 Good work with your ticker :D.
I don't know where your snow's gone, but it isn't here. It's cold (by our standards, but just dipping below freezing overnight) and sunny today. I don't mind dark winter weather, but my husband's a lot more cheerful when the sun shines.

Superb, Amy!
Not too sure about my ticker. It seems to be stuck for the moment--but I'm sure it will get moving again.
FINALLY--we have a snow day. I'm sitting in my living room, laptop on lap, heated throw, coffee,...life is good. I already had breakfast (sausage and cheese on Joseph's pita). This is the first snow day of the year. It's not that we have that much snow--just a dusting, but we're supposed to get significant icing through the day.
I want to take a minute to brag on my friend who has started PP. He's doing so well. He committed himself completely to it: got rid of all of the carby stuff in his kitchen, bought healthy food, reformed his cooking, and began reading. He's already feeling better and his clothes are looser. He's about a month into it. It's a great encouragement to me. And...he told me yesterday that a mutual friend (who doesn't have a weight problem) has been told by her doctor to restrict carbs because of her high cholesterol! Amazing--another doctor has seen the light!
Anyway, I really needed this day because I have a ton of stuff to do. So my plan is to get onto some grading that needs to be finished for midquarter reports on Friday. Of course, my lesson plans for the week are messed up, but I don't care.
Hope everyone else is safe and warm!

Back on. I wonder if I should have a ticker again. I think it held me more accountable, but then, it's a little limiting, sig wise (PS, hey Rhyme, you have a bunch of extra spaces after your ticker code. It might be nice to trim them).
Any rate, I'm back. I had a great time while I was home. DW has lost 10 lbs in my absence. I had lost 4. That's gotta be one of the rare ones. At any rate, since we're going on a beach holiday at the end of May (Curacao, here we come), I feel the motivation to be hard core and good again. Lighter than when I went to Italy last year.
Back at work, giving a mock presentation today, so my employers can put it in the regional newsletter that I'm here and giving presentations and doing work.
Any rate, rock on.

Good thing I didn't change my ticker 'cause I bumped up again on the scale. I seem to zigzag more than have a steady loss. Fitday is helping me see the downward pattern and keeping me from getting discouraged.
Max- hope you had a nice birthday weekend!
Rhyme - Today is Lincoln's b-day so I have the day off! Yippee.
Mitra -- wish we had sun here. I sure miss it and am tired of all the greyness.
Ammy -- congrats on your loss! It's a great feeling.
My husband and I will probably go out for lunch today. The question is just to where. We usually go to our secret little Italian place and have pasta. I don't have a clue where to go -- and I seriously don't want another burger.

Good morning everyone,
Amy - Great job on moving your ticker! Doesn't it feel good? :D
Rhyme - to your friend! It's encouraging to have a buddy. Also, to the doc. My dr. told me to eat low-fat, high-fiber for my high cholesterol. I guess I am doing the opposite.
Max - Hope the memories of your weekend carry you through to your next visit home.
Mitra - Have a sun shiny day! (Isn't that a Brady Bunch song?)
Peachy - We are in a grey day today too, expecting rain tonight or tomorrow. I am actually looking forward to it. I parked my car outside so the rain can wash all the yellow pollen off my burgundy car.
Breakfast was a protein shake. I added ricotta and mascarapone cheese to my shake. It tasted great and added protein.
I'm thinking of an LC pizza for lunch.
Dinner - I took out a tip steak from the freezer. I'm wishing for a LC potato, but I don't think it has been invented yet!
My arms are sore from my upper body workout yesterday. Today is lower body and abs.
Have a great day!
Kimmie, it's pretty processed, but there are LC mashed potatoes (http://www.netrition.com/dixie_instant_mashers_page.html)...
They're not TOO bad, just don't eat too much in one setting, they traveled through me pretty quickly when I had 2.5servings one day:eek:.
The other day I decided to be DARING and had a "side" of dreamfields. One serving of buttered noodles with my chicken breast and cauliflower (we called it our white supper). It was such a nice change...I might do it again, but NOT make it a habit!!
Thanks everyone for the back-pats on the ticker slide. I can't guarantee it will stay there since I "zig-zag" as well, but I'm celebrating today cause it was DEFINELY on the weight, no fluxuations while weighing!! 4 times on the same weight! WOOHOO

Amy, I might have to try those next time I order. I don't mind instant mashed b/c I can doctor them up to my tastes. I had Dreamfields the other day with sauteed chicken. I measured out 1.5 cups and it actually made 3 servings. DH had two and I had one. No, I won't have it a lot either.
I weighed out the 4oz uncooked (2 servings) on my new scale :D and my GF was having a fit about how FEW noodles I made.
BUT, when the meal was over, she was satisfied!!
They do grow a little, so it does look pretty small when you first put it in the pan. But one serving seems to do me just fine!
It was such a nice change!

Yay for the ticker, Amy! We don't have your snow. Our visibility was very clear this morning, even though we were driving on packed snow and glare ice most of the way. I'd rather have that than a white-out!
Kimmie, if they made lc potatoes, I'd know about it! :(
Max, nice that you're back. Great that your incentive is back! Happy belated birthday. :D
Ruth, I TOTALLY know how you feel, sitting in your chair. Nothing like it! Thanks for an update on your friend.
Breakfast was a protein shake. Lunch was lc crackers and cheese spread. It was more like a snack, and I'll probably be hungry by quitting time, so I'll have another snack.

They do. (http://tinyurl.com/2x6qko)
Heh, heh, heh.
You can mash it. You can bake it. You can probably deep fry it. And it's white.

You know, back around Christmas, Gaelen mentioned using daikon in the cheesy potato/cauliflower recipe we were discussing. I think she said it had more texture. I've never used or even tasted daikon. Has anybody else?

about potato subs. the Eades have two in the CookwoRx book that are nice one is celeriac ( celery root) steamed and mashed. I liked it pretty well. doessn't taste like potato but it IS creamy, and bland and buttery and was a nice addition to the meal.
the other is to use a puree of cauliflower ( with butter and cream), but add some red potato skins, sauted in bacon grease-- to the mix. I have gone so far as to add ONE small potato as well to a whole head of cauliflower and it really does make it seem very potato-ey.

No on the daikon, as far as I remember. :o
Congrats on your ticker, Amy! :D My ticker finally slid a .5lb in the right direction today. About time!
Belated Happy Birthday wishes, Max! Hope you had a fabulous weekend. :D
Breakfast: 2 eggs, 3 slices of bacon, 1/3 serving of 70% dark chocolate with coffee beans.
Lunch: veggie salad with turkey, ham, and cheddar; 4 wheat thins (It was a fresh box, and I had carbs to spare. ;) )
Dinner: probably the chicken I didn't roast yesterday.
Resistance some time today. Resistance is not futile! :p
Have a good one!
Hey..back when I first started PP (eon's ago), I heard about eating rutabaga's. They're a mixture between sweet potatoes and turnips, no parsnips.
Take one, peel (it's covered in wax, peel through that and the skin off, slice like a potato, fry in butter.
One cup of cooked rutebega is 12ecc...and 1 cup is a lot! YOu could to 1/2 cup with some veggies
Make sure you spell it correctly... rutabaga

We ended up going to a seafood place for lunch. I said no to the MaiTai but yes to fried calamari. Fitday has it at 17carbs so that can be worked into my day. I also had crab claws. It was a terrific lunch with my honey.
They also had some chinese rutabaga mixed in their vegetables. I didn't know how many carbs were in it so I only had a nibble. Not bad. I really don't miss mashed potatoes though. Now low carb granola would make me quite happy.

Hi all, congrats on the scale movement and tickers too gals !! Way to go.
Well, I haven't been having a good time today. It seems that our new roof leaked during all that icy stuff last night:eek::eek:-- in two places !! Not happy at all. It is barely a year old and leaking.
Dh said possible the weight of the ice caused a small sag and allowed water to get thru but there is no way to tell right now of course. I wonder what will happen when it all melts and when it rains hard the next time. Ugh.
We had to move our bed, because it was all wet at the foot , so we had to change covers and etc. Lucky enough I found it before it had actually seeped through to the mattress. The other leak was in our kitchen over the table. I discovered it while carrying the wet bed clothes to the wash room.
Max good for you and dw on the losses also. Not often a woman gets the opportunity to lose more than a man does. Every time I diet, my dh loses more than I do.:confused:

Amy, we have rutabaga a few times through the winter. Ours aren't usually waxed, though. We call them swedes. Well, actually, we usually call them turnips, even though they aren't, but if we want to distinguish them from actual turnips, then we call them swedes. Clear? When I was a child, they were often served boiled and mashed up with carrots, but my husband doesn't like them mashed, so I usually dice them, boil, then toss in lots of butter, salt & pepper. They're nice for giving the feeling of having a starchy vegetable without actually having lots of carbs.
Relief mentioned celeriac, which is another good one, but lighter and not quite so earthy as swede.

Congratulations Amy! Your ticker is on the move!
Welcome back Max! It was awfully quiet around here without you! I hope you and DW had a great time over the weekend! Woo! Woo! to your DW on her weight loss! I agree that the weight usually falls off guys faster than us gals!
I got to move my ticker today also! Maybe not a lot but, I'll take any movement I can get.
We received about 2 inches of snow so far and it is still snowing now! It feels so nice to see the ground all white and pristine. I love to turn on the back yard light and see all the "diamonds" glisten at night. Such a wonderful sight.
Food is on track today!
BF: protein shake
lunch: chicken breast and green beans in bacon and onion
Dinner:? Don't know if I'll be eating a full meal/.
I'm busy frying bacon tonight so I don't have to do it tomorrow morning and delay going to the gym.
I bought a package of Dreamfields lasgna noodles and one of the spaghetti and haven't used them yet! I'll use them later on this week when I get to Kroger and get the Ground Chuck that's on sale for $1.47 lb. and use it in the lasagna. It sound good - I hope it tastes okay.
It is nice to see that everyone is well and talking. We seem to have gotten off to a good start this week. We'll see if it ends up to be a friendly Friday or a Freaky Friday this week! (or some other "F" word - not obscene in meaning!):p:jawDrop::D:exclamation::cool:;)
I hope you all have a safe, happy, warm evening!

I did find a few recipes for cauliflower as a sub. for potatoes and I guess I will have to bite the bullet and try them. I will let you know how they taste. It certainly does not hurt to try.
I made the pizza with the cream cheese/egg/parm/ crust today. I didn't care for it as much as the plain parmesean. I guess I like a thinner crust. I have been trying cheeses to make into "goldfish" crackers. We are all enjoying these. My DS said they are better than cheez-its.
Steak and broccoli for dinner. If it is not raining in town, DH is bringing home mushrooms to saute.
We are getting ready for some wicked storms tonight. Love the rain!

Man the shovels, more like! ;)
No workout tonight. I made it home without getting killed and driving four miles back to the fitness club didn't seem too smart. Tomorrow's supposed to be better.
I need to get to the meat market. My meals are screwed up. So far I've had bacon and carrots for dinner. My afternoon snack was a cup of cheese broccoli soup, which was probably a carbfest.
sure wish I had to man the shovels!!! :(
Still just cold here.
Wanted to report my food changes today.
I threw in an egg before my workout, and had a bunless bacon cheeseburger for supper, and a salad with cheese, tomatoes, and 1/4c croutons.
Shockingly, the cherry tomatoes on the restaurant salad were VERY yummy!!

Back in KC, freezing cold. I don't have a thermostat in the apartment. It keeps heat around 67 or so. If it get real cold (like yesterday and today) it gets colder.
Of course, it's plenty cold back in DC too. Cold enough to drain the battery on our car back home. DW is having trouble with it.
