Hello,

I started the PPLP at the end of 2/2007, after getting scared of the high fasting glucose test (128, it had been 99 or less forever) results during my last physical on 12/6/2007. I decided to truly commot to the PPLP lifestyle. I went to get tested 0n 7/24/07, here are the two results:

12/6/2006 7/24/2007

Fasting Glucose 128 114
Chol. 275 269
Trygl. 197 88
HDL 37 43
LDL (calc.) 199 208
Hgb A1c N/A 5.6

I am dissapointed a little bit, I expected my FG to be closer to 99, if not below it. Also, I expected better HDL numbers. Anyway, it still and improvement. My BP is 125/72 and my pulse is 59 beats/min. My weight dropped from 271 lb to 244 lb. And I have felt great.

I had asked the Dr. for a Hemoglobin A1C test, but he had said that it wasn't necessary based on my not being considered diabetic. He checked my BG with a portable glucometer, and it showed 135! I was upset (although I didn't believe the value to be true) , but the the actual blood test showed 114. A little high (Dawn effect??) At least my Hg A1c is good.

Your numbers are coming down..VWD!. If you want to affect the cholesterol more and raise the hdl and lower the LDL, add garlic to your diet. I'm eating fresh garlic daily...people also use the capsules but I believe the enzymes in fresh garlic is better..
You also might try lowering the fat a little (or change your fats). There is some evidence regarding higher fat in diets and the fat affecting insulin resistance. Or just stop using butter and use olive oil. Add fish oil for omega 3's if you don't already. Experiment. Everyone is different.
Just a suggestion.

Diana,

I am not really concerned about Cholesterol. I don't believe the lipid theory of CHD. I really want my fasting glucose to be below 100. I take two tbsp of Cod liver oil a day. I use fresh garlic for cooking. I always had high Cholesterol levels. The highest has been 270 and the lowest was 227, when I did low fat 13 years ago I was running 3-4 miles 5x/week. At that time my HDL was about 35. I did lose about 50 lbs in a year. But once I cut back in the volume of excercise (knees couldn't take it), the weight came back.
