Good Morning Everyone

Don't see anyone else up and around this morning so I guess I'll start off the day, at least I hope I'm starting today....I dunno...left my glasses upstairs yet this morning.

I have no motivational song lyrics for you today......
I have no affirmations to share this morning.......
I don't have any big announcements to share as of yet......

I do hope everyone has a ROCKING good day....an ON PLAN day....a day that when it's done and you're sitting back this evening reflecting on what occurred today you can say....WOW, I did that!!!....and feel good about it.

Good morning. Just got back from lifting heav(ier) and feel good.

today's quote: Alvin Toffler

You've got to think about the big things while you're doing the small things, so that all the small things go in the right direction.
The guy isn't considered superbright for nothing. At any rate, this is the essence of being goal focused. So, when looking at the giant chocolate egg some miscreant brought in and left on the reception desk, try and figure how that little thing fits with your big plans. If it doesn't, it's easier to pass. It wasn't gonna get me into my cord jeans, so, it's a pass.

Rock on.

I worked out at home today...because Jon is here...AND..WE ARE HAVING A BLIZZARD>>.

Come on!!! Who ordered this?? Must be Gods joke on all the global warming believers..

It is 30* here and blizzarding. We have three inches of ice and snow. The ice is so bad on the trees that they are breaking. I have heard ambulance and fire trucks all morning. It looks beautiful, but scraping in off my car while getting hit in the face by it is NOT going to be fun. I wonder if all our patients will cancel. Most of them are elderly.

It wasn't gonna get me into my cord jeans, so, it's a pass.

I love that Max!! You're absolutely right!!

It's snowing here as well, Hawk! Not a blizzard because it's above freezing, but it rained all night, now it's snowing. We have about 2inches of heavy wet stuff, and there is no end in sight. But all the weather people agree, it will not only stop snowing by tomorrow, it will be completely melted by tomorrow night!

Read another segment on this "Fat: What No One Is Telling You" show on tonight...I hope it's as good as I'm reading. It's getting really good press. I hope people watch it and it's worth discussing.
For those who don't know what I'm talking about, http://www.pbs.org/wgbh/takeonestep/fat/.
I have a massage during the first hour, but I'm taping it. I love that it's a show about obese people, not the fixing of it. We have so many shows dealing with how to "cure" obesity, nobody spends time actually listening to what it's like to BE obese...I'm excited, can you tell??

Anyway, I had a bad start to my day...I had a WONDERFUL cup of coffee and 1/2 a carrot muffin...no it wasn't LC. I wanted it...I had it...then it made me sick and I had to throw away the rest. I couldn't BELIEVE how SWEET it was...I felt nauseous!! Too-sweet items give me a terrible headache and a BAD taste in my mouth! Guess I learned my lesson...I hope!!

Michelle, my day may not have started "on plan" (it started on MY plan, not THE plan), but I'm not letting that ruin my day. I'm back on THE plan and I'm going to STAY there!!

MAX..I'm going to think of what you said all day..It will go down in history of motivational sayings in my journal...

"It wasn't going to help me fit into my cord jeans , so it's a pass"

No one will understand when I stand there and repeat it to myself at the grocery store or the restaurant booth. I will think of you when I say it too.

I did my upperbody at home and had a 5 egg white omelet..

I started feeling really tired a couple weeks ago and my skin smelled like ammonia. I called EAS hotline and they told me to drink a large protien shake immediately after working out because I was using my own muscle to repair myself. I am eating protien like crazy,.. anyway. I don't get it. It stopped right away.

Hello, Michelle, Max, Hawk, Amy.

Max, I love the idea of using the jeans as motivation . I need to find some special clothing to use that way. Nothing springs to mind at the moment. Maybe I'd better go shopping ;).

Good morning everyone! We're getting snow too, and expecting it to turn to rain later and then back to snow tonight. I've focused on Friday, when it's supposed to be warmer. The wind is up, too, blowing my Blazer all over the road on the way to work. I don't suppose it will be bad enough for a snow day tomorrow, so there's nothing to look forward to. The old me would have been down at the beach to photograph the wave action, but with this gimp and the bad eye, it doesn't even sound like fun. :p

Max, your Toffler quote didn't sink in at first, but it's growing on me. :) Especially when you mentioned the chocolate egg.

Started the day with a mango/ginger/vanilla protein shake and am on my way over to the cafeteria to select a salad for lunch.

Today will be a challenge. Spent last night calling folks and organizing for flowers from the church choir for a friend who died on Easter morning. Result was a late night. Couldn't get moving this morning, so I didn't get a lunch packed. Breakfast was a protein bar. I'll walk out and buy a salad for lunch and hopefully find some good snack food.

Dinner will be quick tonight because we need to go to the funeral home tonight. The funeral is Friday. So that's 2 weeks in a row that I will spend part of my day off at a funeral. And I expect a thrid one shortly. The lady's husband is in the hospital after a heart attack with total kidney failure. He doesn't even know that she is gone. He will be joining her soon.

And I wonder why I'm depressed?

Mitra, you've "got to go shopping"... Funny, funny, funny! :D

Max, yes, your "cords" thought stuck a chord here as well... ;) Right now, I'm smooth sailin', but I'm SURE I'll need it soon!

Hawk, have a great day with Jon!

Michelle, you and me both on the weather! I keep hearing "several inches of snow" for Friday... that can mean... 4 inches to four FEET!!! Ack!!!

"Hey" to the rest of you good people! :D

Finally! Back on track! :D

Breakfast was good, lunch -- packed my own homemade chicken salad (I don't like much with it other than chicken and mayo) and "splerged" with actual bread since I had only 4 ecc's for breakfast (I found some bread that's 5 ecc's per slice). And some fresh strawberries, blackberries, blueberries in some cottage cheese. Yum Yum! Water is on track too.

My problem is that I couldn't finish my lunch. It's been like that lately. Not so bad when I can't eat all the carbs (ie. salad) and eat all my protein, but lately I'm full before I've finished my protein. Is this just me? A phase or something? Today I'll just save it for an afternoon snack.

Got a great surprise today. A friend won some free tickets to a special preview of Disburbia and she gave me 2. So DH and I will be having a little date night tonight while grandma/aunt takes care of the kids. I have no idea what dinner will be at this moment. Hmmmm ... will think about this as the theater is on the opposite side of town than we usually run around. Maybe some place new.

So, with some other plans I have seen, the protein for people who lift heavy could be as high as 2.4g/kg body weight. That's more than a gram per pound. That's to build, not just maintain. Beyond 2.4, it's debatable as to further benefit.

I have had that problem...just focus on your protein first, then if you get full it's not a big deal. I have adjusted all my eating this way. In fact, right now I'm eating a salad with grilled chicken, and I'm picking off the chicken and eggs, then I'll eat the lettuce, etc. That's what I have to do to get my "numbers" in.

It's my "multi-course" meal!!

On target and loads of sun!

In the past 6 days I have seen my GP and 2 specialists. Today was the Urologist I had hoped would have resolved this almost two years ago.

In the past 2 months I have gained 16 pounds which fluctuates up and down with 6 pound swings. My morning weight has always been stable (+/- 2 lbs.) and since my diet is relatively constant this “Stricture” was the likely culprit.
Both the GP and the Endo felt it could be resolved with this procedure I requested long ago which has gradually progressed. It was only when I asked for a referral that he went ahead with it.
The weight loss slowed down over a year ago but the fast gain was just this year as the stricture became more apparent. The Urologist feels that it is likely not related but all my on line checking plus the other two doctors believe it is (slowed metabolism and holding fluids).
I'll get a call today for the surgery in the next 2 months. My wife was there as well and had a list of 20 questions. I was proud of her. She is my nurse, my coach and occasionally my nagging conscience.

He was still concerned that I am a bit young for this but agreed with my decision. As well I have always been the luckiest person I know.:D
There are several small risks associated with it and he asked how I felt about that and I gave him the thumbs up and lets get it done. I will be out of commision for two weeks of June.

The waiting room was again full and my appointment was missing this time but they said that was common with the new system and I got to see him within an hour. I had called last week to confirm the time/date so I can't see how entries would just disappear. Most of the problems are generated with the medical machine and how hospitals are changing. The guy beside me was there at 7:00 this morning and was still waiting for the doctor, after an unplanned Xray at 10:30. One older man asked for his health card back and left. Hopefully most of this is transition problems.

Now the positives. I feel great!!!
Bought a 3/4 wet suit yesterday at Costco for $33.00 and am looking for an inexpensive kayak. We are close to the Ottawa River here at work and a few of us are interested in lunch time runs across the river to Quebec. There is a sale in two weeks at the Ottawa Canoe club and I'm hoping to pick up one at under half price.
As well I rejoined the gym and work place baseball and volleyball have sign-ups next month.

Randy, best of luck in June!

My sister is a scuba diver and loves to kayak, but hasn't bought one yet. We live on a river, so you'd think there would be a kayak club or something, but not. She's always looking for other people who are interested.

No sun in Michigan right now. Maybe tomorrow or Friday. In fact, the director just made an announcement (unprescedented) that those who had a substantial trip home could leave if they were so inclined. The roads are "getting worse". It must be a doozy! I think it's a mixture of snow and rain and accumulating, along with poor visibility. I have a 4WD and a 4:15 appointment in a town farther down the line, so I'll probably stay. I might call and reschedule the appointment.

Ahhh, the understatement of the day! I just got home from the Y and I almost ditched the van twice. There are cars all over the road. I did a 360 in the middle of one road, and I was NOT going fast. I would say this is the worst storm of all winter. Nasty stuff.

So, I got home and started munching out of nervous tension. I'll be a NO for today, but at least I am alive, not injured, and the van is in one piece.

I'm hoping DH's class is cancelled. It is too nasty to drive in.

I'm so sorry (and jealous) of you guys and your terrible weather. We still officially have "snow" falling, but the second it hits the ground it melts...so we just have a sloppy mess.
Ms GQ, I'm glad your safe and sound...and have stopped the nervous eating!
Carol, pop on that 4WD and be SAFE!!

I have been doing some calculations to see if I can still save the day after my 1/2 carrot muffin. My various nutrition sources put the muffin at between 15-22ECC. It wasn't a GIAGANTIC one, but it wasn't tiny either. Fitday put it at 24.
I'm still okay for the day thanks to my extremely LC lunch and planned supper.

I can DO this...!! Supper will be hamburger with mayo/mustard, 1 clausen pickle and 3 romaine lettuce leaves. I put everything I ate today into FitDay and came up with P:147, C:43, but my calculations from looking at packaging brings me to 45, so as long as I stick to my PLAN, I'll have a ROCKIN day as Michelle told me (and everyone else) to have...

Wish me luck!!!

Did I tell you I can DO this???!!!!

No news here...it's blizzarding here in Milwaukee WI just like everywhere else. I just drove in treacherous roads from downtown Milwaukee to the store (probably 15 miles) to relieve Michael so he could go to a dental appt. The only good thing is I left work early thereby missing rush hour traffic.

When I FINALLY got there in one piece, I bit his head off and told him we were turning off the open sign as soon as he came back and going home. He has not had a customer all day....are we crazy or WHAT?????

Tried to help a woman in the parking lot who was stuck...she just had to get to her electrolysis  appt....again...are we crazy or WHAT???? She finally backed up enough to get to the road and drove off.

I guess the only good thing is that the snow is covering the plants that have managed to pop up a couple of weeks ago, only to be beaten down by frost. But I too worry about the trees...they can only take so much snow and the winds aren't helping.

We're sampling Blue Diamond Almond Smokehouse Nut Thins today and I'm munching on them as I type....very very tasty.

Obviously no sun today. I'm on plan so far, but not sure what I'll have for dinner. Probably some cube steak strips in a big salad with MacNut Oil as a dressing and Mary's Gone Crackers crackers broken up as croutons.

I think you all know I'm off dairy since January which is a bummer because I'm a whey protein shake person. Made it throuh a 2lb container of rice protein...but it's very gritty. We got a sample of Hemp Protein Powder (wow man....cool) from a distributor, so I'm been using that....it's looks like fertilizer and the texture is like ground flax meal and tastes kind of nutty. Fifteen carbs and 15 fibers... Still not sure if we'll order it to sell, but if you can't have dairy or eggs and don't like rice....hemp is the way to go.

See ya!!!!!!!

Ammy - How did you do? You did make it through your day, didn't you????

I kind of saved the day, too. I make a steak on the George Foreman, sliced it up an put it over a bed of lettuce with mushrooms. What I wanted to do after, but did not, and still have not, was to open a bag of M&M's. Oh, no. I have all your voices - did you all know you have voices?? - in my head saying, "No", "Going through carb withdrawl again is awful", "You can do it".

So, I'm listening to the voices. (That's a scarey thought!)

Mitra/Shadow - No on Protein and ECC, no on water, Yes on exercise, NOT A CHANCE on sun - just blizzard.

Good going, Kath! I AM in your head! Truthfully, I had the nervous munchies when I got home (in 4WD) too, and I ate an oatmeal cookie. So there. I didn't hear any of you yelling, though. :(

Good morning, Janet! Yes on protein, No on carbs, Yes on exercise (resistance, upper body) no on sunshine, yes on water.

Mary, I cancelled my knee appointment and beat feet home. The cars in the ditches and the e-units running around would have convinced me had I not already taken that step. What slop! Like driving on Crisco.

Have a good night!

Thank you for all the reports. I love reading these. They're not the perfectly planned days that appear in books: they're real people learning to do what they need to to stay healthy; figuring out how to fit everything in and where you can make compromises when you need to . Not to mention getting lots of practice at slipping up, then getting right back on plan again ;).

Didn't get in to post last night... did I post at all yesterday?

Stayed home from work sick and was totally out of it most of the day from a mental point of view. Took the "quick and easy" option for all meals and thus wasn't on plan. Also didn't get enough water which I really need now to help get over this mess.

So my numbers.......

Protein: 114 grams :(
ECCs: 136 grams :( :( Really copped out at Wendy's :o but at least it was just the one meal.
Water: 96ounces (plus the sweet (sugar) tea and refill at Wendy's)
Exercise/Sun: There was no sun to be had, much needed rain! And if coughing/sneezing counts as exercise I got that in spades.

In spite of all the bad food yesterday the scale showed no damage, so I'm very greatful for that!
