It will not do to leave a live dragon out of your plans if you live near one.
The Hobbit
J.R.R. Tolkein

Good Morning Everyone!

It seems like the schedule for my boys gets me up and going early, so instead of being a passive participant, I've decided to initiate!

So, my thought for today stems from Gaelen's reminders about sticky situations.... Planning. I love this quote by Tolkein because it really deals with sticky situations and making a plan.

What's your live dragon? Left overs? Ice cream shops:)? Kids who love Mac and Cheese? After holiday let down? Stress of...you name it?

And then, what's your plan to deal with it? My dragon is usually a combination of boredom and stress. I've decided to be honest and about it. My plan is to post what I eat. Get on the boards when I want to eat. Make a phone call. Or, better yet for me, pull out a game and engage the boys in activity!

The dragon's are always going to be there. And, I'm tired of staying inside to avoid them, or worse giving into the fear. I'm planning for my dragon and I'm gonna slay it!

Have a great PP day!

Where in the world have you been hiding these past months?? These posts are great !! You go girl !!

I admire your attitude of intiating instead of being a passive participant, that's a great plan of action.

My dragon is resistance exercise. I keep draggin' my feet (sorry couldn't resist) with it, although I know it would benefit my bp. and my bones and stress levels.

However, in the interest of "just do it " per yesterdays thread--I did start today. Did upper body and later I am going to do lower body. I'm going to slay my resistance to resistance or else !!

Oh, Kathy, I love the quote! I'm a Tolkein fan. I identify with Bilbo more than with Yoda!

Your "dragon" is my "sleeping tiger", but the rest is interchangeable. Compulsive eating is what I am always on the alert for. Even if the food is on-plan, I have to notice if I'm stuffing it compulsively or merely taking nourishment. Emotions want to control it. For example, if I'm in an uncomfortable social situation and I eat a plate full of on-plan hors d'oeurves when I'm not particularly hungry, that's compulsive. It's trying to make the situation go away instead of facing it. If I don't keep watch it will soon become a habit.

Back to the old grind today. Breakfast was about two ounces of roast beef rolled up in Amish swiss. Lunch will be a square of breakfast meatloaf and a can of V-8 juice. I'm not sure what dinner will be. Can you tell I'm not very organized today? ;)

You all are too kind.

Karole - I've been around. I'm just shy. ;) Actually, I've been struggling with what to do with food, and recently I made a decision to give PP an honest try. So, I'm honestly trying.

Carol - You're funny. I'm not a Yoda fan, either. I just liked the quote. And, truth be told, I don't really like the Lord of the Rings series, but I LOVE the mind of Tolkein. He has some good one. And, this quote just makes me smile:D. I think it's the tone I use while reading it in my head. :)

OH, and I love what you said about compulsion. I am so there! I eat just to eat and I'm trying to fight that. Since I've started this "honest" try, I've noticed I've switched to coffee/tea for my compulsion. But that's not good either because it's still compulsive eating! Oh, where's my sword!

The rest of the morning, I've been cleaning. Must get back to "normal"!

Breakfast: 2 eggs and 4 slices of Bacon
Lunch Plans: Protein Shake and Hamburger with cheese and mushrooms. (40 g of protein is a lot. rRRRRR)
Dinner Plans: Chicken - Indian in the Crockpot already!, Green Leaf Lettuce w/feta and some dressing, Cauliflower and cheese. (Rice on the side for the men)

And, if I get the urge to snack -- 1/4 apple for the crunch and a cup of tea:rolleyes:, but only 1!

Hi Shadow!

Now, where is everyone else?

Hi Kathy,

You nailed it. Taking on the dragons is an heroic task.

We let things slide a bit during the holidays, not going whole hog, but we did have a couple kinds of cookies that we particularly like and some relatively low carb crackers. We took the initiative this morning. The leftover gingerbread came to library and put in the coffee area and the leftover crackers will go in the trash this evening. There's part of a stollen that we were given still there, but we didn't pitch it in case our overnight guests who were leaving after we left for work wanted it for breakfast. What's left when we get home will go in the trash this evening. Once that is gone all that will be left of the celebrations will be 2 pieces of low carb pumpkin pie and 2 pieces of low carb cheese cake.

My dragon is procratination... Let's KILL him. Kowabunga!!!!!!!!

I decided not to miss a work out and will do it even if I need to at 11 pm so I won't miss. Why do I wait till the last possible moment when getting her done at 6 am BEFORE the rest of the day starts, so I can have the best part of my day over and be done with it??

I have had my scrambled eggs today
I plan on venison taco salad left over from yesterday
venison and vegetable soup tonight for dinner
cottage cheese for a snack
Lots of water.

I love Tolkien too. I had a dacshound named Baggins. My sister has a chihuahua(hairless ugly one) named Gollum(sp)

Hello everyone!

Was off-plan during Christmas. Went from 201 to 208. Back on plan December 31 and January 1. Down to 203.6 this morning. It's mostly water weight but a little is fat and will take longer to come off. I'd be thrilled if I could get back to the 201 mark before my January 19 vacation.

Feeling happy that I enjoyed Christmas eating, and mentally ready (excited, looking forward to, not feeling negative anticipation of deprivation) to recommit to PP compliance.

I remind myself often that I have no goal other than to be in control of my eating. Scale-watching is fun, but it won't control me. Whatever happens with my weight will happen. I am in control of my eating, and I will eat with 100% compliance from January 1-18 and 30-31, and I will enjoy myself eating freely (but not like a person with an eating disorder) from January 19-29. Whatever weight I gain will come off, sooner or later, in February as I eat well again.

I made a cauliflower mash souffle thing the other day (mashed cauliflower with cream cheese, and then stirred in a couple beaten eggs and some shredded cheddar, baked for 20 minutes). Good and a nice base for the chicken/sausage stew thing I also made (chicken, italian sausage, mushrooms, cream, eggs - a little carbonara like only with chicken instead of pasta).

Today:
cottage cheese and frozen berries
lc frozen dinner with extra chicken
remainder of cauliflower mash and carbonara stew

I will be exercising today as well. Upper body and HIIT training, followed by a lovely hot tub with my sweetie! I'm looking forward to that.

I agree, MSGQ, where have you been, girl? That is a fantastic post.
Thought provoking.

My dragon is emotional eating, "just this one tiny bite won't hurt" thinking.
I am always a step away from it if I don't watch it.

Today, I got up late, so will exercise before dinner tonight.

Meals are planned and I am eating them.

B: whey protein in hood chocolate milk, fiber, buttered toast
S: celery w/ T organic peanut butter
L: black eyed peas, 1/2 c, (left over, I love them, so I will adjust my carb intake), ham, few cherry tomatoes
S: oz mixed nuts
D: chic breast stuffed /w/ ham/asiago cheese, tossed great salad, sf jello

Will edit later.

Great to see you, Shadow!

Hugs,
Claudette

afternoon everyone!

I think I have more than one dragon ... need to think on it a bit.

making it another great day.
Breakfast - 2 eggs, hard fried, 2 slices of bacon.
Lunch - more home made shrimp salad and a large romaine salad on the side with 1 tsp of ranch dressing.

Ooo, I thought of another dragon...

I don't plan for supper, or if I do, I don't follow THROUGH with my plan. If my GF suggests we eat something that is higher in carbs, I-without even THINKING-agree! Why do I do that??????
Then again, why as why?
Now that I have admitted the problem-I'm a fool if I let it happen again!:peeved:

In the dragon-slaying mode today, are we? Cool! I love Tolkien (and I got a charge out of the chihuahua named Gollum )

My dragon, like Carol's, is compulsive eating, especially of the mindless type. I need to have the hunger-food link active in my brain instead of the bored-food, stressed-food, tired-food links.

Over the weekend I found myself eating more than I have been. It's not that the choices were awful, but just that I don't like that behavior. So today I'm letting my body rest from that until late afternoon/evening. Then I plan to finish up my leftovers (turkey and cheesy cauliflower) and plan out the next few days. I did bring a wrap (roast beef and cheddar) in case I'm so hungry by the time I leave school that I'm tempted to eat whatever's handy.

Here's to dragon-slaying!

HEY...it's WACKY WEDNESDAY!!!

Pulled some of these from a diet humor website (http://danworona.50megs.com/about.html) by Dan Worona.

MY BODY IS A TEMPLE, WITH AMPLE PARKING IN THE REAR.

TASTE MAKES WAIST.

DIETING IS THE PENALTY FOR EXCEEDING THE FEED LIMIT.

MY NEW DIET GOAL: TO WEIGH WHAT MY DRIVERS LICENSE SAYS.

Ouch, Amy, I don't expect to ever see my drivers license weight again. My only consolation is that my hubby thinks I was too thin way back when I weighed 119 pounds.

I forgot to put my menu as I know it when I posted earlier.

Breakfast: protein shake
lunch: 4 oz turkey, Greek yogurt, almonds
snack: sensible cake
Dinner: ?? probably venison of some sort, brother in law got a deer and shared the wealth. I'm not sure what veggies to go with it.

Me, too! Only my "dragon" is LUNCH. It is sooo easy for me to start nibbling on the lunch I make for the boys that I just do it. Ugh. I'm pretty good at planning breakfast and dinner, but I wing it for lunch.

And, Amy, you're right. "I'm a fool if I let it happen again!" :jawDrop:

Ouch, Amy, I don't expect to ever see my drivers license weight again.

I would LOVE to actually SEE the weight on my driver's license, and for it to not be a "fictional number I think I can get away with"!!

Actually, I bypassed my fictional DL weight once, when I was losing the large part of my weight. When I told them my weight was 280, I was actually 320 - I had lied 40lbs, but once you're over 300, 40lbs is NOTHING to lie about!!:p
At this moment, I'm off my DL weight by 23.5lbs.
I gave my CURRENT weight when I got my DL, but I actually made a special trip to the DL office so I could renew my card and put on the weight I was at the MOMENT! :o

Normally I'm over by 14lbs from my DL weight...that's not bad, right????

WakefieldWendy
01-02-2008, 02:37 PM
My DL doesn't have a weight, although it has a height, which is accurate. I am lighter than I was in the photo, however, but heavier than in my security pass for work.

Ammy
01-02-2008, 02:43 PM
That's what the US should do as well, take off the weight. People rarely give their real weight anyway!!!
Did you have to give a weight when you applied and they just don't report it ON the DL or do they simply not want to know??

WakefieldWendy
01-02-2008, 03:11 PM
No, they don't ask for weight in Ontario. They take your photo and they ask for height. Weight is so variable, I guess they figure, why even include it.

AAAUUUUGGGGHHHH!! I'm having a meal snafu!

The chicken indian dish I was supposed to have has turned out ... awful. Actually, it is a dish from a cooking exchange club I was in, and the smell has bothered me all day. Then, I asked a friend what she thought of it and she said they had to throw it out. The smell bothered her too!

So, now, I have no plans for dinner.:eek::eek:

I'm panicking. DH is calling me when he gets out of work. If we can figure out a restaurant, we'll do that. (I just hope the person who exchanged that meal NEVER asks me what I thought!

We have height but not weight in PA as well (thank goodness!).

In planning for the rest of my week I visited allrecipes.com and found a recipe for green chile stew with pork. Looks yummy and has 7.5 ECCs and 37 g protein. Sounds like the recipe for me!

I need something warm to eat. The wind chill is about 20. Sorry, Amy--I saw it was a balmy 7 in Minneapolis.

I did upper body weights and then went out and shoveled out a foot of snow off my car and out of the front of our house where we turn from the drive into the garage. Hubby is out with the snow blower doing the rest of the parking pad and the driveway out to the highway. I'd have been shoveling all day!

More wacky Wednesday...

Desserts are behind me...

A moment on the lips ...forever on the hips...

Today I hope my written plan has slayed all my dragons. I plan to write down the times that I work out . Just to make me accountable to my procrastination.

dinner was pork chops, "fried" in a grill pan with a little olive oil,
large salad with greens, radishes, and a couple of olives
(extra water at dinner, 'cos obviously I'm craving salt)
veggies

just spent an hour with our Annie - but now I'm fighting exhaustion and a massive headache.

msgq - if the person asks - you should tell them the truth. I get sick just smelling certain Indian dishes, too. I think it's one of the spices. One of the few ethnic restaurants I won't eat in anymore.

I think my dl has a weight on it, but I'll look tomorrow if I remember. If it does, though, it's like height and eye and hair color - it never changes. I tried to correct mine where it said corrective lenses (I used to wear glasses). Had a vision test right there in mv and they noted it and got my new license with the same horrible picture with the retched pinky gold plastic frames and corrective lenses needed on it. So, if they won't correct that, let them think I still weigh what I did when I was 23:D.

checking in here. If I dont post very early in the am, i can't all day. So here I am, still on PP. Just got the PPLP book and have been reading it. My food is ok. Over the last few days I have had a few more carbs then usual due to more veggies so I need to watch out.
My dragon is mindless eating and eating just for the sake of having something to chew on, like when i watch tv. i have to be very mindful of those situations. When we go to the movies for example.. no popcorn but i packed some nuts instead. Still, why do I/we have to eat when we want to watch a movie? go figure. My food today was as follows
breakfast: cottage cheese with sf jello, 1oz whipped cream:D and some toasted slives almonds
lunch: ham/egg salad with mayo, 1/2 cup mustard greens with a wee bit of butter
dinner: 4oz ground beef seasoned and fried with some onions, 1.5 cups mustard greens with some butter, 1/2 oz Lindt extra bitter chocolate.:D
snack 1.5 oz cheddar cheese
I may not post every day, but I read the posts every single day. so thanks to everyone for posting and keeping me focused.

Well, I'm calling it a day.
I'm tired and worn out, but feel good.

I ate what I said for supper, but wanted something sweet so added 2 no carb crackers with brie cheese and 2Tbsp low sugar apricot jam (12ecc:eek:), and 6 sugar free Nips (all sugar alcohol which doesn't bother me).
So, overall I had 40ecc, but that's okay, as long as I didn't go OVER 45 I'm good, and I didn't!!

I also went to the gym. I did 25min on the upright bike. It's been awhile since I worked out, so I didn't want to overdo it. I worked a bit harder than fat-burning, but not quite to cardio heartrate.

good night all.

Just checking in. Dinner wasn't as planned. Instead it was scrambled eggs with leftover shrimp, cheddar cheese, and pepper jack cheese, then topped with salsa.

I did 35 minutes on the treadmill (about 1.6 miles).

My dinner turned out to be hot wings with some ranch dressing. Later I had some almonds with 2 squares of Ghirardelli 72% chocolate. I like that combination. I didn't do the numbers. I slept in my chair for an hour and now I'm on my way to bed.

Have a good night, everyone. See you tomorrow!

My dragon is stress eating. And not getting off the couch. And eating what I know I shouldn't be. Gosh! I think I've got an entire herd of the little lizards!!

I did well today - packed everything for the day in my lunch box and logged it as it went in. That trick really seems to work for me. If I've written it down, I stick with it. Did really well in the exercise department! Hit my elliptical before work, walked a mile with one of my work pals, then Curves on the way home. Afterwards, dinner was a piece of Costco rotissere chicken. What a life saver! Or should I say diet saver?

TTFN!

Well, I made it through dinner. We went out to Logans and I had a 6 oz steak with a Caesar Salad - no croutons and little dressing, and a veggies skewer - squash and mushrooms. Then I was "compulsive eating" and instead of jumping into the french fries, I snacked on the chicken tenders my kids weren't eating. Very meating. The only thing I don't know how to count in the breading. So, I really only lost it on the breading of the chicken tenders. I'll take it!
