The secret of success is consistency of purpose.

Consistant lately?

Insanity is doing the same thing over and over and expecting different results.

If you over eat on carbs and tell yourself that ...it is only a little bit, or I'll do better tomorrow and get upset because the scale does not move...Don't expect the results to change until you do.

I can always tell if I have had too many carbs. I am hungry. The monkey lands on my back and drives me crazy. Blood sugar makes me feel like I am starving. I've learned to see the signs. It does not take much. If I eat protien every 2-3 hours.. no monkey.

Even a walk will normalize blood sugar if you have had too many carbs. That is why excersize is so important.

Max..today on MSN mens health is a great article on one legged squats. I really thought is was excellent. I am going to try some of them. Take a look and tell me what you think. I had no idea that leg extentions did not excersize the whole quad. I am switching to squats.

Everyone..have a good day. It's wonderful here. above normal temps . LAter rain...I'm going outside for cardio today.

What?....all the early risers sleeping in this morning?....I did....alarm set (in the off position  ) I got to sleep an extra 45 minutes this morning.

Big wigs from NY coming into the office here today...should be interesting. I love how people run around like crazy goons before big wigs arrive. We've been getting memo's all week on WHAT NOT TO DO....I think its hysterical. It's like a State Survey in the Nursing Home. Screw around for 9 months and then sweat WHEN they're going to walk in the door. Personally, I think if you always do it the way it's supposed to be done, then there shouldn't be anything to worry about....but I'm only a worker ant....what do I know.

I guess sometimes we have the same attitude with losing....Figuring....I can eat all this now and then I'll work at it later....We've talked before about procrastination. It's weird because I'm not a procrastinator much at work, but in my off time :paranoid: .......Maybe because when I'm off work, there is so much for me to do, I have a tendency to be overwhelmed at times and need to find a little breathing room. I told Mr. Ohio the other night....one of the reasons I love talking to him is he has the ability to calm my chaotic life....Hey, whatever works.....It's Tuesday and I'll be in OHIO tonight :D

5 days left in March (you gotta get through today too). It will be a plus side month (I didn't say plus size). I'm looking forward to April though. Lots going on in April.....Dr. Foti.....Mr. OHIO.....

Hope you all have a great day.
Hugs to you Stephie, I hope the CT report is favorable.

Wow Hawk...great minds...I was writing while you were posting...Have a wonderful day.....

Wow, great thoughts, today, Hawk.

For years I did the same thing over and over again expecting different results.

I love your quote; might adopt it in my signature with credit to you, of course.

I agree with you about carbs, hunger, exercise. I can always tell when I am over, also, by my hunger starting.

I am meeting with the trainer at the hospital fitness center gym this afternoon as she is designing a personal weight program for me! :D
I am sooo excited. I already see results in my arms just using a few of the things she worked with me on last week!
I know I am a rank beginner, but I am looking forward to being shapely again.
Then when I have to run to the OR with equipement, I will have the body strength as well as the cardio to move it.

Rainy here, great day to be indoors.

<<Stephie>> hope for good news from the CT on your Dad.

Hawk - You nailed it today, at least for me. I have been struggling with this whole issue. Actually, I've been writing about it in my journal.

Because of this, I've decided to go on a strict two week induction, why? Discipline. Commitment. A start over. It starts today.

Scale said I was down 4.5 lbs since February 1st. At least it is something.

Thanks for the motivation.

Hello Hawk, Michelle, Claudette :).

Thanks for sharing your thoughts to get us started today.

I'm enjoying some beautiful spring weather today - went for a walk in the park (http://www.danam.co.uk/photos/The%20Park%20in%20Spring/content/index.html) to celebrate it :). Now I'm going to get a cup of coffee and play with my photo software.

GOOD MORNING!

I did Bike Intervals. It is amazing how twenty minutes of hard work and big music can just pump you for hours. On the playlist today:
GnR - Sweet Child of Mine
Van Halen - Panama
Pink Floyd - Young Lust
Zwan - Settle Down (if you don't know, Zwan is the guy from Smashing Pumpkins' newer project, sound like the Pumpkins, only if they had been formed in 1977 and their only influence was Boston's first albm and Sgt. Peppers)

Changed my Interval pattern, which was interesting. 30 second sprints, 60 second rests, as many as I could fit before the timer hit 16:00.

So, I read a quote today, in my gmail, lemme see if I can find it. It's gone. Anyrate, was something along the lines of consistency being good, but not worth becoming a slave to. And I'm gonna suggest that discipline and consistency are only as good as they fit into your life. Ultimately, you can't do just one thing and expect it to fix only one thing. It's what the environmentalists would call an ecology solution, you do something and it has effects you couldn't see. And you do a lot of things to fix complicated problems. I would suggest that weight loss and health reclamation are complicated problems. And they take ecology solutions. And you shouldn't be surprised how far reaching the changes might be. When I notice that I have changed something that I have been doing for a long time, naturally, and in rhythm, I am still surprised, but in a good way.

Any rate, I ramble. Later today, we can start the Grill Thread. I'm thinking in PP Kitchen? Any thoughts on location would be welcomed.

Rock On!

Whoops, Lyrics. From todays biking music.

Whatever I can do,
I will
'Cause I'm good like that
For seven years,
Seven days,
And seven hours
I took my chances, yeah
Whatever I can do,
I will
'Cause I want to, and
What I want I get

We're all good like that, right? Take your chances, and do what you can do. You can get what you want.

Rock on!

Beautiful walking spot, Mitra !! Love the photos.

Hawk, your opening statement was straight on target--to the point--and very clear. We just sometimes expect to much with out ever actually doing what it takes to get to our goal. Good job.

Going to town today with dd and probably not much else on the agenda, I think I over did it -- to much twisting and pulling I think) Anyway, I'll do better today.

Missy, I've been meaning to tell you how great you are doing with the losses. Way to go, gal.

Ms GQ I am so happy for you on your renewal of commitment to this woe. (That Hawk can sure inspire, can't she !) Wishing you all the best.

Well, I'm out of here for now, will check in later. Have a wonderful day.

http://bestsmileys.com/lol/1.gif lol....THANKS everyone for the congrats on the loses I'm having....lol :o BUT...well, as HAPPY as I am about the....REMEMBER GANG..these are the "cheater" lbs lost! THESE are the ones they CUT OFF!!!! lol I'm DUE SEVEN of them!!! lol :D So...don't think it's soley DUE to my effort!!! lol I PAID for them!!!..and I'm EVER SO PLEASED to enjoy them coming off! lol....but still, it's all DUE to recovery.

When I HIT 338...then I'll be BACK and will be the ones I TRUELY worked for. lol BUT....I'll take it whatever way I can get it!!! I just don't want you guys to think I'm doing something so magical! LOL  :D

So...THANK YOU. But, well. I've cheated getting them! lol and it is fun! lol

Hawk!....man, when I'm consistant...I'm golden....but when I take "leave" I fully intend on enjoying myself, and DO. That's how I make it work for me. Right, wrong? Well....I seem to...after looking back since October, managed to lose...so, I'd say YES it is working for me. I'm pleased. I'm motivated, and my head is in the game. SUCCESS is mine to be had...and how I go about achieving it is for me to figure out and DO...and being consistant has been a cornerstone.

Compared to other family memebers who have lost weight more quickly....but quit, and regained...I'd MUCH rather just slowly, and CONSISTANTLY stick "with the plan" then to watch what they did. For that I am extremely proud of my efforts..even if I've had some blips now and again. I've learned from those too.

Michelle, it's been for me kind of like your work situation...I've got such an overwhelming task to lose SO MUCH weight...that if I just keep on plugging along at it, I will get further, faster, then to go at it expecting fast results to make up for what I haven't been doing all along!!! My sister and BIL will again "panic" diet months prior to my nephews wedding and they will lose quickly, look nice...and then let it all slide. Good for them...it just doesn't happen that way for me....but I'm also looking better and fixing my over all health. Not only am I...to borrow our Max's quote of a quote "In it to Win it"...but I'm winning it for my longevity. It's not just for a point in time, but for my lifetime.

This group is SUCH an awesome group!!! I am amazed DAILY at my fellow teammates!!! I think that every single day!

Morning all,

Beautiful pictures Mitra!

Today will be a plan day in spite of myself. My new cat isn't sleeping through the night which means we're not sleeping through the night. Result was didn't roll out of bed in time to pack lunch, get extra water and such. I ate a protein bar on my way to work and I'll have to go out for lunch. I guess it is back to the grocery store that opened up a couple blocks from the library. What did I do before that place opened?

It is a beautiful day and warm. so why is everyone in the Computer Center? Man, I wouldn't be here if I didn't have to be. But, everyone else wants to be here.

I'll check in later.

Thanks to Hawks pep talk on consistency, day 1 of induction is going well.

I knew I couldn't make it to the Y today, so I packed up the oldest two kiddos while the baby slept - with Dad at home studying -- and went for a 2 mile walk! Up and down my hilly road, pushing close to 70 lbs of weight. We even fed the horses at the end of the road. (My legs are feeling it though, probably from the leg workout yesterday at the Y.)

Where are these pictures of Mitra's? I'd love to see beautiful pictures. : )

Janet, I've said it before and I'll say it again: You have an eye. Lovely photos. I found that Ctein book on Amazon and sent for it, BTW.

So far, so good today. I found, at the health food store, a crunchy snack made out of flax seed and sesame seed and glued together with some organic sticky stuff. If it wasn't a little salty with tamari, I wouldn't eat it, but it does crunch. Best had with a cup of hot tea or something to remove the residue from tongue and teeth. Oh, well, you never know until you've tried. A whole 6x4" slab is 3 ecc, so as much as I eat won't even register!

Missy, slow weight loss stays off much longer, according to any doctor I've ever discussed it with. You just keep on keepin' on!

Thundering outside! I cooked up several days worth of grilled meats so I can just grab one when I need a meal. Just in time, because it's going to rain tonight for sure.

Michelle, have a great night with Mr. Ohio! ;) Sounds exciting!

Altering photos as an art form is okay. Passing them off as an original photograph is not. At least, that's my take. One of my instructors was adamant about setting up the shot and taking it right the first time. He won awards as a nature photographer. Another one is a gifted photoshop artist and takes pride in removing distracting objects that might clutter up the subject. His forte was industrial subjects and he was meticulous. I can't possibly make judgements. I'm still a work in progress. :)

The DW & I have had this conversation. She, with her BSA, working in photo, me with my BS & Work experience in Television.

If you look back on the history of the medium, first photography wasn't accepted as an art. Then you had some folks who did in camera and in developing tricks to make their photos more like impressionist paintings. And the movement got some credence. As the technology improved and become more familiar, I think society as a whole got a better appreciation for the difference between a great photo and a bad one. But it's been something over 100 years coming. And most photo exhibits are still in the basement or the hallway of major galleries.

So, retouching and photoshop. It's just another medium. And ultimately, is medium and techniques that important or is it content? I'm a content person. Course, I marvel over what can be put on moving film these days, both with effects and more ingenious use of camera technology. But, with movies, ultimately content is more important that how they got the content. But, expect the photoshop people to have another 10-20 years of fight to be accepted as art, and some of the process driven people never will accept them.

Right, and I've had that conversation with an artist who paints in tempera. It's a matter that will never be resolved. Heavens, photographers have always touched up photos! What's the difference how much you touch it up or if you use a chemical darkroom or a digital darkroom? I'm just happy I can lighten up the bad photos I took and salvage them. I cloned the annoying pink bird out of the wedding cake-cutting pics that took the eye away from the bride and groom. That's business.

In Popular Photo Magazine, a gentleman placed in a contest with a picture of MY pier. It's hard to get a good sky with the number of grey days we have on the lakeshore, so he put in a gorgeous stormy sky and the judges liked it. I was ticked! Even if he hadn't mentioned the added sky, I would have known it because the light was wrong for MY pier. He was from somewhere else, so it was all the same to him.

I landed in third place with one of my pier pictures in a local contest because the same guy won first and second. My husband was mumbling "Photoshop", but I found out in talking to the photographer that he laid in wait for the weather and light conditions to be just perfect, used an old film camera with the proper exposure and came up with those magnificent photos. He didn't even own a computer. Now, THAT's a photographer! I couldn't even be annoyed because he had done a lifetime of hard work to get that good. My photo was a lucky sunset. No problem.

Exactly. It's about the image, not the process. This is the view of my wife's professors in art school. The process is unimportant. The outcome, the work matters. Course, they are "content purists." "Technical purists" will take the approach that the limitations of what's real add value to something through process.

I'm a process person at work. It's part of being an MBA, at least that's what the HR lady that I hate tells me. But, for the art, I want a good image. I'll take a good story behind the image, but only if the image compells it.

I agree in theory that if you're just making a picture for its own sake (not putting it forward as a "true record," then it shouldn't matter how you get there, but I don't remove telegraph wires from my photos, though I have been known to clear up the odd bit of litter, and I do remove spots from water drops on the lens &c. It gives me more satisfaction to get the composition, exposure &c right in the camera than it does to fix it later on the computer - I do make those adjustments on the computer, but I just feel happier if I don't have to. That may not make any sort of sense at all, but I'm only taking pictures for my own pleasure, so it doesn't need to make sense. Max can probably do an entire personality profile based on that information ;).

Besides, who's got time to sit and monkey with each and every photo to get it right? Before digital editing software, I would just toss the bad ones. Now, I know I can probably save them so I have to try. They say that working in medium or large format (film) is a slower process, forcing the shooter to take time to compose correctly and measure exposure correctly. You'd take fewer photos, but they'd be quality. Instead of spending the time behind the lens, you spend it at the computer. What do you gain?

Sorry for dragging everybody off-topic! You can tell what my favorite subjects are, can't you? :o
