A friend of mine told me she wants to start eating this way, and my BS meter spiked. I think the author is Dr Adamo. Anyone familliar with this? I've searched as many online, open acess journals and can't find anything about it (except for a few small articles in Norwegian). I did find a negative article, but it contained no references to actual proof and was written by a big Ornish fan.

I don't believe I have the power to stop her from eating this way unless I can find concrete evidence that it's either "BS" or OK.

I am having a hard time seeing any connection between diet and blood type. Can any of you folks enlighten me? Thanks!

I have a hard time seeing anything in it, too. There's a review (http://www.westonaprice.org/bookreviews/eat_right.html) at the Weston Price site. Of course, they have their own dietary stance - but they're definitely not in the Ornish camp!

Mitra, thank you very much. That was a good article!

Found a couple interesting quotes:

"
Less publicized is the importance of diet. As Loren Cordain, Ph.D. — a proponent of the hunter/gatherer Paleo-Diet has pointed out — cereal grains, legumes, dairy products, yeast-containing foods and other products of the agricultural era all contain lectins that bind intestinal epithelial cells and change the permeability of those cells.17 These are the very foods tagged for elimination in most of the four blood type diets!
Dr. D'Adamo guaranteed the phenomenal success of his book when he told people of Type O, A and B to "just say ‘no'' to all commercially-made breads, bagels, muffins, flours, cakes, cookies, pastas and cereals. Whether made from refined flours or the seemingly healthier version of whole grains, these gluten-containing products injure the gut. Eliminating them from the diet is the first step in giving the injured intestinal lining a chance to rest and recover. In that the three blood types O, A and B represent 96 percent of Anerica's white population and 93 percent of the black population, it's no wonder that so many people have benefited mightily from Dr. D'Adamo's diets.18"

another:

" Why else might Dr. D'Adamo's programs work? It could be as simple as the fact that all four diets eliminate chips, candy, donuts, cinnamon rolls and other junk foods comprised of sugar, wheat, salt, hydrogenated fats, and other known health destroyers. For Americans on the Standard American diet (SAD), adoption of any of the four diets would represent a considerable improvement."

AHA! ;)

I checked a few recipes at his website, specifically desserts, and found that the desserts are much lower in carbs than traditional versions of the same things. No processed grains, etc. However there is a LOT of fructose.

Perhaps it you search for "Eat Right for Your Type" you'll have success.

I thought I read somewhere that only one of the types are low carb

I have the book and it's a fascinating theory. My type is the one that's lower carb, but it has other restrictions that make it very complicated for me to remember what kinds of meat to eat and what kinds not to--that sort of thing.

The same doctor who mentioned the Eat Right For Your Type to me a couple of years ago is the one who recommended PP when I was at my wit's end. I don't know if he follows either one personally, but he seems very disciplined in his eating.
