Do you take your bs as soon as you get up? If so, how many hours since you last ate?

Or

Do you wait until you are about to eat breakfast? If so, how many hours since you last ate?

I'm curious about this because I eat late. Not intentionally. I'm trying to get my head into a shake for dinner, but I don't have the protein powder at the house that I like, and money is keeping me from getting it. Anyway, last night, about 9:30, I ate about 3 ozs of lean steak and nothing else. I just needed something on my belly. That was my supper.

My bs at 7 a.m. was 122. I retook it before I ate breakfast (I eat after I get to work) was 106 at 9 a.m.

Which number would you consider?

I get up at 5 a.m. 6 out of 7 days. I usually don't get breakfast until 8:30 or 9 most days. Some days, I might manage to get a protein drink in me if I have some of the prepared ones at home.

It's been a while since I measured my bs at all, but I think it was always when I got up, mind you when I get up I usually have breakfast soon after ... if I am eating breakfast.

I'd suggest if you are having problems with the dawn phenomenon it would be a good idea to at least have some sort of snack first thing - it doesn't have to be much. This should curtail the high bs till you actually eat breakfast problem, and if this is 4 hours or so most days, that is a significant benefit to you.

Have you tried the various timing/eating tricks for your last meal/snack at night too? Again, well worth some experimenting. Some say a glass of wine works wonders ... and I really want to believe that one!!:p
