This morning's inspiration, again making me think:
Enjoy how random interactions with strangers and friends affect the course of your day.
Sometimes I wake up wondering, who will I meet today? Sometimes at the end of the day, I wonder 'what if this (or that) had or hadn't happened?' I don't often spend a lot of time on 'what if...?', but today, I feel like playing. What if...?
What would your 'what if...' be, or what will it be today?
TGIF, everyone!
Ah...'what if's'...
I woke up with 'what ifs'...
Yesterday when we arrived home, my GF had a package from a new boss of hers...pastries from a shop in Pella Iowa...and of course one of them was filled with almond paste...my favorite...so we shared one...
We just shared ONE...but it was about 10" long, so I had 5" worth.
Anyway...I have learned that when I eat carbs in the evening, I don't sleep well. I wake up often, I don't stay in REM, and I have TERRIBLE breath in the am.
All this because I had 5" of a flaky pastry...
What if I wouldn't have??
I would feel more rested, I would not have been AFRAID of kissing my GF upon waking, and I wouldn't have the regret I have now...
Yes, the what if game...not a good game for me today:tear:.
HOWEVER..I'm not stopping there...
WHAT IF...I go to the Pilates 2 class today and use my body?
WHAT IF...I accomplish my work tasks today so I don't leave feeling like my desk is full of work over the weekend?
WHAT IF...I follow my food plans for the rest of the day?
THESE what if's, will make me feel good, sleep well, and not rue the day upon retiring tonight!
I can do this, just for today...it will work for me if I work it!:D

Good plan Ammy, you can't go wrong with that !!
Galaen, my "what if" today has come true !!!!
What if the world finally realized that some of those low fat studies were not what they seem. (per Gary Taubes)
What if the truth about saturated fats not being the killer it is touted to be was broadcast around our nations living rooms.
What if they also broadcast that the liver actually makes the fat that circulates in our bloodstream, not the food in our stomach, and what the liver makes is reliant upon the carbs, ie starchy food and sugars we ingest.
Well, I heard all that and more from a Doctor on Fox News this a.m.
I know, I know, we don't want to be swayed from the reports from the news media--they've reported so much garbage before, but I am currently reading the new Taubes book and it finally sounds like someone is taking seriously the facts in the Keyes study that sent this nation in an upward spiral (weighwise , I mean)
Anyway, this inspires me-- there is hope after all that millions of folks will learn a more viable way of eating. Maybe our school systems will stop loading the kids with nothing but carbs. I subbed at Head Start the other day and for breakfast they had toast, juice, milk. There was 8 grams of protein in the milk. I don't know about the bread but my loaf at home says 3 per slice. So if they drank all their milk and ate a piece of toast they got a whopping 11 grams of protein and I shudder to think of the carbs from the milk, bread and juice together. This is pretty typical of the school meals--lots of carbs (face it they are cheap) and very little protein .
Wow, I seem to be ranting, but it was so great to hear something other than low carb bashing on the news.

Karole,
Is that the same report that was on Today yesterday? I saw a blurb about food that we think is healthy isn't, but I had to leave before the actual report came on. The pictures of the food in question included pasta, so my first thought was that they were actually going to question current thinking. That'd be a switch!
What if . . . I relax a little today and actually be mentally ready for my program tonight? Yesterday I was very tense and by the end of the day I was really in a funk. I had to come back in to direct last night's performance, but I really wasn't in the mood.
Under my doctor's supervision, I'm experimenting with intermittent fasting, so today I'm eating breakfast and lunch--breakfast is done and lunch is packed, so I'm prepared.
We're expecting snow over the weekend; it might play havoc with our church banquet. If it's on, I may experiment with my family cheesy potatoes, substituting cauliflower as Amy suggested.
Have a good one, everyone.
ahhh...the holidays!!

Cute one, Amy!
Some great what if's up here today! I especially like Amy's positive ones. Mine go back a long way. What if, back in the dark ages, I hadn't been shown what low carb can do so that when my doctor explained Protein Power to me I jumped for it like an old friend? I was on the train, kids. My lipids were rising, my family physician was wanting to put me on more drugs. Blood pressure was up. I had the physique of my grandmothers and aunts, all who died of strokes and heart attacks and diabetes. What if I had said NO to "one more diet"? I know the answer to that one.
Now for my positive one: What if I make it through the whole feeding frenzy weekend without eating more carbs than my plan contains? I want to wake up Monday morning with a smile on my face.
I did some reading and it looks like my elevated morning blood sugar count might be due to stress. Duh! So what can I do? Slow down, relax, exercise. Hard to do during the holiday stretch! Guess I'll make it a point to do it, though! Beats the alternative and all it takes is my time.
Ruth, you're giving yourself some good advice. Have a good time tonight and I hope your performance is fun!
Karole it is so great that some of that information is getting out to the general public! Exciting!

Carol--
I love your positive "what ifs"? The train you were on is the same one my brother went down and where I would probably be as well. Right now, he is a Type 2 diabetic who has already lost one foot to the disease. Last night he had an episode with low blood sugar that scared the daylights out of us. Sometimes he just doesn't eat when he should and then the medication he's on sends his bs ridiculously low.
So thank God for this information. I too am glad for every scientist and researcher who is circulating the truth.

Ruth, I have a friend who is in very bad shape but doesn't want to give up her carby diet. She hurts all over and her stomach has the gastric neuropathy that really messes one's sugar up. It's so frustration to feel liberated, or maybe educated is a better word, and watch someone deteriorate in front of your eyes!
Ahem, I have decided to step off the merry-go-round and skip the second party of the day, which was mostly political anyway. I'm going to go home and rest and be with my husband for a couple of hours so I can actually enjoy the music party later tonight. My priorities are in order! :D

There ya go Carol !! If you reduced your stress level by skiipping a party tonight, then you are on the yellow brick road my friend !! Good for you.
Rhyme- I didn't see the Today segment you mentioned but it probably was in the same venue as the one I saw today. Boy, it did my heart good to listen to that doctor talk about the flawed low fat studies we have lived with for so long.

Thank you, Karole; I felt much better as soon as I made the decision to skip the party. That means it was the right thing to do. I ate meat and fruit at the music party, was rested and had a good time.
I sure would like to catch some of the shows you're talking about! No time right now, though. I'm headed for bed. Ciao!
