View Full Version : wacky Wednesday 5/7
Good morning boot campers...
How is your week? Are you still on your game? Got your menu for the day figured out?
I HAVE to be on my game. The doc yesterday told me that when I was put on antibiotics and darvocet and ibuprofen in March, it screwed my body up..hense hives...
So he gave me a diet. It is exactly purist and an herb called Olive leaf Extract. One gallon of distilled water a day. My liver is comprimised and my intestinal tract is not working well. toxins are exiting my skin.
Sheesh. I have had hives for over a month. On probiotics. The diet is even more strict than purist. No fruit. No dairy.Nothing pickled. No mushrooms. No green olives,no alcahol, no bacon or processed meat. no Carbs,no flour,no honey. No yeast. No cheese. No pain meds, antihystamines, drugs of any kind.
meat, salad greens and a little goat cheese. Who would know that antobiotics, darvocet and ibuprofen prescribed by a doctor could do so much harm?
WACKY..

Mornin' Hawk. Sorry it's so rough for you! I hope you have improvement soon!!!
I'm up, awaiting my morning student...and my mind is a BUZZ about so many many things. :D We are going camping this weekend. Unfortunately, the farmers market looks like there is a good chance of a 'wash out' for this evening...so I made no, you know whats. I'm sorta glad actually. I needed the break.
Meanwhile, I'm taking along a 6ft by 4ft piece of plywood to the campground and painting up a landscape scene with a gazebo and an english garden landscape for a float for an upcoming parade we want to have a representation of our parks in. Plus to expose ourselves to the community with the music in the parks/farmers market event advertisement. I'm going to have fun painting (I hope) this weekend while we camp! lol :D I got this idea kinda late....but it will be something we can use many many times..and I can 'add' to the plateform as we progress over the years. I want to make large wood cutouts of hollyhocks that bend gracefully over the sides and make some duck cut outs for the flatbed, and we'll put on a couple of park benches so members can sit on them to toss candy from...and fill in the spaces with planters filled with annuals.
WHAT this has to do with today challenge?????????? I dunno. :o:D
I have so little time I don't know where I'm posting! sorry.
That's ok missy. It's good to see you here. What do you eat when you are camping?

We LOVE cooking on the fire! :D Plus I like to bring along fresh veggies and fruit and keep it simple! Bacon and eggs in the morning...and brats ;) and hot dogs for lunch, and steak and burgers or pork chops for dinner. YUMMY!!!!!
OR depending upon where we camp...we go out! :D JUST like at HOME!! lol :D
It's been awhile since we have camped. I love it. We sold the camper and G'man does not like a tent.I have no problem with a tent. I dislike hotels and if I have to go that way, I'd rather be home. I love waking up with the songs of birds and falling asleep to the sounds of crickets and frogs. Cooking over the fire is my favorite. I just love to watch the fire. We always had the four kids and I felt I had to pack half the world to feed them all.
Have fun painting!

I won't TENT. :o There's only so much roughing it that this girls willin' to do! lol We have it down to a science now. Plus, we can keep some things in the camper with the camper plugged in...so it's not that bad to pack/unpack. My husband loves to camp, so he's very helpful. I like it too, but not as much as he does.

Hawk -- sorry to hear about your hives. I remember from the last time I was here, that you were having a lot of problems with your immune system and was struggling to find appropriate foods that would settle your body down. Prayers that this flare-up will pass quickly.
Camping -- used to do a lot of that, but not in the past few years. Even the State Park campsites have gotten a bit "iffy" for a woman camping alone. But then again, I sort of live in a permanent campsite -- wood heat, no A/C, no dependable running water, sawdust toilet, etc. (hmm -- was going to put in a smiley, but they are not available on the "quick reply".
Have been on track eating-wise since the challenge begun, but even so have managed to gain 3 lbs. that are sticking like glue. It's a bit discouraging as it took me 2 months to lose those 3#s. I thought it was the two glasses of wine I had on Friday, but apparently not as alcohol doesn't stick around that long. All I can figure is since I've started taking niacin my blood sugars are higher and therefore am using more insulin. Oh the "joys" (NOT!) of diabetes.
Will spend two sessions on the Gazelle today to try and lower bs -- perhaps that will help kickstart the losing process again.
Have a great day and rest of the week everyone.

a sawdust toilet? :o I have to ask BC...I have NEVER heard of such a thing.
Yeah, I agree...sawdust toilet??
We camp...a LOT. We were going to do the "drive across the midwest to Mt Rushmore" this year over the week of Memorial Day, but we finally decided last weekend that with gas at $3.50 (or higher) we just can't do it. We had already picked out our campgrounds (even our campsites) and had mapped the trip, calculated hours on the road, marked sites to see...everything.
Now all cancelled because of gas prices...:tear:
Anyway...back to Wacky Wednesday.

Meals are planned and packed, and the rain is gone from yesterday. Last evening the rain made everything so grey and dreary and I allowed myself to get too hungry. Went out to Ruby Tuesdays for supper (LOVE their bison burger-no bun) but went a bit crazy on the salad bar...up 1/2lb. Oh well, my fault...shouldn't let myself get too hungry.
7am 2eggs, 2sausage, 1 toast, 1/2c OJ
10:45 yogurt and almonds
workout
1pm beef alfredo-lash, cucumber, romaine lettuce
5pm 2hot dogs, salad with ranch, 2oz deli turkey
7pm 2babybel, 2 bran crackers, 6oz wine
Pro: 113
Ecc: 43
Fat: 153
Cal: 2247
Been struggling to get my protein above 100...not quite sure what that's about, but I know that by the end of the day I'm CRAZY hungry...might have to get some string cheese for work to eat before I leave so I'm CALMER when it's time for supper...

a sawdust toilet? :o I have to ask BC...I have NEVER heard of such a thing.
Yeah, I agree...sawdust toilet??
We have one in the privy at our cabin. Ours is a seat on a bucket with sawdust in it and each time you use it, you throw in more sawdust. It's odorless and organic. When needed, you can dispose of the contents in a hole and fill in with dirt. The sawdust composts the waste. Our privy smells fresh and clean.
Speaking of gas prices, ours are supposed to go up to 3.90 today. The Geezer says we won't be seeing much of the cabin this summer, as he figured at 2.69 it would take $40 for gas for a round trip. I'm still going to my music festivals, though! I take the pop-up trailer, which is like a tent up off the ground because it has no hookups. It only weighs about 1,000# and you can forget it's attached because it's so light.
I had a protein shake for breakfast and one of the last chicken-bacon salads for the summer. Our cafeteria is closing after Friday. Dinner will be roast beef and vegetables.
I went to a party last night and among all the sweets and saltys there was salad with feta cheese, cranberries, turkey, colby cheese and I ate well. Played music until nine-ish and went home and slept like a baby. :)

Here's an interesting story for you history buffs:
"Most people don't know that back in 1912, Hellmann's mayonnaise was manufactured in England. In fact, the Titanic was carrying 12,000 jars of the condiment scheduled for delivery in Vera Cruz, Mexico, which was to be the next port of call for the great ship after its stop in New York.
This would have been the largest single shipment of mayonnaise ever delivered to Mexico. But as we know, the great ship did not make it to New York. The ship hit an iceberg and sank, and the cargo was forever lost.
The people of Mexico, who were crazy about mayonnaise, and were eagerly awaiting its delivery, were disconsolate at the loss. Their anguish was so great, that they declared a National Day of Mourning, which they still observe to this day.
The National Day of Mourning occurs each year on May 5th and is known, of course, as Sinko de Mayo."

Hi, everyone--
Finally getting to the computer after a hectic day. More drama with student issues today; I'm ready for any normal day at this point.
Okay, Carol, you got me with the joke. Between that and the human cat box, I got a few desperately needed jollies today.
The other high point of my day was getting a crown put on the tooth I broke a couple of weeks ago. Boy--going to the dentist and work stress--could life be any better? :peeved:
So my food today was weird because of my mouth. I had a protein shake for breakfast and nibbled on some popcorn chicken since I figured it was small and easy to chew. It's a bit carby, but not too bad. My supper tonight is already made, but my mouth is really sore--I might just have another protein shake and relax with some ice on my face instead of going to church tonight.
Have a good evening, everyone!

Hi, all,
Peachy, congrats on the weight loss.
Carol, you had me going till the end of the joke.
Saw dust privy? Does sound like a huge cat box.
Ruth, hope your mouth gets to feeling better.
Ammy, congrats on the new laptop.
Hawk, that diet sounds like it will really de tox your liver and get your body back on track. Hope you get to feeling better soon.
Speaking of camping, we love to camp, tent or camper will do. We used our inlaws camper untill it wore out, now it is just tents. We are saving for a camper called a "Casita" that is just so cute. State Parks are our favorites.
Confession time, I have been under some personal stress the last two days, so the emotional eating thing occurred. Just when I think I have it under control, it rears it's ugly head.
Oh, well, back on track today and hopefully for the rest of the week.
Have a great Wednesday, all. Back to relaxation again.

Hey, Anette--
I understand what you mean. Sometimes it happens that if no one's around, there's not much response to posts. I always look forward to when you post and when I don't see you, I wonder how you're doing.
I did notice that you've been struggling somewhat with not seeing results. Hang in there. The results can be very off and on. The first time I did PP, I allowed myself to become frustrated and eventually slid back into a lot of my old habits, regaining a lot of weight on the way. Just focus on the benefits of eating healthy, and the results will follow.

For sure, Max -- cats are a lot smarter than we are at times!
a sawdust toilet? :o I have to ask BC...I have NEVER heard of such a thing.
Sawdust toilets are are wonderful and very environmentally friendly. There is no odor and the only disadvantage is having to empty the bucket once a week. Unlike Carol's, in the system we follow we compost the "deposits". After a year, the compost is safe to use even on the veggie garden. But since guests would probably not be impressed at eating veggies fertilized with humanure, around here the compost is used on the ornamental garden instead.
Even for folks who do not want to use one full-time, it's a great backup for those times when electricity and water are not available. In my former hermitage, an ice storm knocked out electricity (therefore no water from the well) for 6 days. With wood and kerosene heat and a sawdust toilet I did just fine whereas my neighbours on the ranch had to go stay in a motel for the duration.
I could wax eloquent about the polluting way in which we in the Western world handle our bodies' waste and the necessity to conserve water, but it's way off topic for this forum. The rationale behind a sawdust toilet and instructions are available on the web. Actually the entire book, Humanure is on the web:

Hi all,
I know I am not a frequent "poster" but it appears that when I do post, hardly anyone says HI or anything to me. I am not sure why....just noticed that.. does not make me feel too good .. but hey...it is what it is.
I used to feel that way about this forum for the first 6 - 8 months I was a member -- at times I actually felt invisible. I still have this experience on a couple of others I hang out on. I'm naturally introverted and allow myself to become discouraged at what I perceived as a sort-of cliqueish attitude. (This is not a judgement on others rather than an acknowledgement of my personality type). Then I realised that just as in "real life", it was up to me to keep poking until I broke through the natural tendency of folks to form subgroups. One way I did that was to respond to other's comments and to ask direct questions both general questions as well as to individuals. That helped foster conversation in which I was an active participant.
So come and join in and I think you will soon feel more of a part of what is going on around here.

Very well said BC!!
Annette...please don't feel that way, because if you are feeling that way, it's unintentional. This group of people, in my experience, is very non clique'ish. However, because you never know the 'length' of many members participation you don't know how to necessarily 'fit in'. New personalities are ALWAYS WELCOME and if we aren't addressing you specificially, I'm glad you said so. It's, again, unintentional.
As with all situations in life...alot has to do with your own personality, just as BC mentioned. You could be more introverted as opposed to someone, like me, who's EXTROVERTED!!:o
It takes courage for a new, more quiet personality on our board to feel comfortable...but a way to do so is exactly what BC suggested...figure out how to 'interact' by addressing others individually, and asking questions which hopefully the person your addressing will see to respond. IF that person didn't respond, don't take it as though your being ignored...but that it slipped through the cracks with that persons ability to spend time here. They just might have missed it...and it doesn't mean to be taken personally.
WE are a darn friendly group here...and enjoy the personalities that want to belong here too.
You will find others that you relate too, and some, perhaps you won't...but in the end, it's all good. We all have needs.

Anette, I guess if you comment with other, others will comment with you. Questions help. Chat on what others say. Soon, you'll become a "known" face and hopefully, everyone will become "familiar with you". We have all experienced this. But, I found that if I "try to be a friend" I will "become a friend". It's a give and take thing. I try to join in and be "helpful" to others. If someone "like yourself" needs an answer or know something that would help others, it is nice to share that. Also, if you want to keep a journal, there are always people over there who are reading and commenting. They'll get to know you and will respond more if they see you other "places" around here. JMHO!!!! BTW, nice to see you again!

I would enjoy it, BUT this is only a friendly suggestion, IF you felt comfortable..... I would enjoy a Brigit Carole journal in which you COULD use it to 'wax on' about just those things in which you said aren't on topic for this forum.
I think that anyone living the lifestyle that you do is fascinating and admirable. I'd love to hear more...and let us all get a chance to learn about you. But, I'm not pushing, mind you.

Claudette, I love those little (!) things. I actually had put an offer in on one and at the last minute the owners backed out. They knew they had a good thing.
I know I am not a frequent "poster" but it appears that when I do post, hardly anyone says HI or anything to me. I am not sure why....just noticed that.. does not make me feel too good .. but hey...it is what it is.(((Anette))) I don't think it has anything to do with the frequency of posts. Sometimes it might be due to a "noisy" thread and a quiet person is overlooked. Be a squeaky wheel! Somebody suggested responding to other posts or asking a question. Those things work. I post at least once a day just for the business end of it, because I don't want to isolate. Your earlier avatar had your pretty smile on it and I miss that.:)

I am so sorry for how you are feeling. I always enjoy your posts and look forward to "seeing" you.
I have been on this board for several years, it seems to go in "spells" (
as we say in the South) where there are lots of "chatting" and the quieter folks (like me & you) can get overlooked. I agree with BC and try to respond to questions or start a general topic.
"Faces" on the board are constantly changing, so you do get a mix of different personalities.
I do miss some of the moderators that were active when I first started, like Otowa, Billie B, BethB & others. Wonder what they are up too now?
Hang in there and please post often.
Today was:
lc yogurt, atkins shake
chef salad, small plum
few tiny dill pickles
baked chicken, zuccini & tomatoes, sf dark chocolate pudding
On track today.
