If you don't know where you are going, you'll end up someplace else.

Yogi Berra

What would you like to get out of the Protein Power way of eating?

I am using PP to avoid the complications of diabetes. Included in those benefits are lower cholesterol and triglycerides, lower blood pressure, and my food addiction has backed way off! Yes, it is sometimes a pain to count the carbs and the protein, but the quality of life is worth it to me. I know where I’m going, or rather, where I would be going if it weren’t for PP!

Today is de-Christmassing the house (spell-check didn’t like that one!). It is always a letdown to put it all away, but I am looking forward to an orderly house once more.

Breakfast will be a protein shake. Lunch will be roast beef/cream cheese rollups. Dinner TBD after a run to the butcher’s.

I'm using PP to improve my long term health, and avoid the daily blood sugar swings that used to have me feeling tired and depressed every afternoon. If I eat the right amount of the right kind of foods I just feel so much better. It's not complicated, but sometimes I forget that this isn't some kind of duty or imposition, but something I choose to do because I like the effects. Thanks for the reminder, Carol :).

I'm a bit of a traditionalist about some things (quite a lot of things ) so I like to leave the Christmas stuff up for the twelve days of Christmas. We'll still be at my parents', so I'll probably be taking their things down: it's just the tree and cards. We weren't at home for Christmas, so we didn't do any decorating in our own house.

Good morning everyone i use this woe because it was the only way i could get off of bp meds. I dont know how many people told me i would never be able to get off the pills. You know its sad ive tried to get some people to read the eades books and to make a change in their life for the better, but unfortunately not to many have taken me up on it. I wont stop telling people about this woe if i can help just one person it will be worth it. Have a great day everyone.

Good morning everyone!

What would you like to get out of the Protein Power way of eating?
Energy!! Stamina!! And, like Carol said, it keeps my food addiction at bay!

I can't believe the things I am able to do now that my weight is down, that my energy level is up, and that my ATTITUDE has improved so much!

I have planned my food for the day. Things might change as I want to meet my friends for supper and I have no idea where we'll be going, but I have a tentative plan. Right now my calories are way too low, but like I said things will probably change.

8am 2lc scones
10am 2oz steak, 1oz cheese, mushrooms in 2egg omelet, 1/2 orange
2pm 5oz ground beef with mayo/mustard, 3oz green beans
6pm big salad with chicken, ranch dressing
4oz wine
iced latte

Pro: 120
Ecc: 28
Fat: 143
Cal: 1670

I'm kind of sore from skiing yesterday, but I think I'll use some free weights today. Nothing major, but do something!

The reason for this WOE for me is because there is no other time in my life I can remember feeling this good. The health benefits alone is the main reason, diabetes runs in the family and if I can do something to avoid that I will. This is it!!!! I also like the feeling of being in control it gives me a high, boosts my confidence and of course the weight is a bonus!! I can't wait to have to go shopping for new clothes!

Breakfast will be a shake with blueberries, lunch will be chicken drums and spinach and dinner will be ????

I need to improve my meal planning, I usually have lunch and breakfast planned but not dinner. I am thinking when we start back into a routine on Monday that will change.

The scale was the same this morning WA HOOOOO!!!!

My reasons for PP.... to prevent diabetes, lose weight, lower triglycerides and cholesterol level. Also helps to know that once I'm into it I'll have more energy and won't feel like I'm dragging all the time.

Off to a semi-good start today. Bacon and eggs for breakfast with a slice of whole wheat toast and some Chi tea. Dinner should be salmon patties. Probably some tuna, cheese and almonds in there somewhere. Weekends aren't as structured for me.

I too will be de-Christmassing the house. Growing up we left things up through the 5th (twelfth day), but I'm practical enough to just do it the weekend closest. I want things back in order as much as possible.

I also need to plan the dinner menu for the week, and the grocery list to go with it. And the mountains of laundry and paperwork to deal with.

I hope everyone has a great weekend!

Good Morning folks!

I PP because it's RIGHT! :D

I pp for several reasons.. one, I feel fabulous off of sugars and wheat.

Second, and I didn't realize another benefit till after a binge on sugar over the summer, that my heart palpitations are non-existant on pp. (the doc wanted to put me on lifetime beta blockers at 27 yrs old.. I said WHAT!! NO WAY!!) The sad thing is he tried to scare me into taking them, and we had no clinical evidence of my symptoms, just what I had experienced... doc's annoy me, esp when they want us to just pop a pill instead of examining our lifestyles and see if we can make some changes that will correct the problem.

Also I have issues with systemic yeast and sebborhea (which is also a fungus) and reducing sugar/carbs dramatically improves the symptoms.

Oh, did I mention I can actually lose weight too... :O)

I have one of Amy's Praline Pumpkin Pies cooling on the stove! YUMMMMM!!! It smells so GOOD in here!

I think it's been so long for me to follow low carb recipes that it was fun to go check out my favorite low carb site for new ideas! :D It was also interesting for me to see that the grocery store that I shop has brought in some Walden Farm low carb stuff. Good.

This is my favorite site:

Hope you like it Missy-Lynn...it was hard to wait a couple days to eat it, but it truly gets better "with age".

Missy
01-03-2009, 01:38 PM
lol...I doubt I'll 'wait'..:o..lol but I am only willing to eat a piece a day...and maybe cut it 'thinner'...so enough of it will age. LOL

I have a question for you though? I didn't have enough nuts in the 1/2 cup (plus other ingredients) to make it 'up' the side of the pie plate....did you?

and..

Perhaps I thought I was using a 9", when it really was a 8" pie plate, but I had 'extra' filling...did YOU? I just baked the leftover in a glass baking dish. It won't have the nuts, but it seemed to bake fine.

Ammy

when I didn't "chop" the nuts in the food processor, I didn't have enough to go up the sides either.
when I did, the "crust" covered the entire dish, but I didn't like it as well.

I did use a 9" deep dish pie crust so it all fits...it does FILL the dish.

I can see how it wouldn't fit in the "not so deep" pie plates.

Big dawg and becca how nice to see ya!

I just said to Gabe this afternoon, after three days I already feel better, more stamina, more energy---look out world!! I love Missy's' answer, because it is the right thing to do!

Breakfast was 4 pieces of sausage, two LC cranberry nut muffins.
Lunch was turkey on LC bread with cranberries
Dinner is meatza pizza with green peppers and mushrooms

Not exactly perfect but okay on carbs, need more veggies.

A little off on my water intake today, we have been "wii-ing" and laughing lots crazy people.

I'm in it because I would like to lose the other 25 lbs and keep my lab work looking great, prevent diabetes and have energy to spare.

I have left, then come back. It is really the only way for me to lose the rest of my weight.

Bille, Becca, Missy, so glad to "see" you again.

Brunch- two eggs, over easy, slice lean ham, 1/3c. steel cut oats w/ spash of cream, tea
Snack- almonds
Dinner- homemade chicken w/ veggies, dreamfield's pasta, chicken broth, green salad, sf dressing.

Exericse: 45 minute hike on 2 mile state park trail, callanectics toning tape.

Hugs,
Claudette

HI all,
I am doing to PP to have peace with my food which gives me mental peace because I dont beat myself up over feeling like a failure which leads to overeating and creates a wicked cycle. PP has been THE ONLY WOE ever where i dont feel deprived, where i dont obsess over how much have i eaten and how much have i left to eat. I have a lot of flexibility and eating out is easy too.
I love korean food and i experimented with a tofu stew today and it turned out great. Super high in protein yet low low carb and even low fat (so i can have that whipped cream later lol). I am not concered about fat but tofu is just by nature low fat. i had the stew for lunch with some different kim chee which i loooooove.
dinner will be salmon patties, cucumber salad and caulimash. so far, so good. see you tomorrow.

All in, almost all done. Going to enjoy a piece of that pumpkin pie tonight! :D Amy, I know I'm gonna like it, so I may as well buy a deep dish 9"!

Yeah, I hand chopped the nuts, and it wasn't enough. I think I'll add to the nuts to make it go to the top.

Billie! Don't you just LOVE the Wii!!!!! :D I won't tell you how amusing it was for me to watch my husband box his mother! :o:evil::D

...I'm going to HELL!! lol :jawDrop::paranoid:

Hi, had to get out there and do some grocery shopping today so am late getting to the board. So great to see everyone posting away here.

Carol, you have an excellent question for today and to answer: I am mainly interested in keeping in good health. I like the energy that comes with this woe too.

I want to stay clear of as many pills and meds as I possibly can and since I've been here the past two years I am down to just one bp med whereas I was taking 3 . I call that sucess that I can measure (as well as the weight I've lost)

I like my smaller clothes and my horse likes hauling around over 40 pounds less every time I ride him. He hopes I stay on PP forever !! (I do too)

Did okay with food today: protein 115 ecc 29 water at 60 oz. and I will get in the rest before bedtime. See ya'all tomorrow.

Day turned out like this. Breakfast was the shake I mentioned earlier, but lunch was 3 pickled eggs and a hand full of almonds, dinner was 4 chicken drum and one plum tomato toasted with parmesan.

I almost have all my water in, I am comtemplating going out to shovel a bit Kidlet #1 did most of it but it has warmed up a bit out there and we have got about 6 inches already today and its still snowing. I love shovelling snow as long as I am warm. Yep I will dress up and go there!

Water: almost
Protein: yep
carbs: I am still not calculating down the exact amount
Supps; yes

Carol. I love your question--many folks think that lc-ers are only interested in quick weight loss. FAR FROM IT! Just looking at the replies answers that. There are far more folks who do this for the health benefits and that's me too, now. I originally got on the plan for weight loss, but I soon noticed increased energy, decreased bp, a healthier digestive tract (to put it politely), less fluid in my ankles, less dermatitis on my lower legs. And of course, I did lose weight. But it's neither quick nor easy.

I've been maintaining now for about six months and I'm ready to start paying closer attention to my protein requirements and carb limits. I went shopping today so that I could have convenient meals for the week (always my salvation) and as of tomorrow nignt, the kitchen will be cleansed of all Christmas carbage. Monday is our first day back at school, so it's a perfect day to pack and count my meals.

Good seeing you all!

So far so good... the headache kicked in today. Tried to make sure I took extra potassium/magnesium pills. Unfortunately I didn't do as well on the water. It has eased back a bit, probably because I managed to stop and drink some at dinner! I had to really fight the urge for toast and left-over kisses from Christmas. I have (so far) prevailed.

For the day:

Protein: 137
Carbs: 37
Water: approx 64 ounces, but it's early yet, should get another 8 (maybe 16) in there.

See everyone tomorrow!

Hi, everyone! :) What a wonderful thread to come home to! Claudette and Ruth, it's great to have you with us!

I was whisked away for a short trip up north before I even finished my coffee this morning. The sun was shining and the roads were dry. Ruth, I thought of you as we passed Big Rapids, even though you're back home now.

Talk about my plan changing! Breakfast was sausage patties as I put on my makeup. Lunch was some beef jerky that I bought at a trade show. Dinner was at a Mexican restaurant that had everything except salads wrapped in a tortilla, so I had a taco salad. It contained about a quarter cup, well, maybe a third, of ground beef. Not enough for a hungry pilgrim! I decided to have a few pistachios when I got home, which wasn't a good idea because I forgot to stop! I'm sure I'm over 30ecc but probably under 40. :o Also, no exercise except walking around the show, but Shadow wouldn't count that so neither will I.

The decorations are still up in my house.

Our decorations are slowly coming down (sigh). Today it was the outside; tomorrow we'll start the inside.

Speaking of Big Rapids, Carol, it was snowing like crazy when we left on Wednesday. So now it's back to dry roads (at least for now) and a bit warmer temps (30s-40s).

What motivates me? I feel better and I lose weight and start looking like I like too in clothes.

I have a cold.... DH and I are cleaning up leftovers. I'm looking forward to Monday... Protein shake for breakfast is calling me already.... I love a new recipe so share away!

I know I have mentioned this before... but I love the fact my daughter hasn't had anything other than formula (yuck), fruits and vegetables. No rice or oatmeal cereal... I am so excited about it! More motivation to eat healthy myself!

I don't have any advice from anyone. I just figured why start with empty calories? Doesn't seem to do the body any good....any online research indicated that it was not necessary to start with cereals and it was ok to start with veggies and fruit... so that's where we began. I am 50/50 with real natural fruit and veggies and prepackaged "organic" baby food. I need to buy a new veggie steamer (or veggie steamer pot). I was given the Magic Bullet Blender (http://www.buythebullet.com/) for Christmas and this should puree baby food nicely. I purchased the Deliciously Deceptive Cookbook (http://deceptivelydelicious.com/site/) last year and found some great recipes that can be modified to be low carb high protein. The idea is to hide veggies in the food... NICE! My DH didn't even notice. I also recieved The Egg Book (http://www.companyscoming.com/cookbooks/original_series/1/EB/) for Christmas. I will certainly share what I uncover!

Looking forward to finding routine Monday! yay!

I enjoy how my body feels eating this way. More energy, no cravings, etc. I've been maintaining a 40 pound weight loss for the last two years, now I want to move toward my ideal weight. My husband of ten years is type 1 diabetic. He eats lowcarb to control his blood sugar and for optimum health of course. So we support each other. It works out pretty well.

Posting Saturday, here goes.

Breakfast was a scramble with eggs, sausage, peppers and cheese. Snack was half of a banana. Lunch was 1/3 cup tuna and mayo, black olives, and 1/4 cup of dreamfields pasta and roasted tomato sauce. Dinner was Mushroom burgers on romaine leaves instead of a bun. Took my supplements, drank my water. Activity was heaving furniture around the living room and helping my husband haul a felled tree up to the house.
