HI,

I have been thinking aobut swtiching over to coconut oil for frying, as I understand that it isnt the best to use olive oil for frying.

I am wondering if anyone has any thoughts on use coconut oil for cooking and also wondering where a good place is to order it from. I am consider the stuff from tropicaltraditions site, but they have 4 different kinds, in which the prices vary greatly, expreller pressed, hand made, etc.

Thanks

Jamie

netrition.com sells several versions.

You probably want the Extra Virgin. I don't know that you care about how it's pressed/expelled, but you might. But you want the first pressing.

You probably want the deodorized. If you get it with the odor, everything you cook winds up smelling like coconut. This isn't necessarily bad, but there's a time and place for coconut flavor, and it isn't in everything I fry (hot wings with coconut undertone is not good).

i prefer the un-deoderized extra virgin expeller pressed. i'ts the most healthful. yes it does smell and taste like coconut--great for coconut shrimp. I think the deoderized has a real funky flavor--not pleasant to me.

when I want no taste i go for palm oil instead. similar fatty acid profile. look for spectrums zero trans fat shortening ( they even have it at my safeway now) read the label--pure palm oil.
