I'll start this for the week, but I don't have much to report myself. I had walking activity for about two hours. Tomorrow is back to the gym.
How about you?
slow start for me as well.
I've been cooking and cleaning all day, and I'm too tired to workout.
I'll start tomorrow!!

Carol...walking is still exercise!:D And...you walked for 2 hours. Awesome!
Amy...as you already know, it's okay to have rest days.
Today, I ran 7 miles on the treadmill. I actually had an "on" day today :D and could have kept on going. My heart rate was nice and steady as was my breathing. Some days I just have good days where exercise is easier than when I have an "off" day where I'm struggling to keep on going. I shorten my run on those days. It's weird that I never know what kind of day that I'm going to have until I actually get on that treadmill. Weird, huh?

It's weird that I never know what kind of day that I'm going to have until I actually get on that treadmill. Weird, huh? Yup! I only walk on it but some of my best walks have been on days where I didn't think I could do it. Go figure. I guess it means always try.
The walking I did today was stop and go. Same yesterday. No cardio there, but better than sitting on my butt in the recliner! ;)

Exactly. Some days, like today, I didn't think I was going to run very far. I told myself that if I only run 3 or 4 miles, that that would be okay. As soon as I got on the treadmill, I knew it was going to be a good day. Opposed to yesterday, where I thought I was going to run 6 miles and only ran 2 miles. I struggled yesterday to run the two. I just think it's weird.;)

Agreed! It's definitely better than sitting doing nothing!

Carol - Thanks for getting us up and running for the week :D! And way to go on that walk, too!
Lizi - In all the years I've exercised, I've yet to find out how that can be. But it's definitely true - we all have good days and bad days. Just like humans to be so fickle, huh ?
Amy - It's okay... you still have the rest of the week to get going ;).
I'm now 3 for 3 on my week (I am currently running Sat - Weds).

Hi all, baaaaccckkk again, so I guess I will just jump right in. I just got back from Pt and it was my next to last session and then I am on my own to do the exercises and stretches at home. I will have to say they have greatly helped the pain in riding. I will keep doing them for a long while as I am going to be exercising anyway and I may as well keep these up too. I told the therapist it didn't help 100% but a good 85% I'd say and it will probably only get better the longer I do the exercises. I am very pleased with the results.
Tresses, I know exactly what you mean about some days you can and some days you can't. I have those too. Actually, it is good to hear that others do that as well, as I have always wondered why and was it only me that didn't always function. Somedays it feels all light and airy and others sluggish and draggy.
Well, it is good to be back among you, my friends. Will post more later.
Welcome back Karole!!!

Lizi - In all the years I've exercised, I've yet to find out how that can be. But it's definitely true - we all have good days and bad days. Just like humans to be so fickle, huh ?
Yep! So, I just take advantage of those days which are my "on" days and do more than what I had planned. Likewise, if I have an "off" day, I push myself a little bit but not as hard as my "on" days. If I'm really struggling, I allow myself to shorten the time.
Yesterday, not only did I run 7 miles...the most I've EVER done non-stop but I increased my speed by .1 mph for 20 min (not a lot, I know:rolleyes:) and then the last 3 minutes, I increased it by .9 mph. I was watching my heart rate creep up during the last few minutes on my HR watch.
I'm meeting w/ a personal trainer at my gym in an hour to determine my heart rate zones. Gotta scoot!

:eek:I'm hoping you're not meaning poundage on the scale!
But knowing you, you're probably talking about resistance weight, right?;) Yes, one of these days, I hope to report that I have added more weight (and not on the scale sense:rolleyes:). It might mean increasing the band resistance or barbells or what not...

Hello! Bumping this to get the right thread on top.... :p
Carol, I don't think Shadow will let you count bumping a thread as exercise.:D So, I wouldn't even ask!
Yesterday, I ended up at the grocery store again. I put mostly fruits in my cart. I just hope I can keep from eating too many of them. I now have cantalope, watermelon, nectarines, and grapes to eat. That sounds like a carbfest to me. It's just for some reason I feel a craving for fruit. I hope that I can live with all the pounds that they will put on. I think that my body just wants fruit right now. I can't even stand to get on the scale because I know I've put on a few pounds. DH hardly eats any fruit so, the 2 lbs. of grapes and nectarines will be mostly mine. I might try to fix a fruit salad that he might like. I have some cream cheese, sour cream and no sugar coconut. That sounds like a winning combo.
Today, I have a lawn to mow. I hope I get to it. The sky is a beautiful blue. The temps are low 70's and the humidity is super low. A nice cool breeze is blowing the trees and the look gorgeous.
I still have weeds to pull and trimming to do. Lots of exercise planned for today.
I have some pork, onions, and peppers marinading for kebobs later. Lots of veggies with that meal.
I hope to have a beautiful day. I wish you all a beautiful day also!

Oops...I posted this under last week's M&S.:o This is what I did yesterday...
Today, I did get in 30 min of a core class (does this count at all for resistance?) and then ran for 3 miles then did ellip for 50 min.
Oh before my core class tonight, and I saw the personal trainer who has been working with me. I told him that I bought running shoes right after I met with him to determine my heart rate zones. I had told him that the shoes that I've been running in are 1/2 size too small  (one foot is larger than the other) and that's why my big toe hurt on my larger foot after a run...because it kept on rubbing up against the front of my shoe.
Okay so I'm slowly discovering things about myself as I'm running more often. Things like I've been buying the wrong size of shoes for WHO knows how long!
And today...
I took an hour long group class which focuses on cardio...getting me in and out of zones...today's focus was on hills. At one point I was at an 11% incline. All walking today at a fast pace, of course. No running today. Hopefully this class will increase my speed a little and it'll definitely increase my muscular strength in my legs. This muscular strength should help me go longer distances.

Back again to report I did my second session for the day. 10 min. on glider and 30 min. of stretch and strength exercises. Whew.Good job! It's hard to come back after several days off, isn't it?
Oops...I posted this under last week's M&S.:o This is what I did yesterday...Yah, and you're the one who got me in trouble, Lizi! Sounds like you're working really hard! I read an article today on low carb endurance training that was very interesting. PM me if you are interested and I'll find it and send it to you.
Carol - As long as you're with us, we don't care where it is :D! And sometimes we don't KNOW where it is! I had uncomfortable knees today, plus did a lot of walking so I was going to take the day off, but I changed my mind. I went down and did seven minutes on the bike with lower tension, then I used just the upper body machines. I only had a half hour to spare, so I went through the machines at fifteen reps each. Usually I spend an hour or so and rest in between sets. I'm glad I went. I think it loosened up the knees, but gently.

I have a one on one with a personal trainer tomorrow...betcha we'll get some resistance in.;)
Today, I did the one hour long cardio class which consisted of walking and increasing and decreasing the elevation on the treadmill...from 2% up to 11% incline for me.
Then, tonight I took an hour long total conditioning class which involved all of the major muscle groups. My muscles were burning. (Shadow, happy?:p)

Carol I had to do some of the exercises while I was at the trail ride. I didn't manage to do them three times a day like I do here at home, but twice most days. It was hard to squeeze them in some days. I did always manage at least one session tho.
It just takes so much time !!
I just got my third session done around 9 pm so am now ready to go to bed and start again in the morning. I have the last pt session tomorrow and find out how often I need to do them once I am "cured". Believe me they have made a difference.
See you all later.

I got in a lot of exercise yesterday. I mowed a lawn - going up and down a hill. Pulled weeds for about an hour - they seem to pop up over night!:( We have more work outside today. I am going to be digging up and turning over some dirt. Hopefully plant a few seeds. Even though it's late.
DMIL is coming over to help. So, I got to get going!
Have a great day!

Carol, glad the knees are better! Man do we need new knees!!
Sharon, I hear you about the weeds!
I put on some weed n feed awhile back and I ended up putting on too much and it killed a lot of the grass :o. HOWEVER, I don't have any weeds left!!! :D

Amy, I have seen what too much weed killer can do. It takes a long time for grass to come back - it will need to have grass planted if it doesn't come back!
Well, I have put on 4 lbs. I think too much fruit, and over eating because of sore muscles. I been eating too many peanuts!!!!!!!!!!!! I'll cut back and hopefully the weight will come off!

Sharon - Peanuts and fruit definitely add up, but you've also gotten some sore muscles from all that yardwork. So don't be too hard on yourself - part of it may just be good old water retention :). OTOH, nuts and fruit can easily put someone over the line so it wouldn't hurt to cut those back just like you planned ;).

Well...what do you consider resistance? Pilates? 30 min core class? total body workout? (I'm seriously asking...I'm not trying to give you a hard time.)
My legs STILL haven't recovered from the workout out yesterday (Wednesday) with the trainer. Plus, I did a 60 min total body conditioning class on Tuesday. My cardio on Tuesday involved doing hills..up to 12% incline (that really worked my quads!), and today (Thursday) I ran for an hour at a 2% incline (also working my quads). No wonder my quads are sore! Maybe I need to rest my legs tomorrow...

I am soooooo tired today - I can hardly see straight!!! We worked outside from 1:00 to 9:30. I mowed and trimmed. We straightened out a leaning fence. Trimmed trees. I shoveled stone. Watered flowers and pulled some more weeds. This afternoon - we will be putting up some posts for hanging flowers and a bird feeder. Hopefully tilling up garden and cutting up some limbs and logs. It sure takes a lot of time to do all this stuff. It has been so beautiful outside that you can just enjoy hard work in pleasant weather. The sky is so blue, temps in the mid 70's, white fluffy clouds and a gentle breeze.
I cut back on the peanuts, still eating quite a bit of fruit. Dropped .8 lbs. So, as the fruit goes away - I eat less. Still have some cantalope and a watermelon to dig into.:p But, I am enjoying every bit of it while it's in season. I think I could live on this kind of fruit. I enjoyed fruit before but since cutting back on pp I feel like I am craving it now!:o:rolleyes: I guess I could be eating worse stuff!
Well, I am trying to get feeling better - pills are starting to kick in. So, I guess I better start working on BF.
I hope everyone has a great friday and very pleasant weekend!

Well...what do you consider resistance? Pilates? 30 min core class? total body workout? (I'm seriously asking...I'm not trying to give you a hard time.)
IMHO, resistance exercise involves weights, bands, one's body weight, etc - anything that moves the body against an externally imposed pressure. Pilates uses one's own body weight. Core obviously uses the core -so while it is a resistance exercise, it is only for one part of the body. Total body workouts - i.e. exercising every muscle group - definitely counts.
Cardio will work the legs, but IMHO, it is not an even workout for the muscles - but that's just MY opinion ;). Since you are using your lower body every day between the cardio and the total body workouts, how about dedicating a workout to just the upper body? A lot of people focus a lot on the lower body, but neglect the upper body muscles which are every bit as important.

Shadow, you'd have been proud of me. I was on my yoga course today, and the teacher told the group that he'd bet money my practice was the strongest one of any in the group - a group of nearly twenty yoga teachers, one man and some of the women quite a bit younger, and most without wonky backs! (Of course, the reason I'm doing the stronger practice is because that's what it takes to keep on top of the wonky back .)

I thought you'd like that :). I had a lesson earlier this week, and he just nudged things up a little - a bit more time spent on the harder things, and a bit less on the easier ones . Even though I can still feel some tenderness in the SI area, and obviously still need to treat it with a lot of caution, it has stayed more or less in place for a few months now. I do very little that's asymmetric - no twists or warriors. Lots of squats, half squats, upward/downward dog, superman variations, leg raising (that one is asymmetric, from both legs raised, lowering then raising one leg alternately - and very slowly), shoulderstand, some forward bending (and staying bent half forwards, spine horizontal, arms stretched forwards). I wouldn't like you to think that just because I don't come here and report in that I'm not doing it ;).

Busy girl, Sharon! But isn't it great to be able to get out there and do all that? Not to mention, having decent weather to do it in :)?
Oh, Yes! It's amazing how much stronger I am this year than last!!! The days have been awesome!!

That is a bummer, isn't it :(? But that's okay - I know the prolonged absence will just make your workout effort even better tonight :D!I made it! Mostly upper body with a little leg press. Tomorrow, I'm out of town.

Wow, Mitra  :thumbsup::thumbsup::thumbsup: that is just awesome!! Especially with your back. But as you say, it is because of the back problems that you do them and do them right.
I'm here to report my second episode of exercise for the day. 10 min. on glider and 30 min. workout.

Today I got in Pilates using dumbbells for upper body workout. I then did Yoga (I have a DVD on that, too)...just basic yoga...but my cardio instructor said that yoga is really good for runners to stretch out those muscles.

First session in 10 min. glider and 30 min strength and stretch under my belt. It will be hard today to get the other sessions in as we have weekend company and are having the rest of the family over for a cook out. It will be hectic.
