Good morning.
Here's a bit of humor from my experience.
As many of you may know, Congress, in an attempt to create a viable energy policy, has moved the start of Daylight Savings Time back to November 4th, while the European Union, possessed of more rational energy policies, has kept it on October 25th, same as it would normally have been in the US.
As many of you know, I work for the Federal Government. Yes, the same government that has moved Daylight Savings Time back a week. Only, this same government forgot to tell my computer. Which has converted to daylight savings, by moving back an hour. So, while it's really 8:19 here in DC as I write this, my computer thinks it's 7:19. At any rate, I can't change it back, because I'm not an administrator. But, it's struck me as passingly amusing (and this week's sign that your federal government can't do much right) that the entire nation gets an extra week of waking in the dark while the government's own computers don't know the difference.
So weird is this, that I, a prompt exiter, left late on Monday because I didn't realize that my computer had shifted. As I was exiting, at 3:55PM, a guy looked at his watch as if I were skipping out early (you can't leave before 3:00PM without leave). When I talk of fedworld, indeed, we're even in our own time zone.
You know, this is a lot more amusing when I think about it than write about it.
Any rate, I lifted. I have shaked. I'm at the desk with mild accomplishment on my mind. Tonight, we RAWK with Van Halen!

Max, I found your story very funny. I have spent the week FIGHTING with the (please say this with sarcasm) WONDERFUL Government purchasing system (GSA) to sell our product...and I have to say, I've never encountered more heads up more arses than in the government! :peeved:
Anyway.
I pledge to relax and know it will all get done. Not to run around like a chicken with no head tonight in some crazy unorganized fashion getting ready for the weekend.
My list of to-do's as it stands right now.
1. Review bank statement for non-profit group over my lunchhour.
2. Go to dress shop (located downtown - over my lunch hour), ask about alterations (I'm performing this weekend and my dress is too big...I know I'm waiting until the last minute, but I can't wallow in "I should have done this before" :o. I CAN wear the dress as is, but it's not as flattering as it could be ;):D)
3. Go to another dress shop (NOT downtown in expensive-ville) to get a quote (5pm)
4. Go to Non-profit board meeting tonight (6pm)
5. Go to copy place after board meeting (around 7pm) and get the copies ordered for pickup tomorrow for convention this weekend.
I can leave work around 3:45, so that's nice, give me time to eat a meal as well!
I'm feeling better knowing it's laid out...thanks for helping me get organized.

Found a gym that seems right for me www.cardinalfitness.com that I can access close to the house as well as in Springfield when I am there. Love the fact no long term contracts, but month to month.

In my pursuit of finding the nutrition of what i'm putting in my mouth I was amazed at the carbs in Carrots! Carrots are FULL of sugar..... tasty but full of sugar.
Bratwurst is low in carbs but the the ingredients are a little shady. :-)
any hot new recipes to share?

any hot new recipes to share?
Not a real recipe but I discovered Chipotle Sauce last week (Chipotle Chicken Salad) and I find it an incredible burst of flavor without just being hot.
http://www.gourmetsleuth.com/images/ahumado.jpg
I bought it locally at Loblaws but there are many recipes out there to make your own. I did not have adobo sauce but added Cummin, Garlic, Tomato sauce and Vinegar when I made it myself with a touch of Sucralose.
INGREDIENTS SHACKL (http://allrecipes.com/Cooks-Profile/Main.aspx?userID=1277431)
1/2 cup plain yogurt
1/2 cup mayonnaise
2 teaspoons pureed chipotle peppers in adobo sauce
DIRECTIONS
In a small bowl, mix together the yogurt, mayonnaise, and chipotle peppers until smooth. Chill until serving.
There are lots of other recipes (http://www.gourmetsleuth.com/chipotlesaucerecipes.htm) and you have to sub a SF sweetener for the brown sugar on the BBQ ones.

In my pursuit of finding the nutrition of what i'm putting in my mouth I was amazed at the carbs in Carrots! Carrots are FULL of sugar..... tasty but full of sugar.
Feelix, according to www.fitday.com:
1/2 cup grated carrots = 24 calories as 4g ECC (6g carbs - 2 g fiber), 1g protein
1 medium baby carrot (size just a guess, but...) = 4 calories as 1g carb
1 small raw carrot, 5 1/2 inches long = 22 calories as 4g ECC (5g carbs - 1g fiber), 1g protein
1 slice of mature carrot only accounts for 1 calorie; that won't even show up on a carb count until you start eating a fistful
The key to carrots, tomatoes, berries, melon is portion control. Yes, they contain natural sugars (carbohydrates) but they are not the same kind of sugar hit to your system as, say, half a Hershey's bar. In known and managed quantities, they're a fine carb bargain for their extra nutrients, variety, flavor, and crunch or dipper potential. Enjoy!

Gaelen--
That's where I run into trouble, especially with berries. Keeping the portions small. I occasionally toss a few baby carrots into my salad knowing that they're good for me. But I do rue the carbs, thinking I could spend them on something else I might want more. But I try to remember that I need different vegetables and nutrients and so sometimes, the carrots are carbs well spent.

For today, I will:
--eat exactly on plan.
--drink more water than I need.
--try to get to sleep at a decent hour.
Not a lot, really. But just enough.

Okay--I must be losing my mind.
I saw the November challenge, but I never saw this thread until tonight. How did I miss it? Does it count if you did the things on the list without actually pledging to do them?
Well, Randy started the challenge, so that's out. My menu for the day--
Breakfast--protein shake, 3 links of sausage
Lunch--LC wrap with salami and provolone
Snack--protein shake
Supper--tuna casserole (with Dreamfields)
Snack--no-bake lemon cheesecake
And I packed my lunch (I have committed to doing this every day because it's essential to my success). I also promise to have some me time whenever I get home. I'm still trying to work out the Romeo and Juliet lesson plans I need for this next unit.
By my count, that gives me 110 points.
Happy November!

Dried Apples.... Another treat I enjoyed today.
I don't know how to count carbs on the dried apples since it's an apple dehydrated but they were tasty!
Here is to a good start to november - no matter what the carb count!

A protein cookie and a PB rollup for a late lunch with a Caf-Lib.
Dinner was Chicken and Chipotle sauce (the recipe mentioned earlier but I would only use 2 peppers next time and I subbed yogurt for most of the mayo)
For Dessert I had a SF Vannilla Mousse Mix with a bit of yogurt and watered down cream. It whips up thick and is ready to eat when mixed.
Total: 1921 IF: 20/4
Fat: 165
Carbs: 43 - 21 = 42
Fiber: 21
Protein: 101
We watched the "The Descent (http://www.imdb.com/gallery/ss/0435625/ka_lg.jpg.html?path=gallery&path_key=0435625&seq=14)" together (she owed me a favor and I have to watch a chick flick on the weekend:rolleyes:) for dinner and I got in a workout on arms/shoulders and abs until it got too scary she said we had to turn it off or I had to sit with her. We are going to Warsaw Caves (http://johanna.wandel.ca/warsaw/warsaw6.jpg)(much shorter, crawling caves (http://johanna.wandel.ca/warsaw/th_warsaw1.jpg)) next summer and she said straight out halfway through the movie that she is not going down.
Randy, thanks for the recipie. I may get brave and try it the next time I buy groceries.
Feelix..are not dried apples pretty high in carbs??
Missy, I was so happy to see you eat protien for breakfast and even break 300 points!!! WOO HOO!!!!
Ruth, I love seeing menu plans on the challenge site. It gives me ideas.
Vivienne, it is JUST enough. It is perfect.;)
Max and Ammy, my father worked for the GSA.He was in the Everret Dirkson building in Chicago. He managed field inspectors for region 5.
Funny the govt. computers are off even though THEY changed the time change.
Billie..I think it is wonderful you have checked into gyms. I remember you being pretty dilegent about going to the gym. I'm looking forward to "hearing" about your DOMS.:lol:

Correction on the Chipotle Sauce
You can buy Chipotles in cans already in the adobo sauce. Since there is some brown sugar in the sauce it is 3 ECC for three peppers. The smoky peppers have a soft but strong heat that dissipates faster than Cayenne. I used 4 and should have used 2.
INGREDIENTS
1 cup plain yogurt (If multicultured with no additives you can subtract up to half the carbs)
2 whole chipotle peppers in adobo sauce
2-3 drops SweetzFree or other SF sweetener DIRECTIONS
Blend together smooth. Chill until serving. This goes great with chicken, or even on burgers. It is thick enough to spread and has an orange color.
I pledge to relax and know it will all get done. Not to run around like a chicken with no head tonight in some crazy unorganized fashion getting ready for the weekend.
This is exactly what happened! Thanks to organizing my day, I slept like a baby last night!
My list of to-do's
1. Done.
2. Got dress quote, $5 more than the shop below.
3. Dress dropped off...it's being taken in 3 inches. It's still too big in the front, but fits my bum just right! I pick up after 3:30 Friday.
4. Done
5. done, didn't get there until 8pm, so I did the "drop off-you copy" thing at the 24hr place. Saved me LOTS of time, picked it up at 6:30am Friday, and they gave me a 33% discount on top of my tax exemption!
