit to get back into a routine, having to force myself to just get to the gym. Then when I go I avoid the weight machines because I feel like progress is so slow for all the time they take. But it's getting easier... and I'm planning to get in a second weight workout for the week on Saturday.

Glad to see you, Karen :D! You should know the Shadow is ALWAYS watching ! As for the weight work, there's so much that goes on "behind the scenes" that you need to keep reminding yourself of all those benefits :). Besides, you don't want me chasing after you, do you ?

Hi, late posting tonight but I just got back from 1 1/2 hour line dancing and that is all the exercise I have to post today. Boy, we had a work out tho as there were several fast dances that we hadn't tried before--even a jig. It was great fun and I really enjoy it.

Forgot to post last night, but I did the upper body stuff, randomly because the gym was quite busy again. I had to park ten cars away instead of by the door! :suspicious: I rode the bike at higher tension and no HIIT. Treadmill elevated to 3 and it feels better to my knee than flat walking. No leg cramps last night, either! Hooray!

Have a great day, all!

I'm sure that you can count this additional walk as an extra exercise, Carol! Surely annoying (it's winter, after all) but good for you. I say it against myself, I definitely prefer using another 'motto': Naughty but nice!:D

No leg cramps last night, either! Hooray!
Great news, I'm happy for you!

I did 20 minutes of stationary bike (HIIT) this morning, if I have some time before sunset, I will do Karen Voights upper body programme, it combines standing and floor exercises, it seems so short yet I felt it for two days!

Have a great weekend and see you on Sunday!

Last nights curling lasted for almost 2 hours. I loved it, helps that we won as well:p!
This morning was 30 minutes on the elliptical, my goal for the weekend is to try my 1 hour boot camp video. This evening I will probably go skating with the kids.

Shadow

Karole - It sounds like a fun - and moving - evening !

Carol -! Great workout and I am so happy to know the cramps stayed away :D!

Adina - Nice try, but I don't think walking ten car spaces counts :p. Way to go on that bike and hopefully you got to squeeze in that upper body, too!

Jackie - Awesome!!! It's always wonderful to combine exercise with enjoyment ! Hope you get to try that bootcamp workout this weekend!

Up and off to the gym this morning in spite of the cold. Tomorrow should be warmer!

Did all cardio today, starting with 30 minutes of intervals on the arc trainer. Not sure if it qualified as "high intensity" but I was sweating pretty good when I finished. Followed that with 20 minutes on the stationary bike at level 10. No intervals there, but kept my heart rate in the "fat burning" zone. (I don't know if I really buy into the belief that you burn more fat at lower intensities, but I do think variety is important.)

Still planning another weight workout for tomorrow... I will post.

Have a great day,
Karen

Karen - Like you, I think it all comes down to variety :). That way the body never knows what it's getting ;). Way to go getting that workout done! Now, when is it a weight day again, hmmm :slywink:?

Lower body last night, with some HIIT on the bike. It's starting to need more effort to get my pulse up. That's a good sign!

Have a great weekend, and I'll be back on Monday. :)
