View Full Version : June 1 Challenge

I went a head and started a June 1 thread because I wasn't sure where to post and I need to for me! :)
Challenge - Who Do You Love? I'm choosing to love me today. With each action and eat bit. I am also choosing to put my baby first with me. She needs a good foundation to start life on. What better reason to enjoy a Sunday Chicken Wing or Sunday Steak or a Sunday Pot Roast?
Choose whether you will do the same gift for yourself every day for the month or surprise yourself. I have a few gifts for myself this month.
1. I am going to sew. It is so fun for me. I love it. So if I don't actually sew, I'm going to look at fabric or patterns or design my own.
2. I am going to read before bed instead of watch tv. It's usually only 15 minutes while I'm waiting on dh, but it's 15 minutes that I could enjoy a good fiction or non-fiction.
3. I am going to keep SONIC ICE in my freezer.
Yay! To a Great New Day!

I'm glad you asked. I was wondering about that!
Feelix, thanks for starting the thread today.
I'm struggling a lot of the time with pre-menopause stuff. So my treat to myself is going to be making time for my yoga practice more consistently. When I'm feeling tired and depressed, it's easy to let it slip, but, of course, that's when I need it most. I'm going to aim for at least five days a week. I know from experience that less than that isn't enough to have a real effect, and more is too easy to miss, and then I end up feeling that since I haven't met the target, I may as well not bother. Five seems to work well for me.
I've done postures and breathing today. I'll do some meditation this evening.

I think you're right about needing it most when we least feel like making the effort. I hope if we all work on it together we can feel like a team and there are others helping us take the step.
I feel very content within myself today, having used music as a ministry this morning. There's lots to do and I got off the treadmill long enough to sit here and connect with the people on this board.
Breakfast was a sausage patty. Lunch was a potluck dinner where I had meatballs, deviled eggs, vegetables, melon and coffee. Dinner will be chicken, most likely.
Heading out to visit with my mother for a while. DS and GS are already there. It's an absolutely beautiful spring day here. I've waited a long time for this! :D

Hi all, I am getting my water in today and have done one set of exercises plus used my resperate (it is a machine I got a year or so ago to help me lower bp by breathing according to tones that slowly grow longer and longer. Since my meditation tape broke I have been using it to relax with and it has been doing pretty good as my bp is still doing well. I think extremely well when I think back to a year ago this time I was taking 3 separate blood pressure meds and now am only taking one.
I am going to be good to myself tonight with a nice soaking bubble bath and tommorow I plan to try and find a new meditation/relaxing tape at the local health food store. If not , I will order one online so it will be here when we get back from the June trailride.

Sonic Ice - We have a drive up fast food chain called Sonic.(http://www.sonicdrivein.com/) They have the best ice - I describe it as pellets. You can buy it for $1 a bag and it makes any old drink wonderful. I can eat it by the cupful. For me, its a special treat and thus, I will keep it around for the month of June JUST FOR ME. DH loves it too so it will not be a problem to have it in the house.
I went grocery shopping today and picked up Breyers Carb Select Ice Cream Bars. Does anyone know if there are other icee treats that are Carb Friendly for the summer?

I love me today :D
Or I did, until I decided one way to show my love would be to actually USE the torture, er ... exercise/resistance machine dh bought and we assembled on was it Tuesday? Since I walk and do stairs, I decided to focus on upper body and I can barely type right now:rolleyes::D it hurts so bad it feels good
and my left arm is weaker than it used to be ... or I should say, there was a slight, but noticeable difference in my muscle strength on the left arm than the right. I did a few extra reps of everything with my left to see if I can bring it up to par.
a nicer way to show my love was buying some new undies yesterday and washing them today with a tropical island scented liquid fabric softener ... I love liquid fabric softeners and I've been "splurging" lately, even though it means an extra wash or two every week, 'cos hubby DOESN'T want to smell like a tropical island:nod:
dh & I also assembled the new pool ladder today ... pool is crystal clear and ready to go in, if just a tad cold still
eating good
eggs for bk
chef's salad for lunch

Felix-I'm not sure I should be suggesting sweet treats but I like Bluebell sugar free Moo bars. I see you live in AL so you can probably get them there too. I don't have any in my house right now.
I'm on call this week so doing nice things for myself is challenging but a reason I need it all the more. I'm taking a nice hot bath tonight. I've gotten into the habit of this quite a bit. I'm out of bubblebath but will make due without it.

Thanks! I'm sure we get the BlueBell Sugar Free Moo Bars here. I spent the first 2 trimesters eating a bowl (or more) of ice cream a day. Stopping cold turkey was hard. Pregnancy cravings are SOO much more demanding the non preggie cravings for me. They make me crazy, so I need something to meet the need. thanks!

Feelix, I can't handle lc ice cream. I usually put frozen berries and maybe some chopped nuts into ricotta cheese. Close enough for me. Although, I have had the greek yogurt (Fage) and I like it a lot.

I'm on call this week so doing nice things for myself is challenging but a reason I need it all the more.I agree that you need an extra layer of protection when on call. Pampering is good!
I didn't get much done today, but I spent lots of time with my mom. She's still in charge, but gets confused sometimes. I'm exhausted! Oh, and I got home to find a message from my cousin to call her. Those calls are usually good for an hour.
See you later!

Ice cream creates cravings for me as well. I find it better not to mess with stuff I can't control. Lately my issue has been whipped cream. I know it's not off limits, but I just seem to eat too much of it.
We went to a birthday party today. My SIL is removing fats and cholesterol from her husband's diet to deal with his cholesterol. She's just so convinced what they're doing is healthy--eggbeaters, fat free cheese and meats and, of course, LOTS of fruit. I'll bet his carb count has doubled since he went fat free...sigh! I tried to explain it, but it's a foreign concept...
Meanwhile, I ate a salad and toppings off the pizza.
Is everyone ready for Monday?

I'm chiming in late as yesterday I decided to love me by NOT getting on the Internet in the afternoon. Instead I watched an absolutely mindless movie I had checked out of the library (Hitchhikers's Guide to the Galaxy). Watching movies is new to me as I just recently was given a TV/ VCR combination. The library has hundreds of tapes, so I'll enjoy one or two a week for years before I run out and have to start over again.
I crashed and burned food-wise. Ate with friends at the Chinese buffet after church and did not make good choices. Obviously not a good way to start a new challenge. :(
My June goals are in my siggy.
My first day of June was bad as well, but it was the last day of my vacation, so I don't feel SO bad...:o:D:p
Last night I stayed up late so that I could get groceries, plan my meals for the week, record my planned food into fitday.com and be prepared to start back on track today.
I am on my final day of vacation, but my food and exercise will be on track starting June 2!!
