You see, our premise—the one we’ve lived by now for over a decade—is that humans are born to be well, but they spend the greater part of their lives mortgaging that birthright and squandering their health potential.
Dr. Michael Eades, The Protein Power Lifeplan
Today, I'll remember that I’m born to be well and I’ll take another step in that direction.
Today will be packed. Unless I take an extra long lunch hour during the day, I'll be voting after work/gym and standing in a long line. I will vote, though. Lunch is packed, gym bag is packed. My eyes are sorta open. Breakfast will be a protein shake, lunch will be chicken. Dinner may be carryout, depending on the situation at the polls.
Good morning to you! What's cookin'?

Good morning, Carol :). We don't have anything planned for today, though we often eat out on Tuesdays, so that might happen.
Why are there queues to vote? Do you have very few polling stations? I can't remember ever having more than a couple of people in front of me when I've voted, and even that's rare. Normally we just walk straight in and out.

Good morning, all. :)
Since I didn't get to cleaning Chapel House yesterday that is on the task list for today. :( Cleaning house is not one of my favourite activities. I'll probably also make some more firestarters for the craft fair.
The meatloaf planned for yesterday turned into chili con carne instead, so I'll build my day's food around that. Flax bread and cheese for breakfast, chili and salad for lunch, and probably more chili with cheese and lavish crackers for supper. In between my normal almonds and dark chocolate. And some folks thing this WOE is restrictive!
Have a great day everyone! :)

I ELECT to do the right thing today and do my DUTY, as a fellow CITIZEN of this fine board to stay TRUE to my plan. :D
I VOTE that YOU do the same!!!
Mitra...this is ONE BIG BIG ELECTION for us. Historically, for one. (our first "black" man, not to mention the 'first' woman VP) and two because our economy is such a mess. You can't even BEGIN to imagine the onslaught of campaigning that went on. I, for one, and READY for this thing to be OVER WITH ALREADY!!!
I get anywhere from 5 to 8 LARGE post card election mail. ENDLESS amounts of 'robo' calls per day...and a few 'live' calls too! It's RIDICULOUS! Do you ALL get this much action? Cause, here in OHIO it's INSANE. Not to mention the cris cross of the ACTUAL Candidates coming around. Sheesh!!
Mitra...for Minnesota, 8 years ago when voting was at a low they reduced the number of polling places...they almost cut them in half. That year I stood in line for 2.5hrs to vote.
Four years ago I left work and voted at 10am, no line at all.
This year we're leaving work at 2 to go vote (then the opera). We're hoping for little to no line.
Morning everyone. My hip is MUCH better today, not sure what the problem was, just happy it's gone!

I don't pay attention to the mail (if it's nothing we want it doesn't even make it into the house, it goes right into the recycling), but we do get a CRAZY amount of phone calls.
For some scary reason, I was added to the mailing/phone list for the Christian Right-Wing people...you know, the ones that are fighting gay marriage?
:suspicious:
Yeah...that's pretty annoying.:peeved:

Normally we just walk straight in and out.Normally, that's what I do. This, as Missy said, is a huge, hard fought campaign with an historic choice on either side. I will be so glad to have it over, no matter who is elected. I drove by my polling place this morning as the polls opened, thinking I could be late for work and have done with it. The parking area was full and people were lined up for yards, so I drove on. I'll probably leave work at mid-afternoon instead.

The office is humming. Not crazy yet! My breakfast turned out to be a serving of roast beef in the car rather than a protein shake because I was going to try to vote early.

Unprecedented turnout is one part of it.
Strategic manipulation by partisan Secretaries of State is another.
New voting technology causes delays.
Broken voting tech causes more.
Strict scrutiny of identity causes more.
Other smaller causes, but a lot of people are expecting really long lines.

First, we learned, Barack Obama has "Comfort Teams," which are all volunteer forces who don't campaign, but simply bring water, hot chocolate and snacks. "No campaigning, no materials," Adelman said, just making sure the people who have to wait in long lines aren't hungry or thirsty.
While I'm not a big fan of the name Comfort Teams (too much like this (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Comfort_women)...), this is the kind of strategic and tactical planning you have to admire. At least a little.

I'm told that the war in Virginia has been as bad as the war for Ohio. But I think the Pennsylvania people have been hit the worst.
Hell, we had some Anti-Obama attack ads here on TV last night. I compared it to burning $1000 bills. Chicago is pretty deep into Obama-Safe territory.

Hey y'all.. Checking in. Breakfast was Turkey. Shake for Lunch and Supper is open. DH and I are going to get our pictures taken with Lizzie at 5:30pm. So we may or may not go out to eat.
As far as politics, I am game for today. We have normally been a Conservative State but we may be flipping.
Yesterday was on plan! My only struggle is fitting in exercise. I'm a wimp and it's cold outside. I have been cleaning and making sure i do that with gusto!

Hello, I'm new but I'm here!
Today is just another average day for me! Putter around the house and then off to work I go (I work second shift). I luckily don't have to battle the polls because I voted with an out-of-state absentee ballot through the mail last week.
No exercise today for me, my arms/chest/back are sore from yesterday! I'm doing a 100 pushups challenge, it's a system that builds you up to being able to do 100 pushups in 6 weeks! Yesterday was day 1.
Food, food, food! :p I couldn't decide what to eat this morning for breakfast/lunch so I pretty much just snacked (some buffalo wings, some almonds, some celery with cream cheese). Dinner is going to be a big delicious salad with romaine, red cabbage, yellow pepper, onion, cheddar cheese, bacon bits and thin sliced "steakum" steak with mustard dressing, YUM!

Craziness here in PA today. I was in line at 6:30 a.m. (polls open at 7) and I was #41. I finished at 7:20 and headed to work. My brother didn't get to vote yet because his polling place was so jammed he couldn't even drive near it. I just saw on the news that in Philly two Black Panthers were holding nightsticks to intimidate voters (later removed by the police). Guess PA isn't too locked up yet . . .
Anyway, I was glad I had made my shake last night since voting took so long this morning. I packed some chili and stuff for a wrap in case I don't get home before I have to go to work tonight. Should be good.

We are going to eat out tonight, but I made a start on some prep for tomorrow's dinner. I'm going to try the Hungarian Goulash recipe from the last issue of Cook's Illustrated, so I roasted some red peppers to go in the sauce. I toasted a couple of packets of hazelnuts while I had a hot oven - I love toasted hazelnuts.

I for one am disappointed. I didn't have to stand in line for NOTHING! Walked right in, signed the book and had a choice of five voting machines!! :o
Our precinct has 900 voters...lol That's if EVERYONE chooses to vote! lol:eek:

Wish me luck!
My 85-year-old mom has been an election official for years, and she was kind of sorry she didn't retire after the last election when she decided she was getting too old to stay up and reconcile all the errors that occurr. It has been 2 a.m. some times. I'll bet she'll do it after today for sure.
We are having just the nicest weather, so even if there's a line outside I'll get sunshine and mild temps.

Staying with the ones you're tired of does help with portion control, though. :o

Here's a weird question. Missy, you obviously live in a small town. With 900 potential voters, and five voting machines, you're looking at 180 voters per machine. Given a 12 hour voting window, that's about 15 voters per machine, per hour. Again, assuming everyone turns out, which NEVER happens. Now, assuming you don't have a ton of ballot issues and judges to renew and local downballot, I think the could have moved at least one of your machines to Cincinatti or Cleveland or even Akron or Dayton, where they are liable to be looking at way more than 15/hour/machine.
We had a ton of machines at our early voting location, maybe about 12, but this location was serving a pretty decent chunk of northern Chicago. They were only running about 8 of the machines, but keeping them fairly busy. With 15 screens of voting, was about 5 minutes to the vote, maybe 10 if you weren't quick and didn't know what you were looking at.
Any rate, more examples of odd asset allocation decisions that wilt in the face of logic.

Lunch changed to sauted spinach and bacon. I found spinach turning in the fridge and decided to make the effort. Pretty tasty too if I do say so myself!
Just got done voting...
took us 15 min to get to the polling place, 5 minutes to vote.
no line for us...WHOOT!!!

My timing was right, too. Walked right in and was out again in ten minutes. After that I went and picked up my grandson because his dad was still at work, which totally discombobulated my exercise schedule. Like, I didn't even get to the gym. Wednesday is usually my rest day, but I have a meeting after work. I will commit to going after the meeting, I guess. :p
My dinner so far has been a brat. Not the best, so I think I'll add to it.

Hey all,
I'm pooped tonite, both mentally and physically  ! Mentally partly because of the election, partly because of the time change. It takes me several weeks to adjust.
My plans got changed last night, so no exercise. Tonite, no excuse. I'm just pooped. Did I say that already  ? I'm also finding when I'm tired, I want to eat. Anything. I had a snack when I got home from work (after voting) and have already had another little snack and I haven't even started dinner yet :peeved: ! At least I'm keeping the snackin's "legal".
Here's the menu today:
B: Egg/cheese/turkey bacon scramble in a La Tortilla wrap (only ate half of that)
L: Whitecastle Hamburger Pie, cream cheese/cool whip snack
D: Smoky links/mockafoni & cheese
S: Spam w/real mayo, pepperoni chips, 1 Minute Chocolate Cake
Sheesh, when I type it out it looks like I'm eating a ton of food :D .
Carol, no the avatar isn't my photography. I make websets and that's one of, oh, 50 or so photos I have saved to work with.
Ammy, thanks for the welcome!

Being tired or hungry sure can undermine our best intentions.
Hope you get a good night's rest, lm, and tomorrow is another day.

Took a long time to check in today ... meant to do it earlier ... Anyway, I didn't have to fight the voting today ... I cast my ballot almost 2 weeks ago ... And at 9:46pm mst ... I'm just glad it's over. Now ALL of the mudslinging can/should stop and we can try to rebuild this country... we would have had to do that anyway, no matter which politician won.
Good day for food.
B-fast = protein shake
lunch = BBQ turkey sandwich (LC bread)
Dinner = chicken noodle soup, light on the noodles.

I'm too tired to respond to the individual posts, but wanted to jump on before bed. Way to go, folks! :D
I messed up this evening at Bible Study. We were eating up food left over from a funeral supper. I did great -- BBQ chicken (no sauce), salad, green bean casserole. But then.... Hawiian wedding cake -- one of my absolute favourites which I haven't had for several years. I only had a small piece, but when I got home, my blood sugar was 192. :(:crybaby: Overall carbs for the day were about 10 over, but obviously not balanced. Lesson learned: can't even have a small piece of cake without injecting insulin beforehand. Pits. Ah well, tomorrow is another day and I am already back on plan.

Food was on plan today. Bacon, eggs and a cup of coffe w/ cream for breakfast, lunch was meatloaf, supper was supposed to be scallops, but I forgot to defrost them. so we just had hamburger patties, dill pickle spears and canned peaches (I just had 2 slices). For snack I had a few pecans. A little while ago I had some warm "milk" (1 part heavy cream, 3 or 4 parts water) with nutmeg, cinnamon and a little bit of splenda.
Just got back from the Opera...VERY good, quite humorus!
had a second (very small) sf latte at the opera, and sucked on 7 sf werthers.
I also adjusted my meals. I do NOT like it when I do this but I was just SO HUNGRY!!!
