View Full Version : Challenge 10-April-08: Getting THURSDAY Done

I have a theory. You get through your week and you get stressed on Friday because of all the stuff you've punted. You work like mad on Friday to clear the desk enough to come back to on Monday and start punting again. You wind up really stressed on Friday, requiring a serious unwind.
I have a new idea. Get everything done on Thursday, then leave early on Friday. We can call it Getting Things Done Thursday. It gives you the margin of error of Friday to mop up loose ends. You really shouldn't do important work when half of your head is out of the office anyway.
To wit, it's 9 AM. I have transferred all of my funds from our slow savings account to our fast one. I set a task for tomorrow to call slow bank and make arrangements for any interest due to us (We're talking .2%... a very like pennies version of interest will be due to us). I also transfered money from my no interest checking into our savings, setting up the transfer and executing it. I left myself enough to be sure anything out there would clear, and will close the account on Saturday, when I go to buy protein shakes (same parking lot). I reworked a memo and distributed for commentary. I got the health brochure for Chicago so I can get to work on that. I'm gonna kick the crap out of my to do list today, so Friday is a leave at 3:30, catch the 4:10 and cook something fantastic kind of night.
So, what's your plan to get Thursday done? What's lurking that you could kill right now.
I'd stick around to chat, but there's a spreadsheet about health insurance that needs putting together.

I'm going to try to get my lesson plans done so that I don't have to do them tomorrow or over the weekend. That will take a load off my mind.

Good morning everyone! Max, in my case the teachers all leave at 2:30 instead of 3pm on Fridays and the boss is likely to leave early, too. That makes it a piece of prime real estate and I cherish the last hour on Friday! Sometimes I use it to get something done and sometimes I just unwind.
However, I will apply your advice to TODAY and try to have all my Photoshop out of the way so I can do something else on my list tomorrow! With the grandblessing scheduled to show up in an hour, this might be tricky. I need to get all the brainwork done before then so I can just push the print button and man the cutting board. Good thought! :)
The first cup of coffee was spent re-reading the insulin sections of PP and PPLP. Breakfast was some left over Italian sausage with a little spaghetti sauce and some provolone cheese. I might do a shake for lunch. Pot roast for dinner.
Morning all!
I will get my month end reports done. I'm almost done, and usually this is not accomplished until the 15th, but I'm ready to put on the final touches, so that is my goal!:D
I dropped 2lbs last night...:suspicious:...after having onion rings for supper...:suspicious:...I'm having a hard time buying it...:suspicious:...can you tell?
Meals are planned/packed. I had a HUGE breakfast. It was SO good!!! A bit too much protein, but it was SO good. I even left some and didn't eat the entire portion, but it was HARD cause...as I've mentioned...it was SO good!!!
OH...bad news...an employee brought in egg rolls and wontons today...LOTS of egg rolls and wontons. I don't particularly care for this employee (it's mutual) so I think I will use that to as my personal excuse to not eat any of the food she brought in. I have had them before, they are an old family recipe brought over from her country and they are REALLY REALLY good...but they're pre-deepfried then reheated in the oven and all carbs (very little filler)...so not something I'm going to have today...do you hear me? I'm NOT going to have any!!!
7am 7.45oz country spare ribs:eek:, 2 slice lc toast
11:30 small salad with egg, cheese, olives, almonds and no carb dressing
5pm 2eggs with cheese, 2slice lc toast
2 sf popsicles

Wellll, I am a seasoned procrastinator. So I'm just putting it all off until I feel better. :)
Okay, I have to ask what NEAN means! Not Even A Nibble? Never Eat A Nematode? North East Alaska Nerds? Help out my drug addled brain! LOL!
And Amy, if she's not fond of you, she may have put in something nasty. Like spit. Or armpit hair. Don't even go there.

Haaaa !!!! Haaaaa !!!! Haaaa!!!!!! (Just think that and those cravings go away fast!!!!)
No temptation at all!!!!
Keep up the good work! congrats on the weight loss! Shook up that 'ole body and it never knew what hit it!!!!!

YEAH...that's it...there's something IN them!! I LIKE it!!
Went to see the Corpse flower yesterday. (Amorphophallus titanum)
I couldn't place the smell until I read the paper this am and someone described it perfectly.
You know when a mouse dies in your house, and you can't find it for a few days? That's what it smelled like...it wasn't good!!
Darn it...she just asked me to come help her get the deep-fried crap ready for everyone...
Now I'm DEFINITELY not going to have any...
It's these things she does that I believe is a tactic to torture me...:peeved:
She knows I don't eat this stuff...well, I'll show her. I can help her and NEAN at the same time!!!!

Okay, I have to ask what NEAN means!
A) Not Even A Nibble?
B) Never Eat A Nematode?
C) North East Alaska Nerds?
D) Not Even an Above Notion?
Help out my drug addled brain! LOL!
The answer is A. Though B might be a good idea too.

If she's trying to manipulate you, it will make it that much easier to dig your heels in, Amy!
We went out for a walk around the arboretum this morning. No rotting mice smells, though. The sun wasn't shining quite as much as the forecast promised, but at least the rain mostly held off (I like taking photos in the rain, but dragging round a wet husband would not have been good ).
Afterwards we had a pub lunch of antipasti (salami with grilled aubergine, courgette &c) then I had salad with scallops and black pudding. So, that will count as my exercise today, and the main meal is done: we'll just get something light and easy tonight.

Thank you for sharing them with me. :D

:o Thanks, Missy. I was pleased with the pine one. It's also interesting to me to see that the ones that looked good at full screen size don't always work as well as the smaller web-photo size, and a different set again look best when you print them. Taking those counts as my "other 20%" quota for today :).

Beautiful photos, Janet!
Friday for me is the chance to wrap up the details so I don't have to think about the classroom all weekend. Peachy, I usually try to get my lesson plans done on Thursday to lessen Friday's workload and so I can give my students a headsup on what's coming for the next week. So, I hope to get my plans finished this afternoon before I go to the college.
Beautiful day here today--the kids are getting antsy.
Food's fine; it's just boring because I only had enough time to cook the basics and not ramp anything up. But I'm determined to stay the course until my next dr.'s appointment (meat and salad, meat and veggies). I did give in to some dark chocolate last night and a couple of bran-a-crisp crackers.

Ah, English Food.
So, Aubergine = Eggplant in the states. Not sure what a courgette. Black Pudding sounds like something from John Donne and the Plague & Fire. No wonder.

It is interesting Mitra just how much a difference those sizes can make! hum....I'll trade ya a MISSY one of a kind....for some Mitra photos?! :D:evil:

Courgette is zucchini. Black pudding, I think is called blood pudding or blood sausage in the US.

Yes, he used a medium format - TLR.
Am I allowed to jump in now?
I picked to learn...Blood sugar numbers. I struggle with blood pressure levels and sometimes it is normal without meds and then sometimes it is up.
So, I wondered if it had anything to do with blood sugar. I bought a Free Style monitor.
I have been sick for a month. Really sick. I had a 102.5 feer for 5 days. I lost 14 pounds.I still have that loss after a couple weeks.
So, then Monday I went out and raked the yard.I came in a sat down after 4 hours and then could not get up. My tail bone lower spine is spasming. I can't bend, kneel, sit. Good thing I have kept doing push ups because my arms and legs do everything the past 4 days,my arms push me up into standing and my legs squat my down to sitting.
I fasted Monday and worked in the yard. My morning fasting blood sugar was 90 on Tuesday morning. (first time I used the monitor) Then I ate dinner on Tuesday night. meat and salad. My blood sugar was 87 on Wednesday morning..Then Wednesday, I ate protien in the morning and had steak and baked sweet potato and a roll and a couple cookies and a banana. ( I ate them on purpose to test my monitor)Thurday morning my fasting morning blood sugar was 109. Does that mean I have insulin resistance??
I am going to keep track of my blood sugar for this month to see what causes it to go up and down and to see if it has anything to do with my blood pressure.
I cannot do any excersize till this quiets down. I am doing some back strengthening and relaxing moves.E-sizes from a book called pain free.
Nice to see you leading this MAx.

Hawk, it's good to see you back. I'm sorry you've been having such a hard time - hope the back exercises are working for you.
Mitra, the three trees looking up is awesome...awesome!!
Yep, that was my favorite as well.
Glad you're back Hawk. You've been missed!!

Not in my opinion, Hawk. Your pancreas would keep producing insulin until the sugar was stored. Read about blood sugar testing on bloodsugar101.com. Also, those glucometers vary widely. If I test on my right hand and immediately test on my left hand there can easily be ten points difference. I have never noticed that my blood sugar had anything to do with my blood pressure. What did your doctor say?

Yay! Amy wins! I hope you bared your teeth... erm... smiled while you helped. ;)
I wanted to share - I am tired of wearing "fat pants". I've been wearing stretch pants since the baby was born. At least I got to put away the maternity panel pants, but still. Anyway, I noticed on Easter weekend that my stretchy pants were a little loose. I finally worked up the nerve to put my non-stretch jeans on. I tried them on in Feb, and I couldn't even get them over my thighs. THEY FIT TODAY!! I'm happy. Even though I'm not losing a lot of *weight* right now, I am getting smaller. It's all good. :)

Congratulations, NaeMo! :D And to you, too, Amy, for beating the eggroll beast! :D
I finally lost the pound I gained last week. I would love, love, love to end this week in the 140s. LOVE. We'll see.
Food today:
Breakfast: breakfast burrito, 1 dark chocolate kiss
Snack: coffee with half and half, peanuts
Lunch: (what else?) spinach and veggie salad with ham, turkey, cheddar; bran cracker with cream cheese and Polaner All-Fruit
Dinner: Wendy's BLT salad with ranch dressing; coffee with half and half
I like coffee. A LAWT. :o
That salad and dressing were high in sodium, and I'm a bit low on water today. Need to drink, drink, drink some more before bed.
Have a good evening!

Good for you, NaeMo! You show that the big W is not everything! There's more to measure than weight and you just did it! :)
Tresses, I've got my fingers crossed for you!
I got the munchies this afternoon and I'm pretty sure it was from eating a whole apple at lunchtime. :o It wasn't very big and it looked so good! That consequently led me to "accidently" consuming more flax crackers and cheese that I should have later on, so I'm high on carbs today myself. That was also full of sodium, and I've been thirsty ever since.
