I think I'm missing something here that Dr. Eades wrote where polyunsaturated fats caused a greater progression of coronary artherosclerosis. Isn't Krill oil a polyunsaturate oil and therefore would cause greater progression of coronary atherosclerosis?:confused:

What about actual changes in coronary artery diameter?

Among postmenopausal women with established CHD [coronary heart disease], greater saturated fat intake was associated with less progression of coronary atherosclerosis over an average follow-up of 3 y, whereas polyunsaturated fat and carbohydrate intakes were associated with greater progression.

Sorry, boy am I confused... doesn't take much these days :redface:.
I meant that Krill oil would limit the progression of coronary atherosclerosis. That's why I am puzzled that Mike would say that PUFA (and therefore krill oil) will cause more damage than saturated fats.

I'm not really sure what you are asking. Krill contains saturated fats in about the same ratio as most fish sources. Here's Dr. Mike's blog on krill oil. Hopefully it will answer your questions.

Krill Oil is usually 1/3 Omega 3. Omega 3 is a polyunsaturated fat. That's why one takes it, because of the Omega 3 PUFA's.
Doctor Mikes states in the referenced article that I first posted, "As it turns out, the more saturated fat these women reported eating, the less their coronary disease progressed. Those who ate the most polyunsaturated fats, i.e., the vegetable oils Ms. Parker-Pope is so enamored of, had the greatest rates of disease progression."

I guess it's the polyunsaturated fats of the type that are in vegetable oils (maybe the Omega 6) that are the damaging kind and not the polyunsaturated type like Omega 3's that are in Krill.

It struck me odd when I first read it, but upon reading it again their is more to it that just liking Krill to polyunsaturated fats.

I think, all things being equal, the omega-3 and omega-9 varieties of PUFAs are a lot less the problem than the Omega-6's. I recall that this is information discussed in the original protein power, about keeping the 3:6 ratio tilted to the three side, whereas most people have it tilted to 6. I find, that by eating low carb, I tend to not eat very much PUFA at all (consider, beef is 49% MUFA and largely Sat for the rest) and with Omega-3 supplement, do not have to worry about my 3:6 ratio. Then again, I also cook with a lot of Olive Oil (frequently, drizzle things post cook) which is more Omega-9, which is also pretty good for you.

hello all,
This is an interesting debate, how much omega 3 and 9 does the krill have?

I am also wondering if we couldn't find a renewable resource that works the same way? I hate to think of harvesting the food the whales need so much of the survive!
