Unfortunately, I never got my blood work done prior to starting low-carb. I think part of me was worried that the doctor would freak out and try to put me on some various medicines.
A few months into low-carb I got my numbers taken and then recently I had them taken again. I posted the results in my personal journal on this site but thought I'd put a post here as well.
Cholesterol
Total: Went from 201 to 199. Yay, I'm now in "normal" range :P
HDL: Went from 29 to 31. Climbing those charts!
LDL: Went from 146 to 152. Going the wrong direction but I've probably got more of the big flakes instead of the smaller bb's.
Triglycerides: Went from 132 to 81. Major drop even though I was already in the "acceptable" range.
Fasting glucose: Went from 85 to 89. Not much of a difference.
A bit disappointed that my LDL didn't drop and that my HDL didn't raise more but the triglycerides is a pretty big change.
Poking around this forum recently I did some reading on the suggestions to raise HDL (sat. fat & exercise seem to be the biggies). Anyone got some good suggestions for added saturated fat?
I will take a moment and point out the frustration with being unable to use the forum software to search on "HDL". Any query with HDL in it automatically has HDL stripped out due to it being "too common".
