Hello. My name is Rod. I was diagnosed with type 2 diabetes back in November of 2006. I started taking Byetta and ActoPlus Met at that time. Byetta helped me
lose around 35 pounds before I started having problems with nausea. I was
getting sick on a very regular basis so I discontinued the use of Byetta, with my docs permission. Since stopping Byetta I've gained the 35 pounds back plus a little more. I'm now taking ActoPlus Met and Januvia. My blood sugar levels are good but I'm still struggling with weight.

I've just started Protein Power this past Friday. I'm wondering if there are any other diabetics here who can tell me how long it is before you started to lose weight. I know when I did a similar diet (South Beach) a few years ago before becoming a diabetic I started to lose weight right away. If anyone could share some encouragement that would be great.

Thanks!
Rod

I was diagnosed a Type II diabetic just before I started PP almost 6 years ago. Our readings are different in Canada (and every other place but the US since we are metric) but I was 8.0 where 6.3 is the crossover for fasting Blood sugar readings to indicate diabetes. It currently hovers around 5.5 and except for some holiday times (Christmas or away on an active holiday) has never moved above the threshhold again.

My weight loss began immediately although I was beginning at 306. There were even two 7 pound loss weeks although that tapered off quickly.

I suggest using Fitday.com to track your carb level and food intake until you can see what is stalling you. As well you may want to join the October CHallenge and report daily.

I'm 320 right now. Since starting PP I've eaten very little carbohydrates, definitely within the boundaries set for the Intervention phase. I'll just check myself in a few days and see if I've lost anything. It'll probably kick in soon. I was just concerned that perhaps the ActoPlus Met medication is keeping me from losing weight. I have heard that it does cause weight gain.

I'll check out the challenge to see what that's all about. Thanks for the reply!
