This works great! I need to reduce egg yolk consumption due to arachadonic acid content... trying to cure chronic constipation.

Anyone know how I can do this and still have an omelette? If I make a 3-egg omelette, would it still work if I use only one yolk? If not, what about a 2-egg omelette using only one yolk?

I have been using eggs, chopped ham, grated cheddar cheese, chopped peppers.

:::

Start a pot of water to boil briskly. You also need a small ziplock baggy.

Beat 2-3 raw eggs in a bowl.

Add any or all of the following:
grated cheese
chopped ham or bacon
chopped pepper
chopped mushrooms

You can use whatever you like, I suppose.

Pour the eggs into the baggy. Add all ingredients and swish it around to mix it well. Press air out of bag and seal the ziplock tightly. Drop into the briskly boiling water for 13 minutes.

Bill, you can make an omelet with two or three egg whites and one whole egg. I think the results will be similar.

Crazy recipe! Let us know if you like it.

I always throw in a little powdered tumeric and a little flaked basil plus a shake of onion powder. I've grown to like the mixture.

Good luck!

Those ingredients are totally optional. I didn't post it for the ingredients, I posted it for the "omelette in a baggy" trick because it works so well. I will try your additions to see how I like it.

Bill, we use that technique when we have a large family gathering type breakfast. In fact we used it over the Thanksgiving holiday when we had a lot of family in from out of state. It is wonderful -- we have every thing all chopped up and in bowls and everyone fixes their own omelet to their own preferences. (Best of all-- I don't have to stand over a hot stove myself !!)

To feed that large a group, we use our gas turkey cooker outside and boil a very large quantity of water so we can cook several omelets at once. This is great for camping trips also.

I hadn't thought of doing it for just the two of us, but it is so easy and not much clean up that I just might give it a whirl next time we have omelets.

I found a link to an extension agent article that said that Ziplock says don't do it, that the plastic can leak toxins. Wanting to know now if the article can be trusted.

I just did a search and did not find that article (it might have been bogus) and found other articles that refute problems with plastic. So, I still don't know if it's okay. Sure works well!
