View Full Version : August Challenge - Day 6
Wow. I'm either early, or everyone is still sleeping!
Either way, Good Morning!
What is your plan for today? I tried to figure out what I needed to get done to keep me FOCUSED all day long.
DH and I agreed to an excercise session tonight after the boys go to bed. I've gotten the food prepped for today. Now it is on to basic household chores.
It is so much easier to follow a plan if you have one!
Hope everyone has a good day!

So, it's back to the comfort zone. I am done with work parties for a while. Done with all day meetings for a while. Done with routine breakers. It's a good thing. Friday sucked. It was mindless idiocy. I'm over it, but I want to get back to planning like a madman. It would have been a good idea. I had an idea about an alternate, but I didn't execute.
At any rate, today, I am up. I am at work. I have worked out. I thought I might've tweaked my back, but that has passed. I benched heavy. To failure. I did my weird ball exercise. To failure and beyond. I did planks, to new heights of plankdom. That aspect is going well. Next, I will drink a shake to new heights of shakedom (or new lows, either way. It's amazing how you can build a good habit and then have a slight change {brand of protein shake mix} bring you out of it {didn't like the taste as much, but I think I'm past that. They still don't taste wonderful, but... How bad do I want it? Badder than they taste.}).
Have a meetdown to plan my next several weeks of work. That should be fun. Boss is managing me. I will commence my management of her today. You can play the game of influence, or you can be played by the hierarchy. Both have their ups and downs, but I'd rather have a hand in the game than be a bystander to my life.
Last thing. The job search starts today. I have a four month deadline if I don't want a 3 month regional rotation forced down my throat.

Good morning, Kathy :). Thank you for getting the thread started today.
I don't seem to have achieved much this morning, but I did get a few chores done. I almost managed to stick to doing them one at a time :). Some exercise to assist with my back's recovery, and some cooking are the highlights this afternoon.

Max, I think we were posting at the same time :). I've merged your thread with Kathy's - hope that's OK?
My week is starting well.
The idea of eating twice a day (see Day 5 challenge thread) is a little scary to me...I work so much better when I don't have to THINK! If only my MIND wouldn't get in my way, I'd be SO much better off!!
I am going to workout today...I have only missed one day this month (Saturday) and that feels good. Friday when I worked out, the resistance alone just was not enough-adding 20min of cardio after th the resistance felt great. Otherwise I find myself RUNNING back to the office, like I have revved my body up and it needs to RELEASE. The cardio helps that 'need to release', so I will do that again today.
My food is packed, my first shake is drank. My stomach is growling (a LOT), so I may have a string cheese or my almonds now and my meal later. We'll see where my body is in 15min.

Ms GQ - Thanks for getting us started today :D!
Max - Good luck with the job search :).
Mitra - Way to go working on that habit changing !
Amy - Way to go on that exercise !
On plan so far today. Exercise done and meals planned so I see no problems in the way the day is going to go ;).
Good morning.
Some days we need to think ahead instead of behind. You cannot drive a car by looking in the rearview mirror.
In other words...
manage the actions not the consequences...
Some weekends the family drops in a few more carbs are consumed..or you get invited out and the food is not PP freindly...
then... the choice to freak out about the scale...or continue to workout and count the carbs and keep on trucking.
After all this is life. It happens and we need to manage our daily actions and develop patterns of good health.
So with that said, I am going down to do an upper body work out. I cannot do anything about wearing this honking big cast, but I can move forward and keep my body moving and fit in the areas I CAN and then eat the food I know won't raise my blood sugar. One good thing: I have not gotten a headache this month so far.

That's not a bad thing, eh? (((Hugs)))
I'm a working fool today! The boss gave me a project, knows I'm going to have to struggle to get it done in one day, then interrupts me frequently. :peeved: (Sigh) Plus every other fire that could pop up -- does! I'm still in a good mood, though. Had a shake for breakfast and a salad for lunch. Need to take a walk, but I feel sort of tied to my desk. Ten minutes about the halls won't put me any farther behind, I suppose.
Lita, I'm sorry you didn't get your rest last night! I know how that is. I've been sleeping a little better, for which I am thankful.

I've been doing quite well at not being too distracted today. Today's challenge is that I've been experimenting with different allergy treatment, but every time I sneeze, it really hurts my back (which isn't painful the rest of the time). So I think I'll just load up on the antihistamines, and try cutting down some other time :).
Workout complete
Meal being eaten
work getting done...slowly...
Carol, I HATE when my boss gives me a job then constantly interrupts me...and he ALWAYS does!!:peeved:
Hawk, hope you enjoyed your Upper Body workout-and glad you're not pushing anything "below the belt".
I weighed at the gym 200.2 that's very exciting...!!! I look forward to breaking 200 ONCE AGAIN but maintaining this time!!
I know it might take awhile (days or weeks), but I'm still excited about it!!!

Amy, one of the enlightening moments I had at the workshop I went to Friday was being told my micro-manager was probably just insecure. :peeved: (Snort!) So, it's my job to fill him with confidence. Actually, that's been working somewhat. He guards his rear end carefully, but he wants someone else to do the legwork. My resume is gonna look good after this! Too bad my next planned move is retirement! :D I could probably be a consultant by this time.
Bless you, Janet, but don't sneeze any more, please. No pepper on the chops tonight! I hope your clear up in time to enjoy your anniversary dinner.

Thank you, Carol :). I'm sure I'll manage to enjoy our dinner . Several dinners, actually - we're staying away for three nights :D.

So, for all the micromanaged out there, I have a strategy. Micro-manage your boss. Deluge them with daily details about your work, making sure you're fine, and, quickly, they will leave you alone. I have used this tactic frequently since being at DOL (two out of three rotations), and have been left with enough time to actually do the work and get things done.
Good advice Max!
My boss LOVES and TRIVES on me giving him EVERY detail of what I'm doing! I hate it, but have learned to do it...to NOT do it is MUCH worse!
He is the "sales" guy of the company so unless he is out selling or filling out an RFP (request for proposal) then he's bored and wants to know EVERYTHING I'M doing. He and I are our own part of the company, while everyone else are the software developers. I'm the only one he micro manages because I'm the only one he CAN micro manage...
But overall I like my job...

A great day today with meals on track and pork ribs planned for later. Our Granddaughter leaves tonight and it will be great to have all the Lego, plastercine and other items put away. My wife prefers it this way since we don't see this one as often.
This will be a short work week for me. Today is a holiday and I leave Friday for two weeks holidays. Fins, mask/snorkle packed and today I got another box to give away.

It is good advice, Max. I'm not sure it would work on mine, though. He interrupts and bounces around and doesn't listen well. We can have everything all planned out and he'll bring it up like it's a new subject. Other times, he's tack sharp. I'm learning him, though. I tend to send him email copies so he can't say I never told him. I found that if I go back to my usual decisive nature and just let him hop in when I'm wrong, it works pretty well. My most reassuring response is "I'm on it." whether I am or not. If he detects indicision, he's following me around.
Oh, and I like my job, too! I'm expanding my horizons even as I whine! When it's good, it's challenging.
Amy, we used to have one like your sales guy. He'd come around and start "helping" but then get called away in the middle and they'd never know how far through the task he'd gone.
To keep this on thread, I'm going to announce that I've got a string cheese break coming up here. :D

On plan with the eating part. On the exercise, I'm a little bit on a crossroads here. I went to the clinic to have some neck/shoulder pain checked (and also my second left toe which is killing me...) only to find out that 1) I have some problems with my neck muscles being too tensed, 2) I have rotator cuff syndrome (not yet a tear) and a pinched nerve between my first and second toes... go figure! So, they did some manipulation for my neck, shoulders and back together with electrical stimulation for those areas and my toe to relax the muscles and nerves (felt very good!).
So... they didn't recommend shoulder exercises unless until I get a bit better and I'm suppose to do some very specific relaxation/strengthening exercises for my neck/shoulders instead. So, my shoulder routine is probably out for the moment.
Of course, then there was the interview with the MD in the place... Really didn't care for him. To me, if a physician doesn't take the time to ask the relevant questions, besides "where does it hurt", such as what do you do, do you work out, any other health problems you think you have that are not related with your muscle pain, etc (you know, just to get a first impression of the patient), then is not worth my while to spend time with him/her.
He was very quick in saying that "the only way to lose weight is by eating less, regardless of the amount of exercise you do..." so that tells you to which school of nonsense he belongs. And... oh yeah... nothing is better than aerobic exercise to lose weigh, which is true, but not in the way he described 'aerobic' exercise, which had nothing to do with weight baring exercises... i.e. hours in the treadmill and the like...
Anyway, the positive part of the appointment, I had some work done on my neck/shoulder/foot areas and the chiropractor does have a plan of action to help me recover. The negative part, the physician and his spiel... :)
So now, I need to plan again what type of exercise I'll be doing in the gym while I follow the routine designed to alleviate my neck/shoulder area.
Other than that... still on!!! And having juicy burgers with salad tonight!!! ;)

Wow, you guys were busy while I was working hard ! But you're all doing a great job !

Great point, Lynn!
Carol - Your day sounds a lot like mine . But I'm glad at least one of us is getting some sleep :D.
Mitra - Sounds like a good plan to experiment after the back is better!
Gabe - Sorry for the idiot you had to deal with, but am glad you're getting that shoulder/neck tended to!

Evening all... didn't get around to posting yesterday, wat too wiped out from the heat. Triple digits all week (even now at 8:30 pm it's 99 outside!)
Having one of my headaches today, feels like my head is just going to erupt. :( Managed to do a bit of "exercise" though, the warm up and cool down segments of my DWTS DVD (10 minutes). Just wasn't up to much but knew I needed to do something as I didn't yesterday. Thought the stretching and breathing would help with the headache, but no such luck.
The next couple of weeks are going to be crazy around here as we get ready to head back to school. Hopefully once school starts I'll get back into a routine that I can stick to.
'becca
hey Missy girl!! Good to see you.
Becca..sorry about your headache. I must have passed them on to you!
Max, I AM GOING TO DO THAT TOMORROW. I can BE obnoxious enough to turn the tables... I think we ALL in the office should do that and then we'll see what happens.

The day:
Protein: Check, and then some
Carbs: Yes, kept it under 20 (with a big serve of dreamfields even)
Exercise: NFL Strong, Monday, Check
Vitamins: Check. I was almost out the door at work, but remembered.
Flossing: I skipped a day. I really bled my gums on Sunday, so wanted a day off.
Coke: I went a whole day without a coke. When I sit at my desk, it is easier.
I'm a yes...
All clothes in the laundry, shoes put away, protein eaten, carbs limited, exercise done...
Yep, give me a CHECK http://mud.mm-a6.yimg.com/image/3487365315 (http://images.search.yahoo.com/search/images/view?back=http%3A%2F%2Fimages.search.yahoo.com%2Fs earch%2Fimages%3Fp%3Dcheckmark%26fr%3Dyfp-t-501%26toggle%3D1%26cop%3Dmss%26ei%3DUTF-8&w=93&h=99&imgurl=ihrrealty.com%2Fmyimages%2Fcheckmark.jpg&rurl=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.ihrrealty.com%2Fmyimages%3FS %3DA&size=1.9kB&name=checkmark.jpg&p=checkmark&type=jpeg&no=2&tt=18,128&oid=cae6d174e2455fc6&ei=UTF-8)!

Max,
OMG, I am ROTFLMAO!
Micro-managing my supervisor is my specialty:D .
I occasionally have to deal with more than just my one, primary, supervisor ... and they want me to "keep them in the loop". Deluging them with daily details certainly "keeps them in the loop". :D

I read that and laughed out loud too!! :D Great advise Max! lol I can see how clearly THAT would work...I'm going to have to do that to my SISTER! She's the QUEEN of micro management.
As with all things in life....if you overwhelmingly SHOW people like that you are in absolute control and with confidence ~ THAT is what they are looking for...so SHOW THEM in their style and gain thier confidence. Then they'll go off and find easier prey. lol
