I have done the PP before, back in 2004 I went from 315 lbs to 245 lbs and I was abel to keep off the weight for most of 2004 and 2005. I then quit smoking and about half way on 2006 the weight was back. On 2007 I tried the Atkins diet but never got in a groove and ended up gaining extra pounds.
I started PP again this February, and so far in 3 weeks I have lost almost 15 lbs. I am pretty excited, but also I am a bit nervous. I have expereincied pain (mostly discormfort) around the area where my kidneys are. I started addign potassium to my diet the third week. The pain still there, it is not very bad but I am gettign worried it could be soemthing else. I know the first advise would be to go to a doctor and get it check out but I was wonderign if anybody else has experienced such discomfort.
My apologies if I am repeatign a post or question. I haven;t figured out how to make searches for old post inhere.

Hiya Downtown:
#1 - the search function is on the blue bar, at the top. It is the sixth option from the right.
#2 - This is really a good question for a doctor. Not so much a bunch of people on the internet.
#3 - While I would hesitate to speculate, I have no real idea what it might be. It's a doctor question with proper diagnostic tools. I know I said this twice, but it bears the repeat.

Downtown, congratulations on the weight loss and welcome to the board! Are you perhaps feeling a muscle that's been strained? That has been my experience in the past.

Welcome. I haven't heard of the pain in the kidney area being a common reaction to low carb diets, so I'm afraid the doctor is all I can suggest there.
The search function is only available to registered and logged-in members. At the time you posted, your membership was still awaiting the approval of an admin, so the search function may not have been visible to you then.

Welcome DT!
I was reading some of the past posts (from about 2-3 months back) and I saw someone else complaining of that problem also. I think it was on 11-29-07. Maybe to read it could help.

I know this isn't the answer you want, but seriously if you think you are having renal (kidney) pain, then you need a work up right now. This isn't something you make an appointment for, this is what the ER is for. You need a creatine clearance, BUN, and protein dip with urinalysis just to start with. If it were me, CT imaging of the kidneys would be on the menu as well.
You could have anything from acute renal failure to an infection to a kidney stone.
If your already in renal failure, a large influx of protein may be enough to make things noticably worse.
Here is a little article on kidney pain:

Seriously don't mess around, this is not a wait and see if it goes away type of problem. (Even if it does go away there still could be a serious underlying problem) Go to the ER or atleast an immediate care facility right now for a work up.
