What are your plans for the weekend?

I plan to clean and organize something in my house... My MIL is coming over tomorrow and we will be attacking the baby room and maybe the garage with cleaning and organization. I am looking forward to it.

Before we start cleaning, we are going to a local farmers market. I can't wait to pick up some fresh veggies and fruit!

Personal Update: I have had to increase my # of calories/protein. This baby has kicked my body into overdrive and my bs keeps dropping every hour and a half. If i don't eat by the end of hour two I am shaking, sick and really tired. I LOVE having a glucose meter because it tells me what's going on in my body... most third trimester mommas suck it up to being pregnant and don't take care of their bodies..... I get the pleasure of checking and EATING! LOVE it!

The Weekend Starts Here:

(goofiest thing I could find using the Fatboy Slim tune)

What's up for the weekend:
Friday Night: if the weather holds, I'd like to grill. I'm thinking pork for me, wife will want a "good meat"*. That's why I have a 22" grill. And a very large fry pan. If not, we might go out. We'll see.

Saturday: We're going to see REO Speedwagon out in Indiana.
http://youtube.com/watch?v=dqJK29zsO44
I suspect it will be a little smaller than the above. I think we might also go see Hellboy 2.

Sunday: I want to get a Brother P-Touch. Been talking about it as long as I've been working towards "Getting Things Done" David Allen style, so, now, with a new office and all that, it's an opportunity to get it and use it. So it is written, so it shall be done. Would hope to have internet up at the house (should be accomplished by EOB today, I dream, I dream). At any rate, I have some other errands to run.

Whole weekend: good eats. Days 3 (today), 4 and 5 on my way to my Brother's arrival before Thanksgiving.

Back to work. I have reader to kill through and a desk aid to create. Later.

Good morning!

I'm feeling much better today--slept all night, chills/fever seem to be gone and I have just a shadow of a headache in the background.

Not working today--actually have a day off, so I'm just chilling out in the house this morning. This afternoon I'm going to a friend's house. She just had foot surgery, so I'm taking a few things to her and keeping her company for a bit.

BIG drop in the scale this morning--I'm hoping it's the whoosh fairy, but we'll see what it looks like tomorrow. In the meantime, I'm not changing my ticker--just call me a skeptic.

Looks like all of you have weekend plans. For a change, I really don't. We do need to deal with getting our curtains and blinds back up after having our windows replaced this week. I also need to do some window washing here and there (fingerprints/streaks caused by the installation and doggie nose prints in our living room).

Have a great TGIF day!

Hey Max.Where are you seeing REO?
I'm in Chicago on the 18th to see YES. I think it's in mellinium park

I am making food for a birthday party today. I think I'll cover some strawberries with some dark chocolate .( for me) and then I am making a layered strawberry shortcake and a chocolate birthday cake.
I showed my husband my guitar lesson. I fingerpicked the first part of a song he knew. He was amazed. My finger tips feel liike hamburger today. I wonder if I can play with a surgical glove on the left hand. The spirit is willing but the body is weak.
I just hope I am not weak tonight. We are having a big bash with food, music, people and bocce ball at a good friends house. We brought over 7 microphones and some column speakers. Free form jam session. Many of our friends are musicians.
I am going to eat with my mind not my senses. Meat and salad and a couple choc covered strawbs.

GF asked ME to make her Mac and Cheese last night. I dont' like the stuff, but can't NOT have a few bites when making it, so to counteract the problem, I made some dreamfields and melted cheddar and parm in it...not bad, but I had 1.5servings of noodles and it was too much (but I ate it anyway).
So...to I found this today and thought I'd share this LOW CARB recipe for Mac and cheese...

Yes is at Charter One Pavillion at Northerly Island. If it were Millennium Park, I'd force the wife to go. I saw Anderson, Bruford, Wakeman and Howe at Madison Square Garden in 1989 I think. They weren't touring as Yes because of some dispute with Chris Squire over the name (funny, 4/5ths of the core members can't be Yes, but one guy can... stupid legal system). At any rate, they were really really really great. Total musician's band. I'm not a musician, but I love all the bands that only musicians really get. Yes, ELP, Rush, Tom Waites, etc.

REO is at the Star Plaza Theater, in Merrilville. Honestly, when I bought them, I had REO and Supertramp so confused in my mind, I thought we were gonna see Tramp. I'm not bummed about REO, but would not have paid what we're paying for them. For Tramp, definitely.

Sounds like some good weekends planned. I'm splitting mine between finishing organizing my office -- whew, what a lot of work... thanks Max -- and goofing off. I figure a 25/75 spilt. I like to grill while I swim. Makes it painless. And I can grill enough to last for three days. Thank god, because it sure is hot standing over that grill.

I really want to see Wall-E, but will probably do that Tuesday. My partner, Sandi, doesn't work Tuesdays and the movies are always less crowded. I wish she'd go see movies like Hellboy II... but not a chance. But this Tuesday is my birthday so the rule is I get to choose. I'll have to check and see what's playing. I might just have to torture her. ;-)

Another consideration for birthday Tuesday... what do I want for my birthday treat? I let myself have one thing on my birthday. A short stack at my favorite dive. Strawberry shortcake made with real shortcake biscuits. A piece of cake or cobbler. It's almost pornographic thinking about it. But it's a ritual I look forward to every year. And I have to say, when I do keep it to one treat, I really do enjoy it. Although the next day the sugar withdrawal gets me and I crave everything bad for the day. You know the drill. So is it worth it to indulge in a big sugary treat, knowing I'll pay in cravings afterwards? For me... yes. You can have the celebratory champagne and wine, regardless the vintage. Give me a perfect cobbler any day.

Have a good Friday night.

I had a doctors appointment today and discussed my bs levels and what I was doing to compensate. I was praised for my bs levels - he said I was one of the few woman who were taking GD seriously and doing what it take to keep bs levels consistent. I told him that I found "low carb" eating helping maintaining a good bs level. He saw my dietary plan (I have to write down everything I eat and include it's value) and he said he would do more research into the subject. Can you believe a doctor listening to his patient? I mentioned I didn't struggle with heartburn, I kept even bs levels and felt much strong.

The only concern is the ketones in the urine. Studies have linked ketones to children with lower IQ and learning problems. However, this is with Large Daily levels not what's considered "trace" amounts. So for me, keeping my carb intake between 60-100 carbs seems to do it. No additional weight gain and a healthy baby.

I am thinking of doing a write up on my GD experience for up and coming GD mommas who are struggling to find balance between the cravings, doing a complete dietary change and managing life.

I am thinking of doing a write up on my GD experience... Feelix, you make us all proud! He must be a thoughtful doctor. You can't argue with results!

I've had a busy day and got a lot done. I even hauled my body down to the gym just now. Breakfast was two sausage patties. Lunch (late) was ricotta with berries, coconut, almonds. Dinner will have to be very light to sleep on, but I'm HUNGRY! I'll nibble some ham while I make dinner for the boys.

Thanks! Its always nice to be patted on the back for following through.... I think that's why this forum is so important. We need each other to be accountable AND to cheer us on when we do "good". The PP way of life is not mainstream. We need to support each other as we refuse and take each bite. BIG HUGS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Feelix, I can't even begin to tell you how much this board has helped me and how much all of you, my friends, mean to me. It has been the key to my progress, not to mention my sanity!

For yesterday, my third day of an attempt to do 140 days, I went:
Pro:193
Carb: ~20

I might be understating the carbs a bit. A major flaw with ALL of the calorie tracking software out there is that there's considerable fudge factor, given that the serve sizes are not necessarily related to how people eat in the real world. There's a lack of clarity as well. For instance:
http://fitday.com/webfit/publicjournals.html?Owner=maxlharris&Year=2008&Month=6&Day=11
Chicken wings. I went out to a restaurant last night. I ordered some hot wings. It came with 8 pieces, 3 drummettes and 5 forewings (or whatever you call the two boned piece). Now, fitday has a lot of ways to put chicken wings in. And I'm still working on figuring it out. You can enter whole wings, you can enter ounces raw and boneless and raw with bone, or you can enter number of drummettes. Nothing for the forearm piece. So, I fudged. I called it 4 medium wings. Which was more calories than 8 drummettes. But, if you go to chicken wing with hot pepper sauce, 1 piece is 73 calories and 217g of chicken meat. For those following along at home, that puts your one piece at pretty close to half a pound. Since your traditional full order of buff wings at a bar is 1 lb of wings, and you get 16 pieces, I don't see how this math adds. Especially considering the 217g is of roasted chicken. *sigh* Long story short, the protein and calories may be overstated. But the carbs from the melon might be under or overstated due to similar issues.

At any rate, I erred on the side of caution in both directions. I maybe under/over stated the protein, but at 190, I'm confident I didn't get less than 120-140. Similarly, at 20g of carbs, I'm pretty sure I didn't get over 40.
