Hello! I'm new here and really needing some support and accountability. I originally began PP in 2000, and was an early member of this board, although I never posted much (I was DonnaH). I read a lot, though! I originally lost 40 pounds very quickly, then got derailed when we took a one-month road trip in 2001. Since then, I've been on and off...gained back most of the weight, and now am trying to get serious again. My main goal is not so much the weight loss (although I do have about 90 pounds to lose), but I am diabetic, and my blood sugars lately have been getting really scary. I am on large doses of insulin, but even with that my morning fastings have been around 250! For the first time in my life, my blood pressure is high; I am having some signs of kidney changes...a lot of good reasons that this has to be my way of eating for life. I also have two sons who are struggling with their weight, and two young daughters who don't have weight problems yet, and I want to keep it that way. My husband has also been putting on some weight, and he is very supportive of making us a PP household...in other words, he's willing to keep his candy bars at work instead of at home! Anyway, I am here, and will try to be involved in the board...it's my last hope of having success making a long-term change. I was injured in a car accident four years ago and sometimes it's difficult for me to type, but I will do my best...I've really enjoyed reading through the new board and finding some of my "old favorites"...recipes, shopping list, resources, etc. Thanks, all of you, for your example and enthusiasm!

Donna, I'm glad you decided to join us. This is a good place to find support oand encouragement :). Even putting up short messages will help you to feel part of the group - and that's a great help in maintaining motivation.

Welcome. I am also one of the old ones who didn't post much, lost weight, and now have regained and need to lose. I have my good and bad days with food.

Good luck to you. I am glad that your husband is supportive.

Welcome back, Donna :)! I agree with Mitra - even a short post will keep you active and in touch here. And don't forget to holler if you need some cheering, advice, or answers! We're here to help however we can.

Thanks so much for the welcome! Right now I am trying to decide the best way to dispose of the multitude of carbage I have in my house...we had two graduation parties for my son last weekend, and have lots of leftover sweets...including THREE gallon tubs of ice cream. I finally threw away the last three pieces of cake. Now if I could get rid of the Butterfingers and Three Musketeers taking up residence around the house... My house is definitely not PP friendly at the moment!

Hi, Donna, welcome back. Why don't you simply toss out the sweet stuff?

AAAHHHH! I know that's the most logical solution, but it seems like such a waste! (I'm from the clean plate club...that's probably why I'm here today!) Not that I want my family to eat it, or pass it on to friends, either...

Donna - Far better the garbage can than in you ;). Don't you have any enemies you could share with ? Seriously - if you know people who have no qualms about eating carbage, go ahead and pass it on. They're gonna eat it whether it comes from you or the store or anywhere else - and it would get it out of your way :slywink:.

Give it away if you can't throw it away, but don't become the garbage can for it yourself!

Welcome back, let us know how we can help you, support you and be there for you!

list it on freecycle - someone will be happy to have it and come take it off your hands.

Better the waste can than MY waist. I have been known to throw the remainder of binge food out the car window, even. It might not have been polite, but it's a survival tactic. At home, I dump carbs that aren't eaten in a reasonable amount of time because I would be the one to finish them up. The guys don't even miss them.

Somebody once said that "desperate situations call for desperate measures". If I eat it, my health suffers, so out it goes. Period. You just tell DH to take those candy bars to work and leave them out for people to take. They won't last long! ;)

I wish you well, Donna! Also, congrats that your son graduated! A few years ago I was on pins and needles just about now wondering if mine would make it. (He did!)

Or you could donate it to a food drive...that way you can feel good about getting rid of it. I plan to take my latest purchase of Green Crisco I just bought, by mistake...:o to my gym, because they have a food drive going on...and I'll just make sure I have it WELL covered....with other "better" things...lol  Isn't that terrible of me. CRISCO!!!!!! lol food drive....lol I better think about this.

Churches and other charitible organizations have pantries for people who need a little help. They might take the ice cream and anything that is still in it's original package unopened.

Hi all...thanks for the suggestions! I thought about taking the ice cream to my church and leaving it there for the next potluck, and I bagged all the candy and sent it to the downstairs freezer...right now I'm still highly motivated, so the temptation to eat it hasn't hit too hard yet, but if (when!) it does, they will head out the door. I realized lately that there's a lot of "unthinking" we have to do to make changes like this...like not looking at this as a waste, but as wisdom. Eating it damages our health...throwing it away only damages our pocketbook.

We went to a buffet place for dinner tonight and I really enjoyed my lc choices! Didn't even bother me when my daughter got a piece of cheesecake! I've also been learning how to listen to my body's hungry/full signals, and stop eating when I'm satisfied, not stuffed. That is such a pleasant feeling...to walk out of the same buffet where you've had to "roll" yourself out before, without a stomach ache but pleasantly satisfied! Having blood sugars coming in under 200 the last two days has really helped up the motivation factor. Thanks again for the welcome and advice!

P.S. Carol, thanks for the mention of my son's graduation...he likes to say he squeezed a two-year college degree into 3 1/2 years. He took a lot of extra classes...he had one last computer programming class he was really concerned about... and ended up with an A! He's moving on to Wisconsin this fall for more schooling...I'm not looking forward to that!
