Yesterday I was totally exhausted after a five minute walk . So I'll be pretty much taking it day by day. Today just a few minutes of very gentle yoga postures.

Sunday: Walked home from church with weights (curls/hammers/lunges). 4km
Monday: Body Sculpting class at lunchtime
Tuesday: 30 minutes lifts, abs and 1 hour of Ultimate Frisbee against teh Young Men at the church.
Wednesday: abs work/planks on the roof
Thursday: Day off
Friday: 30 minutes on treadmill 3.5, 100 situps, hand weights to an old western movie
Saturday: Raining - crunches, lunges with weights, curls

Note: I have begun doing my Fasting Blood Sugar/Glucose (morning) again to tune things up and just see where I stand. Our numbers are very different in Canada (ml/liter) but on days after a late workout my Blood/Glucose is well over the diabetic threshold even though I have eaten nothing after dinner. I don't do it often since I don't sleep as well after evening strength training, but it leaves you wondering where that glucose came from.

Your liver makes sugar for you if it thinks it needs too (true). It might make alot more than your cells are ready to take up though. (my opinion)

True diabetics can experience either "dawn phenomenon" or "Somogyi effect". Most of the links that explain these conditions then go on to counsel the diabetic patient about adjusting their insulin dose to counteract it or adding a nighttime snack. (depending on which one it is)

here are some links explaining the phenomenon in diabetics:

http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/entrez/query.fcgi?cmd=Retrieve&db=PubMed&list_uids=1396135&dopt=Abstract

of course, I'm not saying that any of this applies in your specific case- just offering some information.

Thanks Lisa. I go over these links, and it makes sense what you have said about the liver. I am just surprised that the effect still shows up 10 or 11 hours later.

Janet - Take care of yourself!!! Sounds like you need a lot of rest and relaxation for now :).

Don't worry, I kept it very short and very mild. I'll just see how it goes, but I won't be pushing it this week.

Sunday - Missed church and worked instead. Think it was quite a workout - moving boxes of computers and equipment and reinstalling it in another building - 1000 - 1830. Exhausted (esp feet and legs) when I was done.

Today - to the gym; not sure what I'll do for cardio - perhaps rowing if I don't want to stand/run, although I'm supposed to have started to train for the Tely 10 (http://www.nlaa.ca/tely10/) yesterday, so I'm not sure if Saturday counted (went for run with the dogs).

Tuesday and Thursday this week are my first sessions (after last week's evaluation) with the Physiotherapist, so I'm not sure what exercises I'll be doing then.

Is this a weekly posting? Seems to be.
Long shift on Sunday, but today I rode 14 miles, with 32 minutes in my training zone. And expect to do this 4 more times this week.
If it rains, then weight training.
Yes, cycling is a priorty for me!:p

Starship, we start a new thread once a week, but you can post what you're doing weekly or daily - or just whatever suits you. As you can see, sometimes we stick to what exercise we're doing, and sometimes we get sidetracked into talking about the details. It all helps educate us, and keep us interested and motivated. I'm pleased you've joined in.

Okay this is the plan for the week:
Sunday: worked in the yard all day as we are having a backyard wedding. Long day, felt it in the back of my legs and back .
Monday: Nothing
Tuesday: AM: Ran 40 minutes (mid way up second hill), Lunch walked to/from Y 40 minutes (even in the rain, yea me), 1 hour lower body weights and abs. Done! And I feel it….
Wednesday: AM: Upper body weights, crunches, run to top of second hill - Did it, and I hurt so good
Thursday: AM: Abs and butt, run to old cemetery past top of second hill, Lunch walk to Y, Lower Body weights What I managed was run to top of 2nd hill and I can barely walk up the stairs to my office so maybe tomorrow I can do lower body again, ouch!
Friday: Run to Old Cemetery, Upper body weights, abs either at home in the AM or at the Y at lunch
Saturday: Lower Body weights at home, run at least 1 hour
This is the plan I’ll report back to make sure I complete it as it’s what keeps me honest! And I need to keep honest. I looked in the mirror yesterday morning and realized in less than 3 months I am going to be exposing my arms and back to 200 people at my wedding as my gown is backless and only has small straps…and those upper arms weren’t looking too firm….and I’d lost a lot of tone in my body…it doesn’t pay to slack off!

Well, I'm back from vacation. I have to report that formal exercise did NOT enter the picture despite my best intentions. By the time we got back to our room each night I was too tired to do anything. Most nights it was straight to bed, with only a couple nights of relaxing with hubby and the TV before bed.

Some of the days, the exhaustion was just the sheer amount of time driving - we had three days of driving there and three days back. Now, some of those were short days, because we wanted to stay somewhere interesting and explore, but for whatever reason, anything more than a couple hours in a car is always exhausting for me.

I did get in a lot of walking on the trip. In fact, there were a couple days of hiking, albeit on flat trails, that led to a necessary massage to relax my leg muscles, so I did get some informal exercise.

But now I need to get back with my program. After what Ottawa posted about losing muscle efficiency in just a couple days, I'm probably going to be back where I started in terms of resistance levels, etc. Oh well...

Oddly, despite the fact that I felt like I was off-plan with my eating a lot during the trip, I didn't gain any weight. We did have a fridge, so I was able to have my morning protein shakes, and we bought some low-carb ice cream and other goodies, but when we ate out, I wasn't watching my carbs. (I figured since we were in/near Mexico and could get authentic Mexican fare I would enjoy it and worry about the after-effects when we got home.) But apparently I didn't go off-plan enough to worry, or I got more exercise than I thought I was getting.

Anyway, it was fun, but it's good to be back home and I'm looking forward to getting back into my daily routine.

Usually Thursday is the end of my five days of planned exercise. This week has been a bit different  . I started out completely exhausted by a bug, threw in a few hormones, then topped it off with a root canal replacement  . So my exercise has been pretty mild :) . I've done some each day, but some days it's been very gentle indeed - like today, when my post-dental yoga session consisted of the cat and a few lying on my back movements - about 10 minutes in total.

I'm not planning to take my rest days as complete days off, since what I've been doing hardly needs time to recover. I'll add in a couple of standing postures tomorrow, then see if I can progress to a "normal" or "maintenance level" session for next week.

Janet - I'm sure you would've rather been exercising than have the kind of week you did :p. Hopefully the root canal went well and the bug went away so you can now get back to feeling much better all around!

I think the bug's more or less gone, and the dentist said the root canal went well, so now I just have to be patient  .

End of week!

I had a good week and good weather. Rode 6 days, total of 56 miles, and 3 hours in my heart rate training zone.

Saw a couple of neat snakes, and a red tailed hawk up close!

Also startles a couple of walkers when I shout "passing left", but I can't run over them either!
