edited to add: Arghhh! Somehow the E disappeared when I put in the quotes in the title -- should be "Eat your statins" -- would a kindly moderator please fix? I can't stand mispelling things, especially in titles I can't fix!

Good article on how diet and exercise can help in lowering heart disease risks.

Only fly in the ointment is the statement that the benefits of diet and exercise haven't been proven to lower risk as much as statins. What? Thousands of years of human developement isn't "proof"?

At least they seem to be offering alternatives to the pills !! To listen to all the tv shows you would think you need to make an appointment today to get started taking the statins.

Generally, the side effects of diet and exercise are weight loss, cardiovascular improvement, more energy, better sleep, less depression, and muscular development. The side effects of statin pills on the other hand, are well known and yet infrequently discussed. From the wiki:
myalgia (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Myalgia), mild transient gastrointestinal symptoms (diarrhea, constipation, passing gas), elevated hepatic transaminase (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Transaminase) concentrations, headache, insomnia, joint pain, and/or dizziness.

I think they forgot brain fog, but that's a decent list.

I think I'll take somewhat decreased efficacy and the side effects of diet and exercise over a more efficacious statin with its side effects.

Their idea of proof is science within the last 30 years. And we know the diet and exercise studies are so often dumb. Low fat diets and lower intensity endurance exercise.

My cousin-inlaw experienced extreme anger on statins.
