Here's a thought to get us going on this first Friday of November:
If you don't know where you are going how will you know when you get there?
Part of back to basics is looking ahead to renewed health and well being. How are you doing on that score today?

My plan today is to taste no more than two spoonfuls of cake batter when I made the 2 pound cakes I'm making today, and one bite of the sugar free pumpkin bars (not low carb).

I've had a shake for breakfast and will have ham/cheese sandwich on flax bread for lunch along with a salad. Supper will be the rest of the chili I didn't finish yesterday and depending on where my carbs stand, perhaps an apple.

Have a great day, everyone! :)

BC, you hit the button just before I did, so I joined your thread:

Good morning! Today's the end of the first week of getting back to the basics of PP. How is it going for you? Having any difficulty with keeping track of carbs or protein? That's today's discussion.

I have to admit I haven't been faithful to FitDay, but I intend to. Yes, I know what's paved with "good intentions". :p

I got a break last night at the dinner I attended. The chicken had white cheese instead of wine sauce and the vegetables were a delicious mix of things I eat rather that the honey-glazed carrots on the original menu. It was no trouble to leave the potatoes and bread. The cake was cut into two-inch cubes (very genteel!) and the gentleman next to me was grateful to get mine. ;) There were two diabetic women who were mystified why I didn't eat the carby stuff because "they could". They were going by the hospital's diabetes instructions and were on meds but gallantly keeping their bs "under 130". When I told them about mine, they pumped me for more information so I could be an ambassador for low carb.

Have a great day.

I'm doing everything I'm supposed too! :D IMAGINE THAT!!!!:paranoid::eek:

BC....keep yourself very MINDFUL around that cake mix stuff! :o

Carol...good for you! The ambassador role is fun sometimes... :suspicious: sometimes. I've gotten good about laying information out with ZERO expectations of people who actually might listen! LOL I don't get too enthused until they seek me out a second time for more information, ya know?!

Hello all...
BC, I just baked up cookies and was able to stay on plan - not ONE lick! I use to find it VERY difficult to bake and not "taste"...I mean, we need to know that it's "right"...right? But I got over that. I double check the recipe to make sure I met it exactly, and I put my faith (and the taste) in God's hands.
GF said the cookies were very very yummy...

Carol...how wonderful that you got to ambass...;)!!

Missy...it's so nice to hear you say (again) that you are doing everything you're suppose to! We both kind of got "off track" for awhile, didn't we???

I have been on plan all week. It's been really wonderful. Well, until today. The scale got to me today. I went to bed hungry, woke up in the middle of the night with a growling stomach (but then went back to sleep) and woke up hungry...still the scale went up 2lbs. Now I KNOW the scale jumps...usually I can dismiss this no problem...but to have the scale go up when I'm so hungry? ARGH...
I'm seriously considering adding more food. More protein, more fat, and therefore more calories...this is getting ridiculous!
I'll wait though and see how the scale reports tomorrow.:peeved:

I took on a dog walking gig today through the 14th-then we go hike-in camping for the weekend, so I have lots of exercise planned.

7am 2eggs, 2oz turkey kielbasa, 2/3lc muffin, 2Tbsp salsa
11:30am lc goulash, 5 asparagus spears
3pm 2 turkey stick, iced latte, 1/2 apple
6:30pm chicken caesar salad, 8oz red wine

Pro: 113.7
Ecc: 44.1
Fat: 128.4
cal: 1999

I've gotten good about laying information out with ZERO expectations of people who actually might listen! LOL I don't get too enthused until they seek me out a second time for more information, ya know?! Same here. I quit with just a short answer, not wanting to bore the others, but they didn't want to let go. Finally, I just wrote down Dr. Mike's and Dr. Bernstein's info for them and it's up to them to follow up.

Now I KNOW the scale jumps...usually I can dismiss this no problem...but to have the scale go up when I'm so hungry? ARGH...
I'm seriously considering adding more food. More protein, more fat, and therefore more calories...this is getting ridiculous!Maybe incrementally more fat (without more protein) until the hunger goes away? Or maybe there's something you're eating that makes gas? If I eat before bed, I often end up taking Maalox to "settle" my stomach.

Good job on the baking. Better you than me! I am a cookie freak and I have finally progressed to the pre-formed ones you break off and bake. The boys feel loved and I can leave them alone.

If you don't know where you are going how will you know when you get there?
This just makes me think of Iraq and foreign policy. *sigh*

Things are going. That's all I want to say. Have not been very basic thus far, but today is a new day.

I've been fine with recording - except I didn't bother trying to work everything out for the day we ate out. I'm still finding that I just barely get there on protein some days. I know it's partly because my husband really would like to be mostly vegetarian, so our main evening meal, which has generally supplied a good chunk of the day's protein for me, is coming in lower than usual. I need to adjust my other meals a bit to rebalance things.

We went out for a walk in the lovely autumn sunshine at lunchtime. Very nice. We both took our cameras. He finished off the tail end of a film of 12 frames. I took about 60.

I was on plan yesterday! As I have mentioned, I am working flylady (http://flylady.net) (trying to anyway) and meal planning is this month's habit to learn. Now, DH will "support" me on whatever I choose to eat. Whether it be ice cream or steak. And he's seen me on all sorts of diets, so this time, I told him I was eating LC and left it at that. DH loves his chips, mac & cheese and potatoes - I don't want to force him to change if he's not ready BUT ... Lets just say I controlled the meal planning with protein ideas...DH and I went through the freezer and pantry to see what we could make with what we have. We planned meals for the week which worked wonderfully BECAUSE when DH got inspired, we still have a Low Carb meal. Last night was grilled minute steaks. It was super tasty!

So to discuss today's topic - I am finding it easier to get on board with PP this time around.Planning meals (with an abundance of ideas) has helped tremedously. Like I read above, I want this a lifestyle for me. And because I am surrounded by carb eaters, I'm not going to be offended if they eat it in front of me OR feel guilty if I do or do not participate in eating Carbs. Tonight is a family camp out. I have given myself permission to pack protein snacks, but, like all family gatherings, sometimes there is carby goodness you only get once a year, and I may participate depending on what's served and whether I feel like it's worth the 4 days it will take to correct. :) The one agreement I made with myself is I would not throw out this WHOLE DAY, just because I MAY have more than enough Carbs tonight. THIS IS A VICTORY FOR ME. Last time around I would trash the whole day if a honey tree meal was planned. YAY me!

I would like to also recommend this website (http://www.ted.com/) TED and this Tony Robins Speech (http://www.ted.com/index.php/talks/tony_robbins_asks_why_we_do_what_we_do.html). It's only 20minutes, but really got me thinking about my eating habits. I eat because of the emotion... anyway, it helped gain perspective.

Wow, I'm chatty today! Happy Friday!

Good morning. Sunny nice day out. A good day to shop.I think I will. Maybe there will be sales. Or I may get out some patterns and fabric shop. I love to create my own .

I ate eggs today and so far only a little nausea . I am drinking water and green tea.I rode my bike today. I have a roast in the crock pot. I have not taken my suppliments yet. They make me nauseated also.. I plan on weight lifting around 1 when the gym gets empty.

Yesterday I planted 100 tulip bulbs.I took my time. I can't wait till spring.

Hi all,

My hubby is whisking me away for the weekend to celebrate our wedding anniversary (yesterday) and I have no idea where he's taking me :D !

Mitra, some of your pics would look lovely incorporated into the websets I design ;) !

My menu today so far:

B: Sheila's Easy Breakfast Shake
L: Whitecastle Hamburger Pie (finally finished it for the week!), sauteed veggies, lowcarb Dannon w/cool whip
D: No idea yet, probably on the road and will be my first time eating out since starting PP.

Y'all have great weekend, I'm off to visit other parts of the board now.

Walden Farms does ketchup, BBQ sauce, dressings, etc.

I don't like the ketchup very much, unless I'm using it IN somethign, like goulash or meatloaf.

Here (http://www6.netrition.com/cgi/prices.cgi?manu_id=394) is the netrition site showing the Walden farms products.

Good morning (afternoon).

Breakfast today was a hamburger patty and a blackberry muffin (thanks Amy for the link to that recipe!)

Lunch will be leftover meatloaf, unless DH wants it, otherwise some deli roast beef

Mid-afternoon - a protein shake (I'm experimenting with splitting my protein into 4 meals instead of 3)

Supper tonight is short ribs, with salad and veggies

So, food is on plan, my exercising is done for the day, and I'm drinking water like crazy!

Learned two BAD things from netrition.com today.

One...if you buy the Isopure puddings (http://www26.netrition.com/instone_pudding_page.html)...buy now...here's what it says under all flavors.
Instone (http://www26.netrition.com/cgi/prices.cgi?manu_id=215)
High Protein Pudding, Milk Chocolate (http://www26.netrition.com/instone_pudding_page.html)
Very limited quantities. Possibly last batch ever made! All pudding is best by dated June 2009.

Second bad thing...my "no carb" crackers (http://www26.netrition.com/gg_bran_crispbread_page.html) have been reformulated...now they have 2 net carbs each...:peeved::peeved::peeved:

We were very pleased with it. The base was roasted red peppers pureed with paprika, and I accidentally made twice as much as we needed, so I think I'll be making another batch next week to use it up.

Feelin' MIGHTY in control this evenin'...if I don't say so myself! Even having that KETO breath too!:DBleah! Don't breathe on me! :slywink: Don't you love the feeling of no cravings?

On the subject of low carb ketchup, I recently opened a bottle that I've had in the pantry for a while, thinking I would make barbecue sauce. I tasted it and threw the whole thing away. Yuk! I'd rather live without barbecue sauce!

Exercised tonight. All I've had for dinner so far is a sf jello/cream snack. I've got beef soup in the crock pot, though, and I'm going to have a little before bed. I should check and see how much protein I still need. I've had more water than usual today.

Our weather has turned! Gray and chilly and very windy. We're going to get the tail end of that Dakota storm. Time to get out the winter coat. I think I need a smaller one. Time to go shopping! :)

Thanks to netrition's great shipping rates, it will not cost very much to have it shipped at all. I'm going to order 3 bottles.
