Good morning :).

After an over-indulgence at dinner yesterday, I'm back on the straight and narrow this morning . I started the day with a kefir smoothie, and I've had my morning coffee. I don't know yet what the other meals will be, but there's plenty of legal food on hand. We usually have sausages for dinner on Friday.

Thank goodness it's Friday. This week has been so long to me. I will be relaxing tomorrow -- except for the working out, laundry and the regular family things. But I won't have to use an alarm clock. Any day without an alarm clock is a good day.

I am all set for the day. Breakfast was a protein shake, lunch is a salad with boiled eggs and some cantelope, snack is ricotta cheese, dinner will probably be the cheese off a pizza. It's a good day for sure.

And a pound of that 1.5 pounds that appeared out of nowhere is gone. Hopefully it came right off my belly. It's freezing cold here, so I'm off to drink some hot coffee and get working. Have a great day.

Good morning!

Peachy and Mitra, sounds like you're planned and ready for the day.

We had a two hour delay this morning, so I'm finally settling down with my computer as my students are beginning to roam in.

I'm planning to eat a bit light today--I just feel I've been overdoing it the last couple of days. Not off plan, just a little more than I've been eating. I think the last straw was the few nibbles of rice pudding I was making for my husband. I haven't been doing that and don't intend to start now. As Carol said, it's not the carbs, it's the principle.

So here's the plan--
Breakfast--chocolate protein shake (done)
Lunch--Cabbage soup
Supper--orange protein shake
Snack--15 almonds (Amy, I'm trying to regulate how many I eat; thought I'd start with your number)

My day should go quickly since I only have to teach three classes and babysit a study hall. Then we have b-ball games in our gym, so I'll be home about 9:00.

The day is off and running.

One habit that I am trying to establish is to make it a priority to get two things done at work and one thing away from work each workday. Today, I want to format this spreadsheet for my project (this sounds small, it's currently running to 40 pages though, so we're talking a couple hours, minimum) and either figure why my new portable HD isn't working at home or spend 1 hour doing job search stuff (from experience... it's better to search while employed, rather than when you need to).

I think I'm going to the movies after work, if the timing works out properly. That might mean dinner out. Otherwise, it's home for some broiled scallops (wrapped with pancetta, maybe). Part of another effort of mine, to eat more seafood, which is a challenge since I don't really eat any fish, but do eat shrimp and scallops (learning) and used to eat squid until I decided I had moral issues about eating smart animals. Here I am, an omnivore leaning towards carnivore, who will eat the meat that many vegetarians shun, but I won't eat octopus, squid or cuttlefish on moral grounds, while "beady eye" vegetarians will. I'm confused.

Back at work today, then three day weekend, then back to work again. It's going to be cold and maybe snowy. I'm so looking forward to taking public transit on holiday schedules, in the snow to get out of the apartment this weekend. *sigh*

Max,

How much longer are you in exile? And does that mean you're completely alone for the long weekend? Just curious--solitude really bothers some folks; others actually enjoy it.

I agree with you there, Peachy.

Good morning, Janet!

I started off with a strawberry protein shake and two large coffees over the course of the morning. I'm planning on a cup of chili with some sliced cheese for lunch because I'm going to a fundraiser luncheon. If I find someone made lc soup or stew, I might change. I have a couple of sausages left over from last night's meal for backup.

My music party tonight has been cancelled due to illness. Poor me! Plus, my friend from downstate is ill and won't be at the jam tomorrow. That takes some of the fun out of it for me. We were going to meet early at a great Mexican cafe. Poor, poor me! Plus we've got a winter storm warning for tonight and ending Sunday with arctic temperatures. Oh, woe! :jawDrop:  :D :p

I'll have some extra time to put our library into boxes. Remodeler will be here in a week or so.

Carol--sounds like a lovely weekend . :crybaby: At least you have a project to keep you busy. And remodeling is a good thing, right?

My supper last night was all screwed up (decided to go out) but I did great...turkey burger, no bun, salad with egg/bacon/cheese/edamame/ranch, but I did have a bit of the broccoli salad with that sweet dressing...just can't help myself.
I also had one bite of mashed cauliflower.
I'm glad that this restaurant has mashed cauliflower, but it makes me nauseous...had one bit and gave it back...couldn't eat any more...and I LIKE mashed cauliflower, just not here???!!!

Anyway, my scale had a 2lb jump this am, but I was waiting for it. When my weight is dropping every day, I have a day where it jumps back up (this has been true the entire time I was losing all my weight), so I'm not at ALL freaked out about it...
We'll see what tomorrow brings.

Today's food:

7am 2eggs, 2.5oz turkey taco meat, cheese, sour cream, salsa, 1/2 grapefruit
11am Pilates
12:30 LC lasagna, 1/2 head romaine
3:30 or 4pm 2oz veggie cheddar, bran crackers
6pm chicken breast, mixed veggies, dreamsicle pie

Pro: 151
Ecc: 40
Fat: 118
Cal: 1942

my fat and calories seem so high...but the dreamsicle pie is showing cal of 402 and fat of 28, but I used Neuf..neus...that cream cheese that is 1/2 the fat, so I know they are exaggerated numbers.
Still, under 2000, so I'm good.

OH, I broke out my new stove-top expresso pot yesterday (found a little $5 number at Marshalls). THought I'd start making my own iced latte's...
It wasn't bad...well, let me rephrase that...it SMELLED like it was burning and I was concerned that it would TASTE burned, but it didn't...wonder if I just left it on the fire too long?? It said take it off the fire when the sound stops, but I never heard a thing???
Anyway...it worked great. It makes one shot of espresso, so a small iced breve, but it was satisfying! Now if I could just find a sf syrup I'm happy with. I hate it when the vanilla tastes like ice cream cone!! YUCK!

Good morning/afternoon! I just ate breakfast about 30 min. ago b/c I had to type some estimates and bills and then drop them off to customer and hubby. Took the kitten to the vet to get her stitches out from being spayed. Went to the bank and came back home. Didn't have time for b/f prior to that, just coffee and water. I had leftover meatloaf and two roast beef roll-ups with cream cheese, horseradish, and pepper. No idea what for lunch yet, maybe some chicken and orange dreamsicle dessert. Dinner is steak and lobster (we catch our own in the Keys!)

I know I shouldn't complain about the cold, but it is getting colder here by the minute. It's already in the mid-60's and I am freezing, my hands are like ice right now. It is supposed to get down to the 20's by Sunday. Will have to turn the heater on soon.

I have tap class this afternoon, which will account for some activity. Probably do some weights later this evening which is usually when I work out. I also want to get through more of the book I am reading because I have new books backed up right now waiting to be read.

Hope everyone has a great day!

Got my resistance done already today. GF and I started going in to a local shop that has a few machines for us to use. We plan on going every other day and that will help me a lot as I always dread the resistance exercises. It is a lot better with some one to share the experience !!

Just made some broccoli soup with cheese, butter, chicken broth, and Hood milk . Boy it was good. I was afraid it wouldn't have enough protein but it had 25 gr. so what more can I ask. It was high fat and high calories but hey we don't worry about that, at least too much. Dh really did like it a lot so it is a keeper. I was just so starved for a nice bowl of hot soup on a cold day like this and it hit the spot.

We plan to go out to eat tonight and I will probably have a nice big grilled chicken salad for my meal. That sounds good too.

Be back to check on everyone later. Have a good day.

I just got back from working out and I was so hungry I was shaking...
Usually I have some kind of snack before I go, but I just wasn't hungry today, but next time, I will have something whether I "want" it or not.

But I did it...another week of getting in my exercise!! Woohoo!

Oh, one more thing.
I weighed at the gym and it always syncs with my home scale by 1lb...today it sync'ed with my weight from yesterday by 1lb which just reinforces that my "jump" in weight this am is probably a fluke...

Max,

I go home for a weekend on Feb 8th - 11th, then back here through March 7th.

The solitude doesn't bother me that much. It's the inactivity. When I first moved to St. Louis and then dumped by girlfriend, I had pretty much all my time to myself. I did okay. But I had a car. Midwest (outside of Chicago) - car = hard times.

Exile is a fun way to think about it. I guess.

Hey, Max--

Enjoy the movie and dinner (I don't know about squid being intelligent, but I can't bring myself to eat anything with tentacles!). Hope the rest of your weekend goes quickly. Thank goodness for cell phones and internet! Can't say much for public transportation.

I kind of like being alone myself sometimes, but I'm sure extended periods get long.

KimmieB,

I wish I had your temperatures. I'm about 50 miles from the Michigan border and around 30 degrees. Wind chill is at 12. Tomorrows' high is 12 with wind chill at -12 to -25 degrees. ;):D:razz::slywink:

I bet gitfiddle in Michigan is even colder!

Yum - Yum! Lobster! Wow girl - fly me some here. I love lobster! Lucky you!

Max, any movie in particular you're going to see? I haven't been to a movie in ages since we have on-demand movies. Plus, I'm a sucker for the smell of popcorn, so I stay away. I was practically raised on popcorn. We grew it every year!

I agree--60's doesn't sound bad at all. But it has warmed up to 40-ish here today, so that's also not bad. Tomorrow we're supposed to see temps plummeting.

My totals for the day--

Calories--1622
ECC's--27
Fat--112
Protein--129

I plan on not snacking this evening. I'll be busy anyway--no time to snack! ;)

Max, if 'smart animals' are out, then that kind of rules out quite a few carnivore foods...pork, for one (pigs are quite smart), and goose (I love goose, and yes, they are smart and can be vindictive).

I can't make my food choices based on presumed or discovered intelligence. I have to go on something simpler, like "what does it cost per pound and how many servings are in that pound?"

That's me, the fiscally-motivated 50% meatless girl. ;)

A day without an alarm clock...oh, yes.
I'm working on a piece for Cure magazine about alarm clocks, and my tendency to wake up a few minutes before they go off (most days) and how my iPod alarm clock radio compares in efficiency to my four-legged alarm clocks. Funny that alarm clocks should come up today; I worked on the piece for three hours last night (well, this morning) when I couldn't sleep.

That's right...couldn't sleep. I've gone from exhausted and falling asleep at work to only being able to sleep for 5-6 hours a night. I'm not getting any uppers or steroids on this treatment, and haven't had any caffeine in weeks. But 2:30 a.m., there I was, wide awake. I learned a long time ago that if I can't fall back asleep by meditating for a few minutes, I might as well get up and do something until I feel sleepy. This morning, I just wrote and never really felt sleepy. Now, it's 4:30 and I'm sure tonight will be a relatively early night...but that will start the cycle of too-early wakefulness. Argggh!

Food today has continued to be iffy. I will need to make something tonight to get in more protein, but the Xeloda tends to promote temporary lactose intolerance, so my protein shake protein hit won't work and I don't feel quite up to solid food. I will think of something, but not quite sure what yet.

I've managed about 3 oz. of rare shaved thin slices of roast beef, and about a cup of italian sausage in 1/4 cup of light tomato sauce with some parmesan cheese and about 1/4 cup of cooked whole wheat mini-shells.

On the bright side, while the GI symptoms haven't let up, being off the Xeloda for a couple days means that I'm not nearly as weak today as I was any of the previous treatment Fridays. I even took the dogs for an abbreviated walk...shorter than normal, yes, but at least they didn't have to ex on tie-outs and flexi leads. I almost hope that they continue to hold the Xeloda, although I know results appear improved when you take it with radiation.

Anyway, that's been today so far. I may be able to make some more shredded chicken and rice soup for dinner; that's starting to sound good and at least I'd get my protein minimum in. Take care all!

We ended up eating late because my husband was caught up in the sort of stuff that always seems to crop up on Friday afternoon!

For lunch we finished the crustless quiche with some salad and an oatcake. (My foodie husband who'd hated the idea of messing with a classic recipe like quiche actually liked it so much he thought it would make a good starter to give to visitors, being a bit lighter and dressier than with pastry!)

I had a small ricotta pancake with crème frâiche and orange compôte when I realised dinner would be delayed. Then sausages and cabbage for dinner.

I spent a good chunk of the day chopping Seville oranges and standing stirring marmalade, and my back still doesn't like standing for long periods, so it's a bit twichy now, and my knee is aching, which I know isn't really a knee thing, but something referred from my back. I hope a night's rest will sort it out. Now I just have to find someone to take all the marmalade off my hands . I like making it, but I never ate that sort of thing even before I started PP. We can use a tsp here and there, and the odd jar for when we have visitors, but we won't use all of it - and I still have some left from previous years (even though I didn't make any last year).

Well, it's 7pm on Friday night and I'm still at work...
I am getting close to being done, but it will be at least another hour.

I just had my snack, cheese and turkey pepperoni on bran crackers.
Supper will be when I get home...if I'm not too tired.

Sigh...this accounting stuff can really suck at year end...

Back to the grind.

Hi all...back again.
Well, got my protein minimum in, barely--around 70g. Close enough. A co-worker dropped off homemade turkey meatballs (just parsley, thyme and turkey with a bit of egg to bind them; she knows I watch carbs and that my stomach is touchy.) They are like mini-meatballs, so I heated them in some broth and am calling that dinner.

Say what we will about doctors, when I got home, I had a voice mail from my oncologist. This is the local one, who is a terrific guy. Make no mistake--this guy sees as many patients as Dr. Personality in NYC, and he's not a saint--but he has called me on my cell phone after he found out that I'd been admitted to the hospital (he was out of town, presenting at an ASCO conference when I had a stroke symptoms during treatment.) Anyway, he's very concerned, wanted me to know that the radiation therapists and nurses had let him know I was still having GI symptoms, and wanted me to be sure to call the practice hotline over the weekend if things get any worse. Then he said he'd check in on me Monday while I'm getting my bloodwork.

Some docs really *are* good at the doctoring part.

We certainly can't tar them all with the same brush. I have great affection for the one who made me aware of PP.

I bet gitfiddle in Michigan is even colder!
Ya shure, you bet! I have MSGQ and Bellgirl up here for company. Amy's the one who gets the prize this weekend. My CAR wouldn't RUN in Minneapolis today! Amy, do you put blankets on your engine and plug them in the parking meters in your neck of the woods?

Mal, our blood is probably a lot thicker than yours is, poor girl. When my boy came up here from Ft. Meyers in the winter, he'd start shivering by the time he got to Indianapolis and never warm up until he got south again. He's in Texas now. A heat-seeker.

My dinner was a hamburg patty with melted cheese and sauteed mushrooms plus a piece of chocolate (5.5 ecc)

Weather permitting, I've got a music jam in a neighboring community tomorrow. If they can get the roads clear by noon, I'm going. Salt doesn't work at low temps, so we'll see.

Good night, y'all!

We certainly have been know to plug in our cars, but I haven't owned a plug for awhile now.

I left work at 9pm last night. My car was in a parking ramp...semi-enclosed, but was not parked anywhere near any openings...
My car grumbled and moaned, but started right up.:D

When I first moved here from college I had a 1989 ford escort (it was 1994). With wind chill it felt like -70 the day I needed to go looking for apartments. I went outside at 9am on a business day and was confused to see so many cars in the suburban neighborhood I was staying it...I had no idea all these newer more expensive cars refused to start - even some parked in a garage.
I was a bit concerned, but went to my old rust bucket, and it started right up...hummmed like a baby!! Gotta THINK when living in places like MN...gotta think about what to put in your gas tank to keep it from freezing, and gotta not buy cars made in warm places where they have no idea how to build a car for winter...severe winters!
We talked about winter camping this weekend...but -19 actual temp this morning dissuaded us. Fine, call me a wimp:p.
