I can't figure this out I got a blood test done and my iron levels and blood cell count came out normal but my transferrin levels are pretty high. Can anyone guess what this means?

here are the results.

Transferrin is the plasma protein that binds to iron and transports it through the circulation. TIBC measures the total amount of iron that transferrin can bind. While the two tests are different and are reported in different units (g/L for transferrin and umol/L for TIBC), they measure essentially the same thing.
Jay, this is the simplest answer I could find. Hope it helps! :)

I found Lab Tests Online a very interesting site. They help to explain all the obscure categories in a CBC, for instance.

usually low iron with high transferrin & low staturation could indicate anemia - but you can throw off iron readings if you recently take a supplement. do you take iron supplements? Also noted, your saturation isn't low.

It can also vary to the high side if you are pregnant or on oral contraceptives. Of course, if you are male that wouldn't apply.

I'd just wait until you talk to your physician. I've found other instances on the 'net where the reference range is 200-400 mg/dL - so 430 isn't as out of range if that were the reference.

you could read the relevant paragraph here too:

I don't take iron supplements, antibiotics, hormones, or any other medications. The only supplement I take is calcium and magnesium. I eat alot of red meat daily and have been doing so for over 2 years since I started low carbing. So I can't figure out why transferrin levels are so high which would indicate iron deficiency.
